Chapter 2: Opening Ceremony Dinner

All sweat-drop as the two leave, but it is Marth who breaks the silence.

"Well, we'd better get to the Main Office for our packets. We don't want to be late to any of our classes tomorrow, right?" Roy groans, his stomach growling loudly.

"Geez, Marth, can't we get some food first? I'm starving!" the other boy gives him a death glare, but Blair saves him.

"I know where they're having the opening ceremony dinner, I could take you there." Seeing the pleading look in his eyes, she takes his hand and leads him out of the auditorium.

"She'll take care of him, don't worry. I know and trust my sister." This has both boys' jaws drop. "Um, Kalian, why don't you show Marth the way to the Main Office?" the once sad-faced girl perks up at this. She practically drags the blue-haired and -eyed boy away in a different direction than Blair had taken Roy. This leaves Ike and Rey almost all alone in the auditorium.

"Oi, get outta here you two! The ceremony dinner is gonna start soon!" one of the staff members yells at them. They nod and as they leave, a guy in the shadows of the doors laughs evilly and softly. "They'll never have their happy ending. Not as long as I am around heheh."

With Roy and Blair-

"Wow! I never thought I'd see so much food in one place!" Roy says, looking all around at the food tables. "I don't even know where to start!" at the giggling next to him, he turns to the girl named Blair. "Oh, I am Roy Gawain, by the way."

"I know Ashley told you my name, so let's skip the intros, shall we? What is your favorite kind of food?"

"Sushi, I really love sushi!" it takes him less than a second to answer, and she takes him to the sushi table. "Wow! All kinds of sushi! Score, I totally scored! Thanks, Blair." He flashes her one of his big, white toothy smiles. She blushes severely, but piles her plate with some spicy sushi, some sweet sushi and grabs a Mountain Dew bottle. They sit at an empty table, he tells her about himself, and she does the same.

With Marth and Kalian-

At the Main Office, the doors are locked. "Damn, that means the staff members are at the dinner, right?" Marth then realizes he cussed before a lady. "Forgive me for cussing, Kalian." She just giggles. "What?"

"You don't have to apologize for cussing in front of me, Marth. My older brother and father cussed around me a lot, and severely, so I am used to it. Shall we go to the Café to get some food?" her face saddens when she mentions her family, but she quickly composes herself and they walk to the Café. On the way, they pass Roy and Blair at their table. Both are talking about something that makes her friend laugh. I wish I could be that happy…Kalian mentally shakes the sad thought away, and continues to follow Marth to one of the food tables. "How did you know that Chinese fried rice is my favorite food?" she asks as they each take a plate.

"I love any kind of fried rice, and you were looking at the table when we came in." he says nonchalantly as he piles beef fried rice on his plate. She does the same after a minute of awkwardness. Marth is pretty cool, and cute. Wait! Where did that come from? Kalian blushes at her thoughts, but he doesn't notice.

With Ike and Rey-

They walk into the Café to find Roy, Blair, Marth and Kalian at the same table eating and talking with each other. And Kalian seems happy around them. This shocks Rey, who knows of Kalian's past and what her father's and brother's deaths nearly did to her. She's always so sad and shy, but not around Marth…I wonder why.

"Rey, are you gonna get a plate or what?" Ike calls out to her, already piling his plate with shell-shaped pasta in a creamy cheese sauce. She immediately fills her plate up with the shell-shaped pasta. They both grab a Mountain Dew Voltage bottle, then go to sit with their friends. But all the seats are taken at the small table; so they have to find another one.

And the only one left open was in the back corner. A faint shadow appears in front of it; Rey and Ike can hardly make it out. "Yes, come to this table…no one else's gonna take it for themselves." the shadow whispers softly. With Rey's acute hearing, she heard every word coming from the shadow and knew who the shadow was.

"Let's sit outside. The view's better out there." She walks to the doors that lead outside. Ike follows her, not knowing why she wanted to be outside. Once on the other side of the doors, she lets out the breath she'd been holding, walks to some tree stumps and sits down on one. Ike follows suit, but she doesn't start eating. Why is he here? He can't still be here, he graduated two years ago! This thought brings memories she buried deep close to the surface of her mind.

"Rey, your food's gonna get cold." This snaps her back to reality. "You OK? You seem a little, well, pale." she starts eating her food, and Ike waits a moment before doing the same.

"Thanks for your concern, Ike. But I'm fine. I haven't eaten since the airplane ride from Kanto. I guess I was hungry." She laughs at her empty plate. He does the same. She is unlike any girl I've ever met. I wonder if she'll be in any of my classes. I hope so; she's fun to be around. Ike thinks this as his hand is somehow finding its way to hers. When it is in his, they both blush. And he tries to pull away, but she clasps it with hers. The intercom comes on right then.

"Attention all students, it is time for everyone to go to the Main Office to collect your packets. All new students must report to their assigned counselor after receiving their packets." The intercom then clicks off. They look at their hands and she lets go first.

"We'd better get going." She gathers her plate and bottle and goes back in with Ike following close behind her. Once they had put their food trash in the right places, they join up with Marth, Roy, Blair and Kalian and head to the Main Office. Once there, they see six long lines of students just before the Main Office doors. "Well, let's get in line." Rey says as she and the other girls walk to the first-year-girl's line. The other three follow suit after a few seconds, going to the first-year-boy's line.
