Chapter Two: Evie's reawakening hallucination or whatever you want to call it
Evie first noticed the thick fog rolling out, she was in the clearing with the odd tree from earlier, and nothing else. She was confused beyond belief again, she didn't know how exactly she got to be where she was now. Evie looked around, there was nothing but thick fog surrounding her and the tree together, like a suffocating cage. Evie looked back at the tree and it began glowing, she felt a siege of anxiety fall over her body. Her extremities were shaking and her knees were buckling, her body was betraying her.
"You must forgive Sesshomaru, he doesn't know what's going on," called a beautiful yet haunting disembodied male voice from behind Evie. She jumped and gasped then turned around brusquely to see who had spoke to her. She stumble back a little in fright when she viewed him, he was like the other, but different. Similar yet not. This one was older, with his hair pulled back and jagged markings on his face, but he had the same golden eyes, armor and fluffy scarf thing. He had a look in his eyes, they had kindness and love in them which made Evie relax a little but she was still going to be very cautious, it could be a trap. He didn't seem to be hostile and violent like the first one. "I guess you don't know what's going on either." He said smiling at her, "it's been a long time since I've seen her face."
He took a couple steps toward her and Evie backed up quickly, she wasn't taking any chances. "It's alright, I want to help you." He held out his hand gesturing that she take it. Evie was very hesitant, she didn't know if she could trust him, and she was also off put by the fact that she was able to understand someone who clearly spoke Japanese since he looked like a feudal Japanese lord or warrior.
"There's nothing to be scared of, I know how you must be feeling." He spoke again after a while of silence. Evie raised a brow in disbelief. "You are very precious to me, and you will be to him" She knew he was talking about the man who was choking her to death, Sesshomaru. For all she knew this place was death itself.
"I don't think so." Evie said defiantly crossing her arms. "You must have me confused with someone else, or I'm dreaming."
The Lord laughed slightly, "you know, only one of those are true, and not the one you hope." He suddenly disappeared, then reappeared right in front of her. "Unfortunately this situation is entirely out of your control for the time being. You're both ready for the obstacles that you will face but whether or not you are successful will depend on your willingness to expect what I say to you."
"You seem like a reasonable life being." Evie said backing up so she could get out of the close contact bubble. "why would a Swedish girl from America have any sort of destiny here in wherever this place is?"
"Appearances are just skin deep," answered the Lord smirking slightly. He motion toward something behind her and Evie turned her head to look. What she saw terrified her very being. The tree had vanished and in its place was a looking glass. Evie stared at a woman, who had her face. She had long straight black hair and deep chocolate brown eyes, she was wearing a multitude of robes like she was a princess. What terrified Evie so much was that when she shifted her stance, the woman in the looking glass moved with her instantly, like Evie was viewing herself in the mirror. "In your terms, it's like phenotypes and genotypes, what's expressed on the inside isn't necessarily what's manifested on the outside."
"That's very reasonable…" Evie trailed off as the woman in the mirror spoke her words with her. "But that doesn't explain the cultural barrier... how-"
"The world doesn't work in the terms of the time you were born in, the earth has no barriers and people are as one." Evie didn't like it when someone could be cleverer and smarter than her. What was bothering her now was the fact that he was making sense, in some sort of weird way. But there was a question the Evie was wanting to ask. She wasn't sure if it was appropriate.
"What was he saying?" Evie asked finally getting the courage to prod into the subject. "What was… Sesshomaru saying while he was trying to strangle me?" She looked back at him and saw the hurt in his eyes. A shiver of fear ran up Evie's spine, she didn't understand his expression. "Never mind…." She trailed off looking ashamed, but she didn't know why she felt that way.
"No… you will hear it anyway but I don't want to be the one to say it." He said looking down in anguish, "don't let him scare you though. You'll be safe I promise." he uncharacteristically grinned while stepping and taking her right wrist in both his hands. Evie felt more disheartened than before, a bad feeling was sinking down into her stomach like a bowling ball slamming the ground. He was talking like she was going to return to Sesshomaru, she was sure that this was all a hallucination but it also had a connection to what just happened on her last day in Japan. She sighed and he sensed her stress. "Don't worry, Sesshomaru will warm up to you, but at first he will be hostile because of a grudge against humans, especially you but you will be fine, you are a strong person, the only person who can do this."
"What exactly am I going to do?" Evie snapped in annoyance pulling her hand from his grip, she was exhausted and angry now. She looked down and ran her fingers through her hair, then suddenly the Lord embraced her body tightly. She didn't move because he had an influence on her body in this...dimension. He was very warm and that was a nice change to all the cold Evie was exposed to over her long day. She closed her eyes and relaxed into his strong and supportive body.
Everything turned gray and when Evie came to she was staring at the tree again. She suddenly regretted closing her eyes. The Lord was now gone and she looked around to see if there was anyone around. The world was in this misty gray color and everything outside the vicinity of the tree was blurry to her vision. Evie didn't know what she was about to see but suddenly something was making noise through the brush. Evie suddenly figured out that she was having an out of body experience when she watched herself run into the clearing and stop to gaze at the tree, her expression bewildered, then she turned to look back. In a blink of an eye Evie saw Sesshomaru appear and slam her into the tree with great force, Evie saw herself start to bleed from her head, mouth, and her neck where he tore her flesh with his claws. Evie saw the desperation in her face and the lust for blood in Sesshomaru's eyes as his gripped tightened around her neck.
"Impudent woman, why do you have her face?! Why wont you die?!" He screamed at her then again slammed her into the tree and Evie witnessed more blood coming from her body running down his arm and dripping onto the earth by the tree roots. "Why do you have her face?! Tell me know why do you have her face" He screamed now becoming more and more impatient. Evie saw the pure lust for her death in his eyes. She heard herself scream back at him but she couldn't understand herself even though she remembered what she said. "Why won't you die?!" He roared this time, slamming her repeatedly against the tree.
Evie stood there, numb and staring at herself struggle against this strong opponent. Whether she could or couldn't move wasn't her problem, she was now wondering why she was witnessing herself dying in front of her own eyes. What was the point of having this experience if she was just going to die? Evie remembered what it felt like to have his cold fingers curled around her neck, strangling her till he witnessed the soul leaving her eyes as she died in his hands. But then she remembered what happened before that, Evie then saw herself reach out for the twitching sword Sesshomaru possessed. The sword was connected to her existence here, it was once the Lord's sword. It was made to protect her and she was thankful to see the wind and have her consciousness faded into the darkness again.
