Kidnapped! By Pirates!

A/N: I've been reading a lot of James/Lily AU stories lately, and I noticed that I have not yet come across a Pirate story that was finished, and that made me feel guilty, and determined that I would not do the same thing. Plus I really enjoyed writing this, that – for once in my life – I'm gonna get another chapter on straight away, so the next one is (hopefully!) not as long a wait for y'all out there.
I've got to say, though, that this would've been finished sooner, if it were not for Veronica Roth's Divergent Series. I'm HOOKED. If you've never read them, go buy it. And then read it. The best place to buy it – if you're English, or live in England – is The Works. You can get all 3 books for £9.99, less than it would be for 1 if you went to W.H. Smiths or Waterstones. Just a handy hint for all you avid readers out there.
Oh, and while we're on the subject of Pirate Stories, can anyone recommend a good James/Lily AU? I'm really into them at the moment, but I can't seem to find anymore, so suggestions would be appreciated!
Disclaimer: I didn't even come up with the idea (thanks DancingQueen555!), so it's safe to say I'm a tad pathetic – it's being worked on, trust me.
Lily woke to a blinding light, and a splitting headache. Fumbling blindly for the bell to ring Julianne, she found only a hard, wooden floor, course yet spotlessly clean. Blinking to focus her vision, she surveyed her surroundings. Taking in what they were, she opened her mouth to scream. That was when her vision went black.
'Cap'n, here's the hostage' Lily could hear voices that sounded vaguely familiar. She opened her eyes. Searching hazel eyes framed by wire rimmed spectacles met hers. They then swooped downwards, reviewing the rest of her. 'Pretty lil' thing, ain't she?'
Lily turned her head to view the man who was talking. He was tall, around 6'1", with jet black curls that framed his face perfectly. He had stormy grey eyes, that seemed to mock her, even from across the room. He had a cocky aura about him, and Lily wasn't sure she liked this man. He was the one who had pulled her from the cupboard, rather roughly as well.
'Don't antagonise the hostage, Sirius' Lily hadn't realised there was a third man in the room. He pushed himself off the wall in the corner, and moved away from the shadows, allowing Lily to view him properly. He had sandy brown hair, with green eyes, not as intense as her emerald ones, but gentler, like grass, almost. He spoke with a more gentle voice than 'Sirius', and she recognised him as the second man who had come to get her.
'But Moony! It's fun' Sirius whined. Lily found herself with a strange desire to mock this man, and before she knew it, words were spouting out of her mouth.
'Moony? What kind of a nick-name is that?' she said before she could stop it 'Come up with that one yourself did you?'
'Hey! I will have you know that I put a lot of time and effort into thinking up that name' he replied, indignantly.
'I wonder at you having to put a lot of time and effort into thinking at all'
'This is not fair'
'Apparently not'
'James, make her be quiet!'
'Oh yes, go run to Mummy for help!'
'I'm not his mother' a new voice came into the argument.
'I should certainly hope not. Cross-dressing is really not an attractive hobby, in my opinion'
'Look, lass' began Sirius again 'when you are in Rome, you do as Rome does'
'How fortunate, is it not, then, that we are not in Rome'
'But you're aboard The Four Marauders, and-'
'Ohh, another clever name. Do spill – did you come up with this one yourself, or did mummy here think of it for you?'
'I'm not his mother' the voice entered the conversation again, this time a little more forcefully.
'Well who might you be, then, dear sir – or should I call you that? Would it be more fitting, perhaps to-'
'-I'm the Captain of this ship.'
Lily froze in her tracks. It then dawned on her who had just borne her impertinence. Sirius began to smirk. She could feel her temper rising again, but fear choked it down. She looked at the man who had just spoken. He was taller than Sirius, by a few inches maybe, although his wild hair may make up a couple more. The hair was jet black and unruly to the point of distraction. He was handsome, his hazel eyes deep behind his glasses, and there was just a hint of stubble on his face. He was staring right at her. She knew she had just signed her death sentence. This man could shoot her on the spot, and not feel a thing about it.
'James' the gentle voice of 'Moony' cut into the situation 'It will soon be sunset. You had better assign rounds, and take care of the hostage' James nodded, and – looking her up and down once more – strode to the door. His hand on the doorknob, he paused. 'Sirius, take the hostage down to my cabin.' He made to leave, as a low chuckle filled the room.
'Taken a fancy to this one, eh Prongs?' the gruff voice of Sirius drawled behind her. She could feel her face heating up to a deep red, and she cursed her complexion. The Captain, however, showed no signs of embarrassment, only mild irritation. 'On second thoughts, Remus, would you?' The sandy-haired man nodded, and James paused for another second to send a glare at Sirius, before opening the door and walking briskly out the room.
'I guess you get to do the honours then, Moony' Sirius said. The sandy-haired man made no comment, but gestured for Sirius to walk out the door. 'Ok, I know when I'm not wanted.' He turned to Lily. 'Charmed, Ms Evans' he mocked her.
'Shame I can't say the same to you' she bit back. It wasn't her best retort, but it would do for short notice. Sirius merely grinned, before leaving the room.
Remus made his way over to her, and offered her a hand up from her chair.
'At least someone around here has some manners' she said 'Thank you'
Remus smiled gently 'Don't mind James and Sirius, Ms Evans. They are harmless really.'
'Oh I'm sure'
He laughed, before offering her his arm, which she accepted, and they left the room together. 'Well, to you they are'
'It's only because of the money my father will pay you' she snapped.
'Well, yes' he admitted 'but Sirius was right'
'Really? Excuse me while I faint'
'You've really got it in for him, haven't you?'
'Cocky little-'
'Ok, I get it. He's not bad, you know.'
'No, he's just a pirate trying to save the world from justice'
'Do you have to mock everything?'
'It's one of my better traits'
Remus smiled, despite himself. 'But it is true, you know'
'That I mock everything?'
'No, that Sirius was right. James has taken a fancy to you'
'Excuse me? And I thought you had manners!'
'No, not in that way! I just mean to say that, if he hadn't taken a fancy to you, then we'd be lugging your body over the side of the ship by now for that lovely display of wit back there'
'No, it's the money that saved me'
'You really think so?'
'Of course'
A comfortable silence settled over the two, Remus staring off the ship into the distance with a pensive look resting upon his features.
'What's wrong?' Lily caught the look on his face.
'Nothing' he turned to smile at her 'I'm just interested in how all of this will turn out'
'What do you mean?'
'Between you and-'
'Don't you dare say Sirius' Lily cut him off
'On the contrary Ms Evans, I was going to suggest James. You're quite lucky, you know'
Lily raised an eyebrow at him.
'No really – as lucky as you can get with the whole kidnapping measure'
'Because being kidnapped by a surly Captain, a cocky first-mate, and a gentleman who acts like he belongs more in a ballroom than on a pirate ship has been my life-long dream'
'Seriously Ms Evans, you were fortunate it was James who got you first. He actually did you a favour'
'If he's so interested in my well-being, next time, I do suggest he telegrams beforehand? That way my father may actually reward him, rather than wish to end his life prematurely'
Remus ignored the comment, and carried on 'He caught you before anyone else did. The Snakes were planning to do the very same thing, only the night after we caught you'
'The Snakes?'
'Do excuse my slang – The Snakes is a nickname for Slytherin Pirates'
'Slytherin Pirates'
'Yes. Each Pirate ship has their own morals. Pirates with similar morals are collectively called a similar thing'
'Pirates don't have morals'
Remus gave a low chuckle 'I can attest to that' he muttered.
'But you said 'morals'?'
'What I merely meant by that is their views on others who are from different places. It also refers to their, well; I suppose you could call them 'laws' or 'rules' but basically how they deal with different situations, and their main characteristics. You see those colours up there, next to the Jolly Roger?'
Lily blinked as she was pulled through a door onto the deck. Squinting to see in the broad daylight she had just been introduced to, she cast her eyes upwards to note the red and gold proudly on display. 'Red and gold?' She turned to Remus for an explanation.
'That means we're Gryffindor Pirates. Typically, we value courage and bravery, but we can be a bit proud sometimes.'
'So there's two different types of pirate – Gryffindor and Slytherin?'
'Correction – there are four: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin'
'And all have their different morals and colours?'
'Correct, Ms Evans-'
'Do call me Lily; Ms Evans is quite tiresome'
'Correct, then Lily. Hufflepuffs encourage, er, well, to be honest, they are the Pirates that fit nowhere else. Their colours are gold and black. Then there are Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw Pirates pull off the most well engineered of all raids. They value knowledge, and their colours are blue and black'
'And wasn't it these Ravenclaws whom you said were to kidnap me if you hadn't already?'
'Nay Ms Evans, that was the Slytherins'
'Oh, yes, I forgot'
'Slytherins you have to watch out for. They are the meanest, cunning-est Pirates, who derive sadistic pleasure as a side to pillaging. You would have not been treated this way were you a Slytherin Prisoner'
Silence encompassed the two again, as Remus opened a door on the opposite side of the ship. Then, helping her through a trapdoor, Lily remembered he had not told her what colour the Slytherins' were. She inquired.
'Green and Silver, Ms Evans, and often called The Snakes, especially on this ship'
'Why The Snakes?'
'Their characteristics are generally referred to as snake like. All of the different types have an animal. We Gryffindors are associated with the Lion.'
'And the Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws?'
'Hufflepuff a Badger, Ravenclaw an eagle'
'Not a raven?'
'A common mistake, alas no'
'You do know a great deal, sir'
'I try' were his words, as he gestured to the door in front of him. 'This is the captain's quarters. I suggest you stay in here until James comes for you'.
Lily looked at the heavy wooden door in front of her, as the easiness with she had felt whilst conversing with Remus slowly drained from her bones.
'Remus!' she called. He turned around to face her once again, as he had begun to walk away, and looked expectantly.
'Why does the Captain, er, want me to, er, you know… er-'
'Stay in the same room as him?'
Lily nodded, her cheeks now tinged pink.
'He is only protecting you, Lily. James will not hurt you, I give my word'
Lily looked at him, unsure of whether to believe him or not.
'Think – What would happen if you are with the men, below deck, or even on your own?'
Realisation hit her, and Lily shivered to think what could happen, what Remus was suggesting.
'I didn't realise. I guess the men don't experience much female company' she tried to joke weakly, before tentatively touching the door handle to the captain's quarters.
'Just one piece of advice: You do not want James as your enemy, Lily. He is not bad, although he may come across course, and cruel. He truly cares for the well-being of those on his ship. That includes you. You are almost fortunate he cares for you to the extent he does.' Remus' voice trailed off, leaving the words to sink in. Realising the implications of the final comment, her brow furrowed, and she turned around to question him. 'Remus' she broke off, seeing that he had left her alone. She turned once again to face the door. It looked daunting in the dim light of the candles placed along the hallway. Steeling herself, she turned the doorknob, and stepped inside, shutting the door behind her. It was then she heard a shout from above her, on the deck. She turned back to the door.
On second thoughts, perhaps it'd be better if she locked it.
A/N: Did I manage to explain the whole houses/Pirates thing ok? Did it just confuse people? Do you people think it works ok? I didn't know whether to cut it out, but it made most of the conversation between Lily and Remus, so in it stayed.
Do drop a review, if you would. They are much appreciated!
Hoping y'all aren't too confused,
