(Quick Author's Note here: I just wanted to say thanks to cso for the review on the first chapter. I'm not that great at describing details, or characters. But I'll keep it in mind for the third one. Oh, yes, this and the sequel are all prewritten, so I can't really make any changes. Anyways, enjoy!)

Chapter 2: Awaking From a Deep Sleep

Beep, beep, beep; an alarm clock was going off.

Amber stirred from her sleep.

"*sigh* Monday." Amber groaned

She reached over to her bedside table to turn it off, but couldn't find it. She eventually opened her eyes to see that this was not her room. Her eyes shot open once she realized this and sat up in bed.

Amber looked around, the room she was in looked to be a really cheap excuse for a motel room. Amber got up and out of bed, when she stood up she almost fell back over. Amber looked down at her feet and saw that she was wearing some strange white high-heeled boots. After a bit, Amber finally got used to them being on her feet and decided she should look around the motel room. There was a chair with a table on the other side of the bed, on the table was the alarm clock, she made her way over they to turn it off, but couldn't find the of switch, so she decided that throwing it against the ground and smashing it was the best way for it to stop.

Once the alarm clock went quite Amber could continue looking around the room, on the wall next to the bed was a painting of a cabin beside a lake with the moon shining, there was the bed that she was sleeping in, she guessed for a long time because you could see an indent on where she was sleeping forever in the bed.

There was a T.V that had the words "We are experiencing technical difficulties, please stand by"

Well, at least the T.V knew what was going on here. There was another table with a chair and a mini-fridge was next to it, Amber opened it to find a piece of moldy cake. Amber quickly closed the door.

Amber looked around the rest of the room, she saw two doors, one led outside of this room and the other led to a small room, she walked towards the door to get out of there, but realized that there was no handle, so, she tried the other door, which had a handle, and it opened to a bathroom that had seen better days, the light refused to turn on, she walked in and saw cockroaches crawling backing to the holes, she also swore she saw a rat scurry down the toilet's water drain. Amber walked out of the bathrooms and closed it.

Just then there was a knock at the door and a very familiar voice.

"Hello? Is…is anyone alive in there?" asked Wheatley.

Amber went to answer the door but it opened by itself.

"AH! You look terri- looking good actually," said Wheatley.

"Hey IDS," Amber said with a smile.

"IDS? How do you- wait, Amber?" Wheatley asked.

"The One and only," replied Amber.

"You're, alive? Oh for godsa- I thought you died 10 years ago!" Wheatley said as he slid into the room on his management rail.

"Wait, 10 years ago? I mean, yeah, I oversleep sometimes, but that's a little long," Amber asked, "What happened?"

"Well, you passed out from lack of breathing, though I thought you were dead, you were then brought to this motel room which has seen better days," Wheatley said as he looked around, "anyway, 5 years after you fell asleep another test subject was awoken by her, from what I heard, she killed GLaDOS and left, then 5 years later, nothing happened, then there's us escaping now."

"So, Aperture has fallen into heavy disrepair?" asked Amber.

"If the reactor that's exploding counts has heavy disrepair then yes," said Wheatley.

"Wait, the reactor is exploding!?" asked Amber.

Wheatley's optic nodded up and down.

"Yep, Sector 7-3T is already in flames," said Wheatley as he slid to the middle of the room.

A small bit of the ceiling opened up and the small bit of the rail that Wheatley was on went up into the ceiling, the panels closing after he went up.

"Um, Wheatley, what are you doing?" asked Amber.

"Starting the engine up so we can get out of here," replied Wheatley, "You might want to hold onto something."

Amber was about to ask why, but the room shook a little, causing the fridge to open and for the table and chairs to fall apart. Amber grabbed onto the table that didn't fall apart so she didn't fall over.

After a moment or so the shaking stopped and Wheatley came back down.

"Alright, there we go, the room is ready to move," Wheatley said to Amber.

"Uhh, ok, well, what's the plan?" asked Amber.

"The plan is to get you a gun that shoots holes, not bullet holes-"

"The Aperture Science Hand-Held Portal Device, yeah, I know what that is," Amber said, cutting Wheatley off.

"Right, well, the plan is to go through some old testing chambers that the last subject did, I'll meet you up ahead and we'll find the escape lift," said Wheatley.

"Warning, core overheating, evacuate the facility! Evacuate immediately!" said the pre-recorded Announcer message.

"Oh! That's our queue!" Wheatley said as he went back up into the ceiling.

Wheatley went back up into the ceiling, the room shook and some of the wall fell off, Amber looked out of the holes to see the relaxation facility in complete ruins. Amber had to hold on tight as Wheatley was banging the rooms against other rooms; she began to wonder if he was even qualified to drive the relaxation rooms…

After some time of banging against other rooms and Wheatley rambling about how much trouble he'd be in if the management came down, Wheatley finally crashed the room into a wall that said docking station, which it obviously wasn't.

Wheatley came back down from the ceiling.

"And, there we go, so, this is an old testing track the subject went through, but I'm sure you'll be fine- Ow!" Wheatley was cut off as his fell off his management rail and onto the very stiff bed.

"Oh, dear, are you alright Wheatley?" asked Amber.

"Ow…uh…yes, I'm ok, but uh, it seems I fell off and I can't move, mind taking me with you?" Wheatley asked.

"Sure," replied Amber, she walked over to the bed and picked Wheatley up, Amber walked back over to the hole which led to the testing track and jumped in.

Several Testing Chamber Later…

Amber walked into a room that had a destroyed pellet emitter hanging out of the wall, the wall was also broken in the corner which led to the next chamber, she let go of Wheatley, shot a blue portal to the other room and picked Wheatley up with the portal gun again, and jumped through the orange portal that was on the ground.

"Ah! Perfect, see that stick on the wall over there?" Wheatley said as he pointed his optic in the direction where a core port had just come out of the wall, "plug me into it and I'll make us a secret passage way."

Amber plugged Wheatley in.

"Yeah, I can't do it if you're watching, could you just turn around for a moment?" asked Wheatley.

Amber just rolled her eyes and turned around. *Beep, Beep, Beep*

"Alright, you can turn around now," said Wheatley, and as he said that a secret wall panel opened.

Amber turned around. "Bam!" said Wheatley, "Secret door that I opened, while your back was turned. Pick me up and let's get out of here," The plug dropped him and he sat, and rolled, on the floor.

Amber came over and picked Wheatley up and walked through the secret passage way.

"So, where does this lead?" Amber asked.

"Well, this might sound bad, but this should take us straight to her," Wheatley replied. Amber stopped and looked right at him.

"Why are we going to her?" Amber asked.

"Well, that's where an escape lift is?" Wheatley replied, though he didn't sound so sure.

"There IS an escape lift there, correct?" Amber asked.

"Well…no…I mean yes! I mean, I'm not sure," Wheatley answered, sounding less sure by the minuet.

"How about, instead of standing round, let's go see, worst case scenario, we get killed by her," Wheatley said.

"And what's the best case scenario?" Amber asked Wheatley.

"Um, she doesn't kill us?"

Amber continued walking till they came to a very familiar bridge corridor; it was destroyed, but intact enough to use it. They walked to the end where a very slow door opened and they saw her lying on the ground, motionless, dead.

"Oh, she's dead, that's good," Wheatley said relived.

"Not for long," said a familiar voice. "Over here."

They look at the core transfer port, A.A.C.E was plugged in, there was a diagonal split across his optic, on side was red, the other was cold light blue.

"A.A.C.E, is that you?" Wheatley asked

"The one and only, hey, remember when I told you I was originally going to be the central A.I?" A.A.C.E asked.

Amber and Wheatley nodded in unison.

"Well, that is finally gonna happen; I'm going to become the new Central A.I!" A.A.C.E yelled, clearly excited.

"Awesome," Wheatley said.

"Then I'm gonna through you into the incinerator and test you for the rest of your life!" A.A.C.E yelled, still excited.

"Amazing- wait, WHAT?!" Wheatley yelled.

"You were created to make her stupid, but since she isn't in control anymore, you are considered useless, so I will incinerate you and recycle your parts to make something that IS useful," A.A.C.E replied.

"You can't do that!" Wheatley yelled at A.A.C.E.

"Oh, just try and stop me," A.A.C.E said as the core port went down into the floor, walls opened up around GLaDOS. Amber and Wheatley saw sparks fly.

"Power up initiated," The announcer said. "Power up complete, new A.I installed."

The walls went down to show the corrupted A.I plugged in her body, his red/cold light blue eye staring at them.

"This is amazing! I can fix the facility, recycle you, and test you to death, all at once!" A.A.C.E excitedly yelled.

"Um, I think we should run," Wheatley said.

"I think you are right," Amber replied. She ran for the door, which, thankfully, was closing very slowly. She slid under the door, Wheatley still held by the gun's forces, and she ran, ran faster than ever before. She had to get to a section of the facility that, hopefully, A.A.C.E wouldn't see.

"Come Back! I'm not done with you yet!" A.A.C.E yelled over the speakers.

A vertical security door was closing up ahead; she threw Wheatley through, but couldn't fit through. Quickly, she shot a portal on the other side of the door before it closed; now she had to find an auto orange portal, and fast!

She ran down the corridors looking through offices, until she came across one that had an auto orange portal in it. She smashed a chair through the window, climbed though, and ran for the orange portal.

"Oh, no you don't." A.A.C.E said over the speakers. The lights were turning off, the power, he was shutting it down! If she didn't get the portal now, she'd be trapped. So, Amber ran faster and harder, she jumped through the portal. As soon as she jumped through the portal closed.

Amber knew that they would be safe for a while, so she grabbed Wheatley, sat down on the floor, closed her eyes, and quickly fell into a deep slumber.

"I guess I stay awake and watch for danger then. Sleep well Amber," Wheatley said to her, even though she was fast asleep, he then looked up and down the corridors for trouble, then he saw something, no, someone! The person was walking over to them quite quickly.

"Uh oh," Wheatley said, as the figure got closer.
