Doctor

I couldn't do it. With all the pain she had been through, I just couldn't do it. She was scared and I couldn't blame her. I would be in her position. Right now if I was her I would be making some light-hearted joke, trying to make some light of the situation.

She was hidden behind her emotionless mask but I knew she was scared. We had seen each other without our masks so we knew when one was putting on a brave face.

"Sweetie there is a way out of this, isn't there?" she asked fearfully.

My heart broke in that instant. She was so frightened. The brave warrior facade was just that, a facade. There was nothing I could do that was painless but the least I could do was keep up the illusion a little longer.

"Yes, there's got to be" I lied.

I frantically paced around the room fiddling around with my sonic screwdriver.

"Come on, come on" I muttered.

I had to think of something, anything but I couldn't.

"Doctor" she said, worryingly.

"Ssh relax, it'll be fine" I reassured her.

I closed my eyes as I did it. I pointed my sonic screwdriver at her and it broke her wrist. My heart went out to her when I heard her scream of pain. I made quick work of the angel before it could hurt us, then I turned my attention back to my wife. Her wrist was bleeding very badly and her eyes were screwed shut from the pain. I took off my bowtie and used it as a bandage around her wrist.

"How, how bad is it?" she asked, trembling.

It looked positively horrible but I couldn't tell her that.

"It'll heal" I said, avoiding the question.

"It's bad then I take it" she assumed.

"Could be better" I replied.

She opened her eyes to look at her wound and gasped in shock.

"God it looks terrible" she said in horror.

I had to have something to heal her or at least ease her pain. I rummaged around my bigger in the inside pockets and I found a jar of Killean ointment. I gently dabbed it onto her wound and her wrist healed.

"There all better now" I declared.

"Since when did you carry things like this?" She curiously asked.

I always carried medical supplies since the death of my first companion. My life was so dangerous and humans so fragile.

"Well I am a doctor" I answered.
