Chapter 2

Malfoy sat brooding quietly. Granger had surpassed him in all of the subjects at Hogwarts, and now she had better hair then him too. Life just wasn't fair. Feeling maudlin, he stabbed his broccoli, causing his plate to fall off. Granger turned around from her cuddle session with Crookshanks. Her eyes widened.

"Is that…broccoli?"

She was looking at the broccoli the same way he looked at his hair gel.

"It's rude to stare, Granger."

She huffed.

"Well, it's ruder not to offer your guests something to eat."

Malfoy sighed. It was going to be a long afternoon.

She came back on Wednesday, at 5:00. He was prepared. On the dinner table was a bowl of broccoli and cheese. Malfoy wasn't much of a cook. She didn't say anything, but her eyes gleamed. Malfoy thought that this whole pet visiting business wasn't so bad after all.

They had a routine. When she came, there would be some sort of meal on the table that contained broccoli. She would eat it in silence, and feed some of it to Crookshanks. Not many words were exchanged. Malfoy could almost forget she was there, until Saturday.

"No broccoli, Malfoy?"

"Eat your dinner, Granger."

At the bottom of the bowl of mashed potatoes, there was a single piece of broccoli.
