Chapter 2: After returning from the mission.
Colonel Reynolds now is walking down the hall to Major Carter's lab trying to think of what to say to her now. But as he is about to say something to himself, he walks into Major Carter on the room. "Major Carter, I was just coming to see you and to speak to you now."
"Public lecture to me about what Colonel?"
"Well to first, give you this note, to you and second, to tell you if you need to talk, I am willing to listen."
"Colonel Reynolds what is this all about now?"
"Well I cannot tell you that Major. I was ordered by the General to not tell you and I know if you ask him, he is going to tell you that you cannot know. I was just lucky to be able to fetch you this note is all."
"Well, I do not like not being told stuff Colonel."
"Major Carter, I also told them not to include you on this briefing too, so if you're going to blame anyone Major then blames me."
"What?"
"I believe I possess every right to be a part of SG-1 briefings now, and to say that you would not desire me as part of this briefing sir. Well Major, now you know why straight from the General Hammond." He moved around and steered to the briefing room with Major Carter hot on his trail with the bill in her hired man.
"General Hammond, Colonel Reynolds sirs."
"Yes major?" they both say at the same time.
"Would either of you like to narrate me the actual cause you two did not want me to be part of the briefing now. Or else, do I have to guess and hear the real reason later from someone else then?"
"Major, if you would like to hear it, then steps into my office and I will tell you now. That is, if you still want to know the truth, Major Carter."
"Sir, yes, I do."
"Well then Major come with me and I will show you why you're not being told this briefing now and what the real reason is for." He walked over and pointed to one of the television screens on the wall, which currently showed the infirmary. "Major do you see the three wounded SG-9 members in the body bags laying in the infirmary now."
"Yes sir, I do."
"Good Major. They are part of the SG-9 exploration team until that was sent to investigate the so-called information we got informed received about two weeks ago. But what wasn't told to use at the time is the planet in question now was actually a Goa'uld strong hold and a very fortified outpost as well to. Therefore, they were ordered by me to look and check it out."
"General Sir, what does this have to do about me not being part of the mission briefing now sir?"
"Those three were hand-picked by Colonel O'Neill and he has decided to make it his staff's mission to take out this out post and destroy it."
"Sir, if I may now ask, why is this mission so important to the Colonel?"
"If you want to know then ask him yourself after he has recovered and left the Infirmary."
"General Sir, what you mean Colonel O'Neill is in the infirmary now sir?"
"Major he took several staff blasts to the chest and to his midsection on the mission. Colonel Reynolds is the one that radioed the SGC that they were under heavy fire. When I asked him to let me speak to Colonel O'Neill, Reynolds told me that Colonel O'Neill was not moving and had been hit badly several times." Hammond could not see the tears rolling down the Majors face. "Major, are you going to be ok now?"
"Sir, I don't know yet if I will be sir."
"What does that mean Major?"
"Sir, permission to speak freely now sir?"
"Yes, Major."
"General Sir, I have to tell someone this now or I will not be able to do my duties here at the SGC."
"Major, what are you talking about?"
"Sir, I have very strong feelings for Colonel O'Neill, sir, and have had these feeling for some time now."
"What?! Did you just say what I think you said Major?!"
"Sir, yes sir, I did now."
"Do you Major know that it is not possible for two ranking officers in the same command posting to have these feelings at all?"
"I know this sir, but I cannot get rid of them now sir. I have no idea what I should do now…"
"What I have to ask you now, Major, is does Colonel O'Neill know that you have these feeling towards him now?"
"No sir, I do not think he does sir."
"Then I am going to suggest you talk to him soon about this and or take some time off to think about what you are going to do. However, just to warn you now, I know for a fact that a Senator in Washington is going to have something to say about this."
"Sir I know this. However, I still would like to stay here at the SGC and in the same unit as the Colonel, sir."
"I know I cannot ask you to stop having these feeling towards Colonel O'Neill, Major Carter. But I do know you're going to have to deal with this sooner rather than later before it gets way out of hand and there is an investigation into your conduct now here at the SGC Major."
"Yes sir."
"Good Major – you're dismissed for now, and do not do anything to make the other people think something is going on between you two here."
"I will not sir."
"Fine you are clear to return to duty then."
"Thank you sir."
Part 2 of Chapter 2: Trying to find a replacement for Colonel O'Neill.
Hammond walks out of his office now to figure out what to do about Colonel O'Neill leaving. However, in his mind the Colonel was going to be very hard to replace now. He would be leaving the SGC as soon as he could and with the thought of losing a great officer and a very good friend, which he would miss. However, the fact of the matter still remained in his mind who could take his place as the leader of SG-1 now. Hammond studied the base files and looked at the base staff on the security cameras now, which wasn't that easy for him to do or to have to do since this morning at the briefing he would went to and took part in as well. He thought to himself hard now, then said, "All SGC teams have a good leader now. Except for SG-1 now, which does not have a leader or a commanding officer?" He thought about just asking Colonel O'Neill to help him find someone to take his place or to suggest someone now. Colonel O'Neill was about finished getting his stuff together now and ready to leave for the carrier group that he was ordered to take up as the ranking Air Force officer onboard. When Hammond walked in to see him and ask if there was a way for him to just stay another month or two now at the SGC before leaving.
"Sir I would like nothing more than to stay for one or two months longer at SGC. However, I have my orders in my hand now and I have to be catching a flight to Anchorage, Alaska now. Sir if I do not head out now I am going to miss my plane and I will have to get another flight in two weeks' time sir." When Jack walked out and started to go up to the parking garage, Teal'c met him and Daniel at the elevator entrance. They rode up together in silence, until…
"Why?" Daniel asked him sadly.
"You three seem to be doing well on your own now. So what possible reason should I have to not go or to stay now? Well I asked you two people a question and if I do not get a good answer from each of you here, I am getting in my truck and leaving now." The doors opened, only to have Major Carter stop them.
"Well I have one for you sir: General Hammond says you are to report to the Briefing room right away to take up a mission to the Alpha site."
"Shit. What could I be needed for now? I thought I had said my goodbyes and I am ready to leave for my new assignment now. Did General Hammond say what for and why I was needed or why I have to report now to him?"
"No, he never told me anything just to find you and tell you to head to the briefing room now."
Colonel O'Neill turned around then got back into the elevator. He then pressed the button that would take him back to the briefing room level and to where General Hammond was waiting for him now. "General Sir, Major Carter said you wanted to see me before I left for my new posting sir."
"Yes, I did Colonel O'Neill. It is about your new posting. You have been ordered by the Pentagon to take a team through the gate and find out what happened to the Alpha site and then report back to me on what the site looks like now."
"General Hammond sir, then I asks permission to take the Odyssey to the Alpha site and then beam down with the team sir."
"Is there anything else sir you wanted to talk to me about now?"
"Yes Colonel…what are you doing out of the Infirmary now or did Dr. Frasier let you out?"
"No sir – I left when I heard that we lost communication with the Alpha site now Sir."
"Yes, that is right."
Briefing Room at 1000 hours
General Hammond was in his office talking two Pentagon officers about what to do and how to get in contact with the Alpha site now back. Just then, Colonel O'Neill knocks on the door waiting to be told to come in. "Come in Colonel O'Neill."
"Sir, you said you wanted to see me right away?"
"Yes. We have lost all communication with the Alpha site now and are trying to figure out a way to see if there is anyone still alive or not there."
"What about sending the Daedalus sir to check it out?"
"Colonel the Daedalus is on its way back to us now here and will not be back for another two days. We need to find out what is going on there now and if they are under attack now or not Colonel."
"General Sir. Request permission to take a team of my choice and hand-pick the team members myself and go find out sir."
"Colonel, who for this team do you have in mind then?"
"Colonel Reynolds and SG-3, Colonel Ferretti and SG-2, and SG-1 and myself sir with back up support from SG-13 and SG-22 sir. With your permission, that is."
"Colonel O'Neill: permission granted, and good luck to you."
"Thank you sir." Colonel O'Neill walked out of the briefing room and straight into his team. "Carter, you are staying behind on this mission now here and we'll be back in say about a week to four weeks Major."
"What sir? I am being told to stay here sir and not go on the mission?"
"Yes that is right Major and do not make me tell you it is an order here now."
"Well you are going to have to now sir because I am going with you."
"Fine, come if you like and want to major. Moreover, you are endangering the mission by coming along Major, just so you know this."
"What you mean I am going to endanger the mission by coming along sir?"
"Well Major…yes, if you must know something has happened to the Alpha site now. We have lost all communication with it now."
