Chapter Two

Jacob seemed to have learned from his so-called past mistakes, he wasn't going to let them ruin his 'relationship' with her this time. Especially after the amount of loops he had to go through previously. His family had an idea already though he wasn't going to give up that easily. He refused to tell anyone anything now, even his friend Noah was kept in the dark these days. Jacob was counting down the days till her release date, less then a year and she would be out. Her being pregnant had made the stakes even higher and he was even more careful. To avoid any suspicion, he rekindled his old friendship with Liv and was acting like nothing was going on. Once again, he was using her to hide his relationship with Maya; Liv had no idea of cause. They were just playing some video games in 'The Grange', the usual. Liv was talking about Victoria.

"Robert is dead nervous about her pregnancy because of everything that happened but erm...I think it will be good for her" Liv began.

"Yeah...when is her due date then?" Jacob asked.

"Erm...well she's only gone a month so it will be about February next year, we're hoping it's a girl to be honest; it be nice to have another girl in the family"

"Boys are easier though"

"Boys are annoying" Liv joked.

He was talking in code again, he was hoping Maya would have a boy but he was talking like he expected Victoria to have a boy. Liv brought up the topic of babies and therefore he felt sneaky enough to do that. She just gave him a slight nudge, laughing as she just managed to beat him in the game.

"Boys suck more at video games too" Liv quickly added with a smirk.

"Whatever...you only beat me because I was distracted"

"Sore loser; how are you holding up anyway?"

"Alright but I still don't wanna talk about it, anyway...stop changing the subject, we're having a rematch"

"Game on"

...

On the opposite side of this secret pact, Maya was forced into hiding her real name. She was now Mary. The women didn't recognize her in there (thankfully for her), she pretty much changed her appearance. Her hair was cut into a bob style, so when she made her first appearance into the mother and baby unit; she was unrecognizable to those who never met her before. She was sent to share a cell with another pregnant woman, walking into the cell to meet her new inmate was daunting. Maya just hoped she didn't speak much to her, she was a twenty-seven year old woman called Paula. She was sent to prison for some drug possession charge, hiding drugs for her boyfriend or something along those lines. Paula just looked over as Maya entered holding onto some spare clothes. She didn't say much, barely acknowledged her to be honest.

"Welcome to luxury" Paula flatly joked; barely changing her tone to sarcasm. Her humor was drier than a desert.

Maya just walked past her with a sigh. She wasn't use to conversing with these sort of people, she was a bit of a snob. Paula just gave a shrug as she went back to lying on the bed with some magazine. Talk or don't talk...she didn't care to be honest. The only sound in the background was babies crying down the hall. The mother and baby unit was pretty much filled with the sounds of babies crying all day and all night.

"I wish they would shut up!" Maya snapped. Making her room-mate turn her head slightly.

"Not very maternal are ya? Fun times ahead for your kid"

Though this just made Maya roll her eyes as she made her way on the top bunk. That was pretty much all Paula expected to hear from her new cellmate. She heard Maya turning to her side to go to sleep, she had nothing better to do. It was hard to do though with babies constantly crying in the background. She couldn't wait to leave this place, wasn't her scene at all.

"Chloroform is what those kids need" Maya muttered under her breath.

For an ex teacher and governess, she wasn't very maternal. Though that part of her life was over, she no longer had time for children. She wasn't very excited for the one she was currently carrying.

"Bloody Hell! You just stop speaking love because I don't fancy hearing your mad rambles!" Paula hissed.

...

Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months. Jacob had been pretty quiet these last two months or so. Only speaking with Liv and his grandfather Eric, he kept the peace with David and Leyla so he could avoid suspicion. He made a secret phone-call with Maya every Tuesday at his grandfather's hotel. That was the current plan anyway, he was sitting at the desk and was doing his usual shift at the hotel. Picking up calls and writing down reservations. He was nervously awaiting the phone-call, making sure his grandfather was out of sight. It rang and he spoke...

"The Grange...how can I help?"

Maya was on the other end this time as she nervously stood there. She went for her first baby scan today, she asked for two of them. Though she didn't know what to do with the other one, whether to risk sending it to Jacob or to just give it to her mother.

"Hey...I went for the scan today" Maya began nervously.

Making Jacob quickly straighten up, the five month scan. In his mind, he felt like he should have been there but they weren't allowed contact at all. Which they were totally ignoring right now. If anyone found out, Hell would break loose. Especially with David and Leyla, they thought the court case would be the end.

"I wish I was there...it's all I been thinking about" Jacob softly spoke.

"Do you want see the scan? I could send it to you but erm...I don't want to risk being exposed again"

"Yeah, you know what; I can wait, there's no need...when I see you and the baby, that will be better then any scan"

"Okay...I still wish you could see her scan though"

"Her?"

"Sorry...force of habit, I found out it's a girl today, sorry for just exposing it like that but it doesn't matter, does it?"

Jacob just kept quiet for a few moments, a girl...Maya was having a girl. The gender of the baby though was the least of their worries. The lad just breathed in slightly, that was rather big news. Whether they liked it or not, Jacob would be the father of a little girl. He was a teenage dad...inevitably now.

"No, I don't care what gender it is...I know this sounds bad but I've been worried about you more, I hate the thought of you being in there" Jacob confessed.

"Well I will be out in a few months or so...don't worry about me, I'm fine; they don't know who I am so it's all good"

"You are so much stronger then I would be"

Maya gave a small laugh, she was not strong. She was crumbling inside, she looked in the mirror and was disgusted at herself. How could she have pulled Jacob into her mess of a life? The lad was only 16 for goodness sake (turning 17 this year), she was pushing on 41 next year. Their relationship was wrong in so many ways yet here she was...five months gone with his child. For she was now sure it was his (as was he).

"I miss you"

"I miss you too...so much; I meant what I said on the day that I last saw you outside, I want to look after you"

"Yeah? Well I might need it...most women get the father of their child at the birth don't they? Meanwhile, what do I get? A couple of prison guards and somebody from child's protection service"

"It's stupid...well I think you're gonna be a great mum for what it's worth, I just wish I could be there with you"

"I did think of abortion but erm...I couldn't go through with it"

Jacob gave a sigh, he was about to reply however he was slightly interrupted by a rather loud Faith coming in. She and Eric were having a small argument over something, he didn't really care to know.

"Sorry...they're back" Jacob quietly told Maya.

"I will go then"

"Okay...just remember that I love you" Jacob whispered.

The phone-line went dead and he gave another sigh. He turned back towards Eric and Faith, they were still arguing. Jacob looked annoyed as he crossed his arms, in his mind; they ruined his and Maya's weekly talk. The only time he got to speak to her was for around half an hour on the phone every Tuesday and they ruined that.

"Why don't you both shut up!" Jacob snapped.

Pushing past a rather stunned Faith and Eric, making his way out the door and slamming it shut. Though he had a lot on his mind now...he was going to be a father to a little girl. He didn't know how to react. Most lads his age would be planning college or some lad's holiday but he was planning on how to keep a baby a secret. Though he wasn't quite as angry as most would be, he didn't have to deal with the consequences right now. Five months gone...she would give birth in four months then.
