"What's that?" Dr. Turner asked.
"Nick isn't allergic to bees, I've personally seen him get stung twice, in fact once was just this past summer, sure he said it was a little sore, but he was completely fine." Jackie told Dr. Turner.
"Well, most people don't realize it but people can develop allergic reactions throughout their lives, just because he didn't have a reaction before doesn't mean that he can't have problems now. We're going to keep him in the hospital overnight for observations but by tomorrow unless there is an unforeseen complication we expect him to be able to go home. Do you have any questions for me?"
"Can I see him?" Jackie asked.
"Sure, follow me." He said.
He then started walking down the hall with Jackie and Catherine right on his heels.
"Thank you." Jackie told him with a smile after he had stopped by one doorway.
"If you need anything just have me paged." He told the two women with a smile.
"Thank you, and thank you so much for helping save my husband."
"You're very welcome." He replied with a smile before he turned and walked down the hallway.
"You go ahead, I'll give you a couple minutes alone with him and then I'll come in." Catherine told her once the doctor had left.
"Are you sure, you don't have to wait out here, you can come in."
"I'll be in in a minute." Catherine assured her, thinking it would be nice to give the couple a little privacy before she came into the room.
"Ok, and Catherine, I never got a chance to thank you, but you helped save Nick too, you got him help quickly, and for that, from the bottom of my heart, thank you." Jackie told her as she wrapped her in a hug.
"Nicky, would have done it for any one of us." She told her as she hugged her back.
Jackie offered her one last smile before walking into Nick's room.
As soon as the door opened Nick turned his head and when he saw who it was he gave her a big smile.
"Hi." He said softly.
"Hi." She replied as she walked over to his hospital bed and immediately grabbed his hand.
Tears started to trickle down her face.
"I'm ok." He assured her as he reached over and wiped a couple of her tears.
"I know." She told him.
"I love you so very much." She added just seconds later.
"I love you too." He replied with a gentle smile.
"I was so scared." She said as a couple more tears escaped her eyes.
"I know and I'm sorry."
"You don't have anything to be sorry for." She assured him.
"You should take a couple deep breaths and grab a chair and sit down, it isn't good for you or the baby to get so upset." He told her as he softly laid a hand over her ever expanding stomach.
He amazed her, he had just gone through a near death experience and all he was concerned about was her and their baby.
She smiled at him and briefly let go of his hand so she could grab a chair from the other side of the room but once she had slid the chair to the side of his bed she immediately grabbed his hand again.
"Tell me what happened." She said.
"Well Cath and I were at our scene in an alley when all of a sudden I felt a needle-like prick in my forearm, then I felt my throat start to close and I couldn't breathe, then I must have blacked out because the next thing I remember is waking up here in the hospital wondering where I was. The doctor explained to me that I had experienced a very severe reaction to a bee sting which shocked me because I didn't think I was allergic to bees but the doctor said that people can develop allergic reactions throughout their lives."
"Yeah, he told me the same thing."
Nick was just about to keep talking when there was a knock on the door.
"Come in." He called.
"How are you doing Nicky?" Catherine asked as she walked into the room.
"Just fine thanks to you." Catherine smiled.
"So glad to hear it but Nicky you have to stop scaring us like this." She told him as she walked around to his bedside and grabbed his other hand.
"I know, I'll try to be better behaved." He told her with a grin.
They all chuckled.
"Seriously though Catherine, thank you."
"Hey you would have done it for anyone of us." She said, repeating the same thing she had told Jackie just minutes before.
He nodded in agreement.
Catherine stayed a few more minutes just to visit and then she decided that she should get back to work on their case, it looked like she'd now be working this one solo.
After Catherine left Nick and Jackie made small talk for a bit but soon Nick's eyes started to close, he was exhausted, this whole ordeal really took its toll on him.
As Nick slept Jackie watched him as his chest moved gently up and down. She agreed with Catherine whole heartedly, Nick really did need to stop scaring them all like that.
The End!
