Calor: (n.) Spanish for heat
Zuko had a way of making the heat rise to Katara's cheeks like no other. It didn't matter whether it was from complimenting her, angering her, making her laugh hard enough to turn her face red with something, or (the most humiliating one) going shirtless during training or when they were at the beach. None of the others could replicate his skill at making red blossom across her face, even through angering her. Not even Aang, with his affection and flirting, or Sokka or Toph, with their infuriating laziness and comments. It was something she reserved for the Fire Lord only. Likewise, Katara could make Zuko flush with embarrassment or anger the easiest of any of them.
More often than not, he would do something funny, stupid, or a combination of the two, and would laugh until her face was red, while his face flushed red from embarrassment, and he would always duck his head in shame to hide it. She would always tease him gently before showing some kind of affection that made him blush for an entirely different reason, before returning the favor to bring a light blush to her cheeks.
The times where they would turn red from anger at each other would usually lead to sparring, which quickly became legendary and drew a crowd. They would duel honorably until they were ready to debate peacefully in private again, and would sort out whatever issues they had like that.
But one of the things the others most noticed about the two was how they shared a certain heat with each other. Zuko's fire burned brighter when he was fighting near or against Katara, while Katara became much warmer in general when she was close to Zuko. They would often share long meaningful glances that did not go unnoticed. While the two in question were oblivious, Sokka, Toph, and Aang often felt almost like they were intruding when they witnessed the heat that rose between the two in these moments. They knew it was something special.
They shared a special connection, a warmth and heat that none of the others had with them. It was strange, and new and somehow, completely perfect for them. And they wouldn't have it any other way.
Hopefully not too cliche. I wrote this in about 30 minutes so I know its sort of rushed but I hope it's not too suckish. Peace out! -lanamere
