Michonne laid on her side, one arm resting between her head and the pillow and her knees tucked to her belly. Their second round had left her feeling heady and spent, she had no desire to move as she focused on the small sliver of light coming through the cracked bathroom door. She smiled every time she caught glimpses of his bare ass, among other things, as he moved about the bathroom.
The light flicked off, obstructing her view and causing a brief moment of disappointment, until the object of her affection came through the door. The silver light of the moon streaming through his bedroom window was enough to illuminate his profile, and the lines and bends of his toned body as he came back to bed.
Once he got to the edge of the bed, he paused for a moment as he noticed her big brown eyes staring up at him.
"Why are you lookin' at me like that?" he asked as he offered her the glass of water he held in his hand.
She propped herself up on her elbow, and took the glass before giving him an answer.
"Because I can," she said with a grin before she brought the glass to her lips.
He looked down and shook his head, and though it was too dark to tell, she was certain she had made him blush. Him. The man who seemed to lose all inhibition in the bedroom was suddenly shy. She handed him the glass, and he took another sip before putting it on his nightstand and crawling back into bed and under the covers with her.
Once he settled in on his side, he sighed, content to be close to his baby again. They stared into each other's eyes for a moment with matching silly grins. The next world was brutal and unkind compared to the old world, and they were not the innocents they once were; so much had changed, but it seemed that falling in love was one thing that hadn't. Despite everything they'd been through and how the outside world saw them, in the confines of this bedroom, they were just a man and a woman in love. Giddy, silly, stupid, and completely in love.
He reached over to grab hold of the sheet tucked under her arms, and slowly pulled it down to her waist. She raised her eyebrows, questioning the reason for her exposure.
"Because I can," he answered as he trailed the back of his index finger down the side of her breast, along the curve of her waist, across her taut stomach, and up the center of her chest until he came to her neck. He cupped her cheek with his hand and studied her face. "You are so damn beautiful."
Now it was her turn to blush. She closed her eyes and began to look down, but he caught her face in his hand, forcing her to stay with him.
"You are. In every possible way."
She sighed and put her hand over his. What could she say to that? They were both drunk on this new freedom with each other; the ability to share more with and discover even more about someone they already knew so well now that they had opened their hearts to one another.
"Not always," she reminded him, thinking back to their start. She pulled their hands down from her cheek to rest on the bed between them.
"Nah, you've always had a certain...charm. Even back when you were covered in guts and bein' a smart ass."
She began to laugh and lightly shoved his chest with her free hand. "Now I know this is the sex talking..."
"Swear it's not."
"Then you had a funny way of showing it."
He shrugged, acknowledging that neither of them were exactly in their right mind back then.
"When did things change for you?" He tilted his head to question what she meant. "For us...between us," she clarified.
"Which time?" He asked as he began to laugh quietly while he reminisced. "You were always surprising me. I'd finally think I knew where we stood, but it kept changing."
"Mmm," she murmured thoughtfully, knowing exactly what he meant since they'd gone from strangers to allies to friends to family to something more in less than a year.
"I never hated you, for the record, I just didn't know you..."
"I know," she allowed.
"You know," he teased back. "You know everything."
"Then tell me something I don't know."
"I used to check out your ass," he admitted as he eyes drifted to said ass, the top of which was peeking out from the covers.
"I knew that," she said with a grin. "I caught you looking one time at the prison. Try again."
"OK...I used to get irritated when you'd leave the prison and go off on your own for weeks at a time."
"Yeah, it showed."
"Let me finish," he said, holding up a finger to quiet her. "It wasn't just a safety thing. Truth is I missed having you around."
"Really? Even then?"
"Even then."
"I did not know that."
He smiled proudly at getting one over on her, and decided to turn the tables. "Now you tell me something I don't know."
She took a deep breath and looked up at the ceiling, pondering what truths she would expose tonight.
"Well, since we're talking about the prison...I didn't really hate your beard. I brought you that razor just to give you a hard time, hopefully make you smile, maybe even laugh because I've always loved seeing you laugh."
"I hoped that was why because you tellin' me I was ugly would have hurt."
"Never," she assured him as she brought her hand up to stroke his face. "You're too handsome for your own good. In fact, I was convinced you had to be an asshole based on that face of yours alone. Turns out you aren't…"
"Depends on who you ask," he said with self-deprecation which caused her to laugh.
"Same here," she agreed since she knew they could both be difficult people at times.
"Maybe that's why we hit it off," he supposed as he put his hand on her hip and began to nudge the sheets even lower.
"Maybe so…"
She grinned and inched closer to him, feeling his growing excitement as her body pressed against his. "Really?"
"Really," he said with no shame as his hands began to roam over her body.
She hesitated for a moment, wondering if this round would be the one she hated herself for giving into in the morning when she was overtired and sore, but one look at his handsome face and not knowing whether some new threat or issue could emerge tomorrow that would keep them apart for who knows how long, she decided to go with it. One more moment with the man she loved is something she would never regret.
