-Chapter 2-
"19, and 20," Doreen said as she put down the weights she was working out with, "alright, time for some sprints." she said as she walked over tot he treadmill and turned up the speed, which was normal for her due to her enhanced reflexes and agility. As she ran she began wondering about what the future might hold, and truth be told, she was a little nervous. In New York she always had a team to watch her back, here in L.A., she was on her own. True there were other heroes in Los Angeles like, She Hulk and Moon Night, but she doubted she could count on them, since they both had their own duties, She Hulk with the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., and Moon Knight... well she had no idea what he would be up to.
"Doreen, breakfast is ready." her mom said as she walked into the gym to inform Doreen.
"I'll be out in five, got to stay in shape." Doreen said as she looked at her mother and in that moment lost her balance and was flung backwards, however she back flipped in mid air in order to land on her feet.
"On second thought, what's on the menu?" she asked with a laugh as she turned off the treadmill.
"Peanut butter toast and scrambled eggs." her mother said as she handed Doreen a towel that had been left hanging on a piece of equipment, and handed it to her daughter, which Doreen took and wiped off her sweaty face.
"Nice," she said in between panting breaths, "haven't had peanut butter toast in a long time, and I missed it." Doreen said as her mother gave a happy smile and left the room to finish preparing breakfast. Doreen closed the door and removed her work out pants and quickly changed into a pair of blue jeans, and put on a t-shirt, complete with a picture of a squirrel on it, and walked out of the gym and into the dinning room for her morning meal.
Doreen took a seat at the table and noticed her father was deeply interested in this mornings newspaper.
"Anything that might interest me, dad?" Doreen asked her father, which caused him to lower his paper.
"You mean interest Doreen Green, or Squirrel Girl?" her father asked with a smirk.
"Let's start with Squirrel Girl, anything that could interest her?" she asked her father.
"Lot of Criminal activity in the south side recently, if only someone we knew could do something about it." her father said with a grin.
"Sounds like the perfect chance for Squirrel Girl to make her debut in Los Angeles..." Doreen said as she took a freshly buttered slice of peanut butter toast and took a huge bite.
Doreen was walking down the road listening to her headphones, but in reality she was not listening to music, she was listening to the police scanner that was hidden in the backpack she was wearing, she was waiting for something to happen, that was she could fling off her jacket and pants, and she would be in her heroine attire in a snap, and Squirrel Girl could make her L.A. debut.
"Attention all officers, we have a possible domestic disturbance in progress, at the McDonald's on East 7th street," the dispatcher said, and Squirrel Girl was already in her heroine attire before the dispatcher was even finished, for she was only two blocks away, and she could probably make it before the nearest of L.A.'s finest could.
Squirrel Girl jumped down from the top of a two story building, and rolled into swift run as she approached the fast food joint, and she could hear screaming all the way across the street where she was standing, and she swiftly ran across the road, dodging and jumping over the fast moving cars in the process, and she burst into the restaurant.
"What's the problem?" she asked the rather stunned cashier, before the cashier could answer, SG heard a rather loud male voice shout, "I'll kill the bastard before I see you with him!"
Due to her enhanced hearing she quickly identified that the disturbance was coming from the female restroom and she quickly made her way in their, to find a rather large and rather mad looking man towering over a woman who was cowering while sitting on the restroom floor.
"You want to back off?" the squirrel heroine asked the man in a rather firm voice, which got his attention and he turned to face the squirrel tailed heroine.
"Who the hell are you!? The man asked her in a rage filed tone.
"The one and only Squirrel Girl," she said as she eyed the situation and tried to figure a way to end this peacefully and without bloodshed, "why are you threatening this poor woman?" SG asked in a rather angry tone.
"Stay the hell out of my business you mutant freak, or I'll beat your ass too!" the man said as he turned his back to the heroine and raised his right hand to strike the cowering woman, but SG would have none of that as she raced forward and put her hands around the mans chest and pulled him away from the woman.
"That's it you freak!" he shouted as he threw a swing at her, only to have her swiftly dodge to the side and counter attack by kicking him in the gut, and he was down on the ground. Suddenly the restroom door opened and in ran two Los Angeles police officers, who quickly eyed the situation.
"Here is your man behind the disturbance." SG said as she lightly tapped the man with her booted foot, and the second cop got on the ground and cuffed him, but just as SG was about the walk away, the first cop got in her way.
"Mind telling me what's going on here?" the cop in question asked her.
"Not sure, heard there was a domestic dispute, came in and took care of the problem." SG answered honestly.
"Alright, mind telling me who the heck you are?" the cop asked as he raised an eyebrow.
"I'm your friendly neighborhood, Squirrel Girl." SG answered with a friendly smile, and it was obvious the cops where not amused.
"Admittedly that was a bad joke, but..." she never got to answer as the lead cop raised a hand to silence her.
"Whatever, name's Steve by the way, I guess I owe you a thanks for catching this asshole." Steve said as he helped the handcuffed man to his feet.
"Go to hell." the man spat in Steve's face, which resulted in Steve punching the man as hard as he could in the face, and Doreen's enhanced hearing heard a crack that signified that the mans nose was broken.
"Was that really needed?" SG asked Officer Steve, to which Steve just shrugged and once again helped the now bleeding and crying man to his feet.
"You know this guy's story?" she asked Steve.
"Well, the lady in question used to be the mans ex-wife, but she divorced him, and this asshole," he said as he kneed him in his back, "this is the fourth time this guy has been arrested for stalking and attempted abuse. Hopefully tonight this guy will be put away for a long time." Steve said as he slapped the man and walked out of the restaurant bathroom, and SG followed Steve.
"You need me to testify?" SG asked as the man was hauled into the police car.
"I don't think that will be necessary, his ex wife will most likely testify." Steve said as he shoved the man into the car, and Doreen swore that he made sure he hit his car on the top of the roof as he shoved him into the police car.
"Not bad for a first night." Doreen said after she changed back into her civilian attire as she sat on her bed. "Stopped a domestic dispute on my first official night of crime fighting in L.A., can't wait to see what happens next."
