2.
"Well, this is suitably cheery" are the first lines out of my mouth when I land up in a place of floating boulders, green skies and a cheerful little vortex with a floating keep in the distance.
"Isn't it just?" came a voice that was a replica of mine. I turn around to look at a doppelganger of me, dressed like me in a white full sleeve shirt, comfortable black slacks and black leather oxfords.
What? I actually care about how I look. I'm not exactly good looking, so being well turned out is vital for me. I am self aware. And something about him niggled at my memory.
My doppelganger quirked an eyebrow at me, while a sardonic grin crossed his face, "So…dead man. Thought I was gone? You thought wrong. This….this is bigger than Thedas. Bigger than the Breach and its creator" he gestured and we were inside a room of gleaming metal, fluorescent lights and holographic screens. In the centre a hologram projecter displaying a planet.
"Welcome to Habitat-724. According to local records, the year is 9:41 Dragon. In reality, it is the year 23447 C.E., and you my young friend happen to be the last true human"
"We have a lot to bring you up to speed with" he continued as I felt my legs give way.
"He has slipped into the Fade. He is alive, but he is exhausted" said Solas, the elven apostate mage who seemed to know more about the Mark than I, Aren Lavellan of Clan Lavellan, could ever know.
And I had no idea then on how to help the man whose head lay in my lap, the same man who had been siding with me against everyone. From the Seeker to even the ruthless and dangerous Nightingale, he had taken my side in the argument.
He even ripped apart the Seeker's suspicions of us being the suspects in the destruction of the Conclave based on 'circumstantial evidence'.
And now, when he needed my help, all I could do was hold snow to his feverish brow as his eyes rolled around behind his eyelids and his face was screwed up from the pain.
"Is he in danger of possession?" asked Seeker Cassandra, who was nervously fiddling with her sword, her Nevarran accent coming through strongly.
I paused in my ministrations to flash Cassandra a filthy look, causing the Seeker to take a step back.
I felt the man who I was pillowing tense up, causing me to look down to a pair of deep brown eyes. I can see the recognition filter into them.
"You have beautiful eyes" were the first words out of his mouth, in fluent Tevene. His eyes widened in shock and embarrassment as soon as the words left his mouth.
Before I could even think of blushing, another demonic scream was heard in the distance. A faint ripple occurred around us before a yipping sound was heard in the distance. I then realised that the weight on my lap was gone.
A massive crash of lightning and a loud explosion was heard in the distance. The four of us shared a look and chased after the sounds of dying demons.
We followed the trail of brimstone and decaying flesh to see him in front of a rift, dodging around a Despair Demon's bolts of icy power. He suddenly began glowing with a white power, pulling the demon of its feet and as he slowly made a fist, the demon was crushed, its howls of despair (now isn't that ironic?) echoing across the plateau. He seemed to be shaky on his feet when we approached.
As we made our way to him, something strange happened. The rift suddenly lit up and a bolt of green power struck him, surrounding him in a corona. He seemed to struggle against it, his body shaking as if he were in the middle of a gale.
"You need to seal the rift before the excess power kills him!" Solas snapped at me, jerking us out of our shock. I nod firmly and stretch my left hand out to the rift, where the mark on my hand resonated with the rift, causing it to implode on itself.
The man fell to his knees as we approached, breathing heavily. On hearing the crunch of snow and gravel by our feet, he shot a smile at me, causing my own lips to twitch upwards as I ran to him.
"Are you alright?" I asked him in Orlesian, to which the man just nodded as he leaned against me. I blinked in surprise. When had I pulled him to his feet and began supporting his weight?
"I've been better" he admitted, his white shirt dirty and sporting tears, his pants had a long tear along the right leg and his right eye had a dark bruise, with a trickle of blood running from his hair line.
Before I could say anything further, the ground shook as a boulder crashed down in front of us and a Revenant broke out of the rock.
My fellow prisoner suddenly flickered forward out of my grasp and somehow slammed the palm of his head onto the head of the demon, a glowing blue ball whirling away, which began grinding away at it. The high pitched screeches of the Revenant were cut off abruptly and it toppled to the ground.
Well, you see something new every day. Judging by the shocked looks on Solas's face, it definitely was new.
By the time we dealt with Roderick-the-Pest, we split up.
I decided that the Seeker, Solas, Varric and my fellow prisoner, the pretty tattoed elf woman, would be better served going up the mountain pass, while I punched a hole through to the remaining Chantry forces, while serving as a noisy distraction. Especially considering my alternate, who was happy to wreck any chance of me thinking I was having a very vivid nightmare, had given me a ton of tips and tricks to utilize against the demons.
That was the plan.
In reality, this is what happened.
I blurred into motion to the first beleaguered group of soldiers being menaced by a group of Shades. I landed in the midst of the enemy spirits in a crash of lightning. I then flicked up a sword from one of the fallen soldiers and start generating a charge on the blade, causing static electricity to spark along its edges until red plasma enveloped the blade.
I smirked as I eyed a group of shambling demons as they seemed to notice the Fade energy I was drawing. One of them let out an incoherent scream, to which I focused the energy I had bubbling away in me and let out a scream that sounded like a triumphant bird of prey, bursting them like bubbles and shattering the ground around me.
Grinning viciously I threw myself into the biggest thicket of demons.
Stab, slash, kick, magic blast. Locate next thicket of bad guys. Rinse and repeat.
I soon got into a flow as I carved my way to the Temple of Sacred Ashes.
Then a blue screen popped up in front of my eyes.

Zoicks! Is my last conscious thought as my vision blacks out.
Yes, he's different. No, he's not a robot.
