Chapter 2: The First Time
Dayton and Roxanne were confronted with quite a shocking site. The whole entire class was losing it, going on and off about another person that happened to show up. That person was sitting on the opposite wall of the classroom with his head against the wall, clearly in a disgusted mood. Roxanne could tell that he hated it just by looking at him; hearing all these people ramble on about the same thing all over again.
"I've never seen anyone with red eyes before!"
"OMG, his hair is like, seriously long! How does he get it so long, black, and thick?" People went up and tried to touch his hair, only to find themselves being yelled at.
"Hey, keep your hands off, do you want a knuckle sandwich?!" He yelled while clenching his fist, causing them to cower and walk back to their desks as it only created more gossiping.
"Wow, he's so intimidating. He's kind of scary."
"I'm afraid he might come up behind me as I'm sleeping and rip all my clothes off." One girl said. The whole class became silent and stared at her with perplexed or annoyed expressions, prompting her to just stay quiet and slowly slide down into her desk. It wasn't long before the commotion returned after that.
The male had incredibly long, black, spiky hair with red, snake-like eyes; they cut through anyone like knives. He was wearing a black, sleeveless torso with beige pants and black boots to match. The outfit was pretty daunting, having ripped-up edges on the ends, giving a darker impression.
"Ugh, what a bunch of morons! How the hell did I end up here?" He thought to himself angrily, sitting against the wall in disgust with a desire to punch everyone in the face. They just kept going on and on about him and he hated every second of it. The only one that wasn't irritating was someone sitting next to the classroom door. He was wearing a black hoodie with blue lightning streaks on it, along with blue cargo jeans and black tennis-shoes to match. He had a pair of black earbuds, only one of them in his ear. The guy could tell that the new mage was annoyed with everyone, and could relate on some level. Eventually, Ms. Areca made it to the classroom standing behind Erza and Natsu. The three couldn't see anything past Roxanne and Dayton right away, watching as Roxanne eventually got frustrated.
"This has to stop." She stated, heading straight to the teacher's desk. Dayton immediately knew what she planned to do.
"Oh man! Here she goes!" He stated nervously. Dayton knew of the drastic measures she'd take to enforce the rules and this was one of them. There happened to be a megaphone on the teacher's desk, so she went for it. The new male mage looked up and noticed her with the megaphone, wondering what she was going to do with it. She turned it on and up to maximum volume, about to scream into it as Dayton plugged his ears.
"WILL YOU ALL SHUT THE HELL UP! THE TEACHER IS BACK IN CLASS NOW!" She screamed madly, causing everyone to immediately freeze. In that exact second, they all quickly raced to their seats in a frenzy of fear, doing exactly as she said for they too knew how easily frustrated she got. Dayton unplugged his ears afterward, calming down as Ms. Areca stood and observed. She usually felt paranoid about Roxanne's ways, but at least she wasn't a troublemaker that caused her stress. Natsu quietly remarked how Erza would do such a thing, lucky that she didn't hear. Two managed to get a glance of the inside of the classroom, both coming across the man sitting up next to the wall. Seeing such, Erza became surprised while Natsu only got annoyed by him just being there, ready to start commotion just off of that.
"It's Gajeel!" Erza said surprised, catching Dayton's attention as Natsu starts walking up to Gajeel.
"Gajeel?" Dayton wondered, "Who is that?"
"A guild-mate of ours," Erza said calmly. "Not the nicest person but he can be trusted." She explained to Dayton as he narrowed his eyes in response. It reminded him of someone he knew quite well. Natsu walked up to the desk that Gajeel was sitting at, slamming his fist on the table for no apparent reason and starting an argument.
"What are you doing here?! Why is it that I'm always stuck with you?!" Natsu shouted angrily. Gajeel turned to Natsu with an annoyed expression on his face, being as short-tempered as he is.
"Quit your whining! I don't know how the hell I got here, all you ever do is get in my way!" Gajeel shouted in annoyance, angering Natsu even more. Roxanne looked at the two surprised, it reminding her of a familiar sight. She had to deal with that sight again as she saw Dayton now arguing with the guy in the black hoodie, rolling her eyes at his immaturity.
"Well look at that, it sounds like what I have to deal with when talking to you Kyousuke!" Dayton said irritated, trying to start a fight. Kyousuke looked up with a calm, slightly irritated expression on his face. Surprisingly, this catches Natsu and Gajeel's attention, as they both turn to the two, wondering what's going on.
"I didn't ask to have a conversation with you," Kyousuke said annoyed, purposely annoying Dayton as everyone watched them argue.
"You're just jealous because I'm a dragon slayer, you know you couldn't beat me in a fight!" Dayton said brashly, prompting a really annoyed stare from Kyousuke. Roxanne also got annoyed though, having already dealt with Dayton flaunting his title as some kind of status symbol. Both Natsu and Gajeel looked at Dayton in surprise.
"What, he's a Dragon Slayer too?! No way!" Natsu said slightly excited, prompting Dayton to put his hands on his hips and stand proudly, watching as Kyousuke rolled his eyes in disgust.
"That's right, I'm a Lava Dragon Slayer!" Dayton announced to the whole class, prompting more gossip among individuals. Gajeel didn't seem too impressed.
"Looks like we've got another lava brain to deal with," Gajeel said unimpressed, slightly annoying Dayton as Roxanne hit him in the arm in response.
"What the hell do you think you're doing saying things like that?! I thought we talked about you flaunting your status!" Roxanne said annoyed. Her comment was ignored though, just as Kyousuke got up from his desk and stood eye to eye with Dayton. He sent an intimidating, provocative glare right into his eyes.
"I wouldn't waste my time being jealous of a moron like you. You spend more time talking about it than actually fighting like one." Kyousuke said with disgust, only riling Dayton up as Natsu and Gajeel watched intensely. Dayton soon enough got fed up with Kyousuke's "crap".
"Since you're so freakin' confident, why don't we have a showdown tomorrow?! I'll beat you one on one, and you'll see how wrong you are!" Dayton yelled angrily. Kyousuke shot him a look of curiosity as Roxanne interrupted the two.
"Are you serious?! You don't seriously think you can just..." She said in a failed attempt to stop them.
"A showdown huh? Alright then." Kyousuke said calmly, preparing to leave the classroom. A shocked Roxanne and a surprised Natsu and Gajeel watched as Kyousuke turned around at the door and gave Dayton a menacing glare.
"I'm going to make you regret that decision," Kyousuke warned darkly, Dayton clenching his fists.
"We'll see about that, you just better know you're gonna lose!" Dayton declared pridefully. Kyousuke narrowed his eyes in response, sending him another glare before heading out of the classroom. He walked right past Erza without saying a word, taking off as Erza stood there in surprise. She had a concerned look on her face, wondering about Dayton's relationship with Kyousuke.
"Their relationship might mirror Natsu and Gajeel's, they're both at each other's teeth." She thought to herself, immediately seeing the connection. Putting that thought aside, she headed into the classroom and noticed a conversation immediately spark between Natsu and Dayton. Gajeel was lying against the wall, bored, unknowingly having Roxanne's attention as she stared at him for a bit. She wondered what he might be thinking of, seeing similarities between him and Kyousuke until she turned and looked at Erza. Her attention was diverted to Natsu and Dayton, the latter boasting about how he's going to win the fight.
"He's gonna wish he never picked a fight with me!" Dayton said cockily, causing the gossip to spread. Natsu got just as riled up as Dayton was as commotion ensued; people started to talk and pick winners already.
"OMG, they're gonna fight?!"
"Who's gonna win?"
"Dayton is totally gonna beat his ass. Have you seen his Lava Orb?"
"I'm betting on Kyousuke though. He looks strong to me, especially if Dayton is wagering a fight with him." people rambled on about. Erza, feeling the familiarity within the place, walked up to Roxanne, catching her attention in the process.
"It reminds me of my home," Erza told her. It made her reminisce fun times in her guild. Roxanne was cleaning up things and re-organizing Ms. Areca's desk as she responded.
"This must be normal for you then. They've never fought against each other before and they're pretty well known throughout the school, so it's no surprise really." Roxanne explained to Erza. Gajeel focused in on their conversation while lying against the wall, retaining it all as they went on.
"Is this other person strong?" Erza inquired curiously. Roxanne took a minute to think about how strong Kyousuke might be, but she came up with nothing. Her relationship with him was always distant.
"To be honest," she said calmly, "I don't know. No one's actually seen him fight before, and there have been some rumors going around that he's dangerous, so I don't know for sure."
"Dangerous?" Erza said surprised, Roxanne nodding in response. This made Gajeel think.
"I know how Dayton fights, he's not weak. He's reckless for sure, but he also acts on impulse. I've always gotten a dark vibe from Kyousuke, so I'm kind of worried something might happen. There's nothing I can really say about how this is going to go down." Roxanne further explained. She turned and looked at Dayton, who was still talking with Natsu about how he was going to beat Kyousuke. He kept throwing his fists in the air as Natsu watched him with gusto. A ton of commotion had risen just from this small feud alone, and there was absolutely nothing that could stop them from talking about it. Roxanne looked at the clock and noticed that the class period was about to end, looking back down to see everyone packing their bags and proceeding to leave. When the bell rang, the students all left and headed to other classes as Ms. Areca came into the classroom. Roxanne talked with Erza and Natsu really quick before taking off.
"Ms. Areca is understanding of what's going on. She can help you get used to the school layout and you can trust her. I have to head to class, so I'll see you again at lunch." Roxanne explained. Erza nodded in response.
"Will do. We'll meet up again soon." Erza explained, Roxanne agreeing as she took off with Dayton to the next class. Seeing Ms. Areca there, Erza has Natsu wait there with her as they go to talk to her about what's going on. Surprisingly enough, Gajeel was no longer there.
"What? Where's Gajeel?" Erza said startled, wondering where he went off to. Ms. Areca just stood there surprised, wondering the same thing as Natsu shrugged his shoulders. Ms. Areca decided to let it go, moving onto the current situation.
"Oh well, if need be he can always come back and I can explain the details." She stated, prompting them to move on. With that, Ms. Areca proceeded to explain the details to the two wizards.
After she finished, both Erza and Natsu left the classroom and headed down to the cafeteria; that's where they'll be staying for the rest of the day. If anything was surprising, it was how no one was overreacting. Then again, it's not like they're aliens or some unusual lifeform.
"Aww man. This sucks! Why can't we do something fun?!" Natsu said to himself, walking with his hands behind his head. He was upset because he didn't want to just sit there in the cafeteria the whole day. He needed some sort of action, like sparring off with someone.
"Oh well, we'll just have to deal with it," Erza said, holding money in the palm of her hand. Ms. Areca had given the two of them cash to buy themselves lunch, a nice treat of hospitality for the stranded mages. Erza started to wonder how much the cash was actually worth; they had a different currency so they didn't understand the difference between dollars and jewels. As the thought soon left her mind, the two eventually found themselves in the cafeteria. It was a big large room full of lunch tables and people doing whatever. "In two hours, they should be here to meet up with us," Erza told Natsu, who already was distracted by an appetizing sight. On the left side of the cafeteria were the lunch ladies and all the food you could buy, while on the right were the tables where you would eat your food and do whatever. There was a bunch of trash everywhere, left over by people too lazy to throw away their own waste. Erza was absolutely disgusted with it.
"Alright food, here we come!" Natsu shouted cheerfully, running over to stuff himself. Even if the food wasn't the greatest, he didn't care. He was just hungry. Erza, however, just stood there grossed out and disgusted with the amount of littering and messiness the student body displayed.
"What improper manners, how can someone just deal with this?!" She thought to herself angrily. She started to use her magic to requip into a cleaning outfit but suddenly stopped. She remembered that if she used her magic like that, it would draw too much attention. Being torn between such, she just stood there looking down at the ground in frustration and anxiety. "Why must this happen to me?!" She complained, unable to comprehend the trash and disgustingness that surrounded her.
As the day went on, everything seemed to be normal. While Erza and Natsu were still in the cafeteria doing their own thing, Gajeel was outside. He was laying against the wall of the school, observing his surroundings and taking note of what he saw in this strange world. The only that didn't change was the number of idiots that he would come across. One group, in particular, he saw a bunch of supposed "gang members" that happened to be walking through, smoking cigarettes and acting like "bad boys", or at least they thought.
"What do ya wanna do now bro?"
"What the freak do I know?! Shut up and we'll find somethin' to do." One of the guys said, having this sort of egotistic attitude that made him sound more idiotic. He was a tall and slightly muscular man with an ugly brown spiked haircut and extremely pale skin. He was extremely weak though, not to mention stupid, and was also considered extremely ugly by the school fashion club. He also wore a bunch of gold chains because "it was cool" and he was the cockiest person ever. Just watching him would make anyone feel sick to their stomach.
"What a bunch of idiots," Gajeel said to himself, purposely staring at the group with a disgusted expression. The tall guy turned and noticed Gajeel staring at them. Being the cocky dumbass that he was, he started to walk up to Gajeel to fight him. The ego was out of control.
"This dude says he wants to fight us." The cocky person announced to his little group, just as his friends started ranting on with him. He started walking up to Gajeel like he was some badass or something when it was just the opposite. Gajeel gained a wicked grin on his face, ready to take them on right then and there. If anything was going to make his day better, it was beating up a bunch of stupid chumps for entertainment. However, the circumstances suddenly changed when someone from earlier decided to return.
"Oh, it's you dumbasses, again." Someone said mockingly. Gajeel looked past the idiots to realize it was none other than Kyousuke, losing his grin and just watching from where he was at. He watched as the group turned to face Kyousuke, getting disgusted expressions on their faces. The cocky guy suddenly got angry and tried to get all up in Kyousuke's face.
"You again?!" The cocky one said brashly, being angry at him for something he did in the past, "You think you're better than me or something?"
"I know that I'm better than you; you're too stupid to even know what magic is." Kyousuke pointed out. The other two started to laugh, only to stop so they didn't make the cocky guy angry. "Maybe if you didn't act on your idiocy all the time people would give you the time of day," Kyousuke suggested rudely. He began walking past them to continue on with his day, only to be stopped by some kind of proclamation.
"Yeah, whatever. I don't need that magic crap to beat you." The cocky one declared with a cocky attitude. His pals started ranting on with him, and Kyousuke suddenly halted upon hearing this. His expression turned from annoyed to being intrigued, looking around before turning around and facing the guy. The cocky one gained a grin on his face, ready to take Kyousuke out with pride. In that moment, Kyousuke shot them a menacing glare, scaring them, except for the cocky one. He then grew a smirk on his face in response.
"Really?" he said darkly, "Try me." With that he attacked the group, approaching the group rather quickly as they all tried to hit him. They tried, but they failed. Kyousuke punched one of them in the stomach, causing him to fall. The other guy tried to use that to his advantage by attempting an uppercut, but his attack was blocked and Kyousuke elbowed him in the stomach. He starts stumbling back in pain, holding onto his stomach as Kyousuke followed up to a punch in the face. The impact was so powerful that he tripped and found his face slammed into the ground, scraping himself and leaving a small streak of blood. Seeing his two buddies taken out already, the cocky guy began to fear Kyousuke, not realizing how battle-thirsty Kyousuke actually was. Gajeel was watching them with excitement, though it was tough to tell. The thirst for battle in him started to boil, and he could instantly tell that Kyousuke shared the same thirst for battle that he did. Kyousuke approached the cocky guy with a daunting expression on his face, just as the guy started to back away in fear. "Guess what," Kyousuke said dauntingly, "I didn't even have to use magic."
"C'mon man, I don't want any trouble now..." The cocky guy pleaded, "Just let me be and I won't mess with ya anymore."
"Last time you said that and now look where we are. You clearly don't listen." Kyousuke said darkly, looking down at the ground so that the cocky male couldn't see his eyes. The cocky male continued to back away, about to run off until Kyousuke grabbed his shirt and pulled him up to his face. He stared right into the guy's eyes, getting a taste of Kyousuke's darkness. Kyousuke's eyes shined a bright electric-blue with piercing, snake-like pupils.
"Next time, don't be a bunch of dumbasses like you always are and maybe it won't happen again!" Kyousuke yelled into the guy's face. He was shaking, more so at the sight of Kyousuke's eyes.
"What the...what the hell's up with your eyes man?" The male said in shock, shaking in fear as Kyousuke dropped the guy. The guy hit the ground hard, and he scrambled to his feet like a cat scarred for life. He ran away right in that instant, Kyousuke staring him down the whole time and making sure they left. They eventually were gone, and all who were left was Kyousuke himself and Gajeel spectating from afar. That response caught Gajeel's attention, losing his grin in the process and making him once again. Gajeel kept his eyes on Kyousuke, who in turn, turned around and saw Gajeel. They both made eye contact as some sudden, strange emotion was inflicted into the two while they just stood there, staring at each other without a word. It was this strange sense of familiarity, something Kyousuke never felt before. The thought of experiencing something like this with someone shocked Kyousuke, causing him to look away and take off. putting in a pair of earbuds and turning up the volume to put himself at ease. That feeling didn't sit right with him somehow, it just didn't make sense to him. Gajeel continued to stare at him as he walked off, obviously because he was curious. Kyousuke intrigued him, and it was for the same reason.
"There's something that kid is hiding from everyone, I can tell," Gajeel said to himself. Just by watching he could tell right off the bat that Kyousuke wasn't like the others, there was something that made him stand apart. Just off of that alone, Gajeel knew he was someone who was going to prove important in one way or another. "Well, he's not a moron like the rest," Gajeel said with enjoyment. "This is gonna be fun." He thought to himself, remembering that a certain, special fight was taking place tomorrow. He wasn't going to miss this. Gajeel then decided to leave and head for the school cafeteria. Before he started to head back though, he suddenly heard the bell ring, watching as a bunch of people were heading home. It turned out that school was over for the day. He decided to stay put and watch the annoying people leave the school, not being long until he spotted Erza and Roxanne together, along with Dayton and Natsu behind the two. They were heading for their homes, for Erza was going to stay with Roxanne and Natsu was going to stay with Dayton. They didn't seem to mind, however. It was a wild day already, and it wasn't over. This was just the beginning.
