Chapter 2 - Arrival-

Can a Guardian Angel be killed?

Killua stood motionlessly at the castle gate. He glared at a string of princesses, all dressing in their finest, getting off their carriages gracefully. Killua huffed. No. Simply ending the angel would not be enough. Killua gritted his teeth as he thought of tearing the limbs of that baka substitute angel, hanging him from the top of the gate, letting the bats feast on his blood, before setting a thousand rats on his bare body and then…

"Move brat, before I break your neck."

Killua eyed coldly at the menacing guard before him.

"Easy, partner, he is just a kid". The other guard laughed. He dropped down, making eye contact with the oddly calm kid. A sense of unease suddenly swept over him. The old guard coughed, willing the unpleasant feelings to go away. "Look, this is reserved for the princesses who are invited to the party." The guard made a motion to the side. "Why don't you go and play somewhere else?"

Killua smirked, considering whether to strike the rude or the condescending one first. Like a snake focusing on its prey, the deadly pause was only the precursor of what is to come. Killua's nails extended in the shadow. As he tensed his muscle, preparing to go for the easy picking, he was suddenly slammed on the side. Losing his balance, he landed unceremoniously on the ground, baffled.

"Wow.. I am sorry!" A boyish voice immediately followed.

Killua looked up, taking in a black-spiked hair boy in his view. Killua tensed. How Killua could not hear this boy's footsteps bothered him. Even when the boy was standing so close to him, Killua could barely sense his presence. An enemy? An assassin? Is it Illumi? Killua shuddered.

"Here you go." The black haired boy pulled him up easily. He smiled innocently at him, eyes twinkled with brightness. Oblivious to the fighting instinct stirring within Killua, the cheerful offender then turned to the guards. "Sorry my friend is blocking the entrance. We will be out of your way now."

"You are lucky, kid." The first guard spat. "I am in a good mood, so get lost." He waved his hands impatiently.

Before Killua could say anything or process his thoughts, he found himself dragged away by the stranger boy into the nearby woods.

"Who are you?" Killua asked coldly. Stupid. It could not be Illumi. He is much too short for his brother. The blue-eyed boy willed the mental image of his brother to dissipate. Killua looked around in the woods and immediately found several good spots to bury the kid. He smirked. No one would ever know his mishap.

"Me? I am Gon. I am sorry to bump into you. I just don't want to see blood spill at the castle entrance."

Killua paused briefly before he chuckled. "I don't need help." On a normal day, Killua would have ended this pathetic life. But the thought of him being treated like a damsel in distress amused him.

"I know you don't need help." Gon agreed pleasantly. "I meant the guards." He hopped a couple steps toward Killua, his nose barely an inch away from the silver-haired boy. With a big broad smile, Gon then reached out and latched onto Killua's hands.

It happened so fast, even Killua was taken back.

Ignoring Killua's shock, Gon thoroughly examined Killua's pale hands, looking up and down as if inspecting a fine china. "Wow, did the nails really retract?" He touched Killua's fingers and nails with fascination. "How did you do that?"

Part of Killua registered the warmth of Gon's hands and was reluctantly addicted. "You saw that?" Killua absent-mindedly asked the obvious question, as the other part of his brain was preoccupied by the fact that Gon was not at all scared of his abnormality. What an odd boy.

"Sure. But only…." Gon suddenly clasped his hands together, encapsulating Killua's hand easily. The brown eyes met the blue boldly. "… but only after I smelled the scent of blood from you first. That's how I noticed your nails and the impending danger the guards are in. So I had to intervene. Anyhow.. are you here to see the princesses?" He flaunted his smile again, linking the two unrelated subjects in one breath.

The shock of hearing Gon's explanation was quickly replaced by rage. Killua violently threw aside Gon's hands. "So.. it is a PRINCE who is looking for a bride to marry and not the other way around?" The words were simmered with venom.

Gon confirmed, with a nod. Instead of fear, a hint of apology was reflected off his big brown eyes.

"That damn, useless angel…."

"Angel? "

Killua ignored him. "Now I truly have nowhere to go." Killua bent to pick up his skateboard.

Gon perked up. His mouth opened before he caught himself. "I am looking for my father. Would you like to come with me?" The words flew out just a little bit too rushed.

Killua eyed at the boy, wondering if he was clever or stupid. He could see the nervousness but wasn't sure exactly what the cause. "I was hoping to marry a princess so I have a place to go or something to do." He shrugged, throwing his hands in the air carelessly. "Now I have nowhere to go, nothing to do, I guess I could tag along to pass some time." He spun the skateboard carelessly. "Where to now?" For now, this boy could entertain him.

A wide smile spread across Gon's face. He eagerly latched onto Killua's arms again, happily noticing that Killua did not jerk away this time. "This way." He purred.

Contrasting with the arrival of the guests in the grand ballroom, the throne room was eerily quiet.

"We cannot find him." A guard timidly reported. With his head bowed, he never made any eye contact with the blond boy sitting at the throne.

For everyone in the kingdom knows, no one ever comes out alive witnessing the crimson eyes of the infamous Prince Kurapika.

^_^ This is crazy. Who would update in 10 years? Actually, who knew Hunter x Hunter would still be "on air". Anyhow, review/comments are welcomed as usual. I do notice that the tone of chapter two is considerably heavier than the first chapter… I guess this is due to age… anyhow, if you enjoyed this update, please thank zozikoozy, who dropped me a PM few months ago and GENTLY reminded that I have not updated this story for the last 10 years… ^_^;;; Sorry, I have not checked my fanfiction account at all… so thank you for giving me the motivation to finish what I started.
