Chapter 2-The Beach

It was an absolutely majestic morning, the sun was shinning, the birds were chirping, and an anguish scream of pain echoed in the morning air. Aichi twitched in her messy covers, tangled and hair sticking up in all directions.

"Good morning onii-chan." Emi chirped, and Aichi glared at her through blue strands.

A stun. Where did Emi get the thing anyways?

"Go away." Aichi muttered, pulling the covers over her head. "It's Saturday; leave me be."

"Mou~" Emi whined, discretely hiding the weapon at the same time.

"But were going to the beach!"

Aichi's blue mane nearly shot up. "T-The beach…?... THE BEACH? When… When was this?!"

"Ah… mom told me to tell you…" a small cat-like grin spread across her face. "I guess it slipped my mind." Aichi twitched. Her sister, an angel? She might as well be a devil in disguise for all she was.

"O-Okaa-san."

"Yes?"

"…Can't I just wear-"

"No." the older woman smiled. "Absolutely not."

"But-" Aichi got cut off again as his mother huffed.

"No dear, you'll have to wear that, not a shirt; otherwise your chest will be seen. It's not like you'll stay flat chested forever."

"You didn't have to put it that way…"

'Why? Why this?' Aichi mentally sighed.

-Flashback-

Aichi stared at Emi, then at the clothes shoved in her hands, then Emi again. If this was a dream, please anyone… let her wake up from this horrible nightmare.

"…Why?" Emi smiled as Aichi placed the white summer dress, wig and hat on the kitchen table.

"You have to wear it." Cue the bluenette proceeding to choke on the water she was drinking.

"Wha-why?!"

"Because girls aren't allowed to wear trunks." Emi replied knowingly.

"But my classmates! They'll find out!"

"What are hats and sunglasses for?"

Aichi stared at her, and then sighed. "Fine." She said, resigning herself to her fate. She just hoped nobody found out she was a girl.

-End of Flashback-

And thus, Aichi stood there stuck in a white sundress and wig, with Emi cooing over her. "So cute~" she chirped, making Aichi flush in embarrassment.

-Meanwhile-

"Remind me why I'm in a beach spending my time with you?"

"That has to be the longest sentence you've said all day."

Miwa could have sworn that he felt a menacing glare that was being directed to him. Well, it can't be helped; after all he wasn't the one who dragged the poor sap from his humble apartment. It was technically his parents' persuasion and of course Kai wouldn't dare to refuse his parents kind offer, right? He almost laughed at the thought but prevented himself from doing it. He didn't want to further angry his friend for Pete sake.

"And because my parents 'invited' you, so you've 'begrudgingly' accepted the ever so-kind offer."

He grinned at his friend's complaint as he scratched his cheek rather sheepishly. Kai stared at the grinning blonde wondering if he could throw the blonde at the sea so he would either drown or be eaten by sharks or just plainly smacking his thick skull would do. The latter it is, he still has his conscience mind you, within a few seconds; he smacked the back of the blonde's head, making the other scream in pain.

"Geez Kai, you didn't have to hit me that hard." Miwa rubbed his aching head. He attempted to glare at the brunet but failed as it became a small pout.

"That's for making me come with you." Kai deadpanned.

"Hai Hai…"

After a short while, the two managed to find a shaded area. Later, they settled on an empty table with two seats.

"I'll be buying some refreshments. Wait for me here."

With a quick nod, Miwa bid his farewell as he left. The beach was packed with people as it was Sunday. Numerous sales from the stores surrounded the beach in an attempt to draw out customers. It was a busy day for the vendors and also a packed day for the visitors.

"Shish kabobs! Get you shish kabobs here!"

"Who wants some squid on a stick?!"

The brunet decided to ignore the commotion, (considering he wasn't in the mood for it to call the distraction as an entertainment. He was still annoyed or more like downright … well, you get the point thank you very much.) Taking a peek from a distance, his eyes sweeping the faces of the many customers; he spotted a petite young girl coming out from the bathroom. He was about to shift his gaze when the person's figure seemed all too familiar to him.

A light breeze gently swept through her face making her long wavy blue locks flutter. Her white summer dress shone bright under the rays of the sun. She tucked the loose strands of her hair behind her ear and with innocent beautiful blue eyes, she looked absolutely… beautiful. For the first time on his life, Toshiki Kai was dumbfounde`d as he found no words coming out from his mouth. He could only gape at the sight.

"Ai… chi…?"

The brunet's thoughts were momentarily interrupted when he heard a distant calling.

"Aichi-kun!"

"I'm coming mom."

The girl passed by Kai and for a brief moment their eyes met but the other soon averted his gaze, his cheeks slowly turning pink. When the bluenette was no longer in sight, Kai stared into space. Distracted by his thoughts, he didn't notice Miwa approaching him.

"Hey Kai, I bought the refreshments." Miwa tapped the brunet's shoulder.

"…Kai?"

"…"

Miwa frowned, worry etched on his face. He snapped his fingers and waved a hand at Kai's face.

"What are you spacing out for?"

"… Oh Miwa… No, it's nothing." Kai shrugged.

"Did something happen while I was away?" Miwa asked. He narrowed his yellow orbs as his lips formed into a thin line. The brunet immediately took noticed of it and simply raises a brow as he kept his mouth shut.

"…"

"Okay, I'll take that as a no." The blonde sighed in defeat. He shook his head and made a wry smile. He knew that it was best not to pry on others especially his friend. If this was Kai's decision he will always support it. What good can a person will do if he pries too much but will not give/help something in return? That would be utterly stupid. He threw the refreshment he had been holding as Kai caught it effortlessly. Kai opened the can and took a sip. Nothing beats the heat when you have a cold drink. Submerged in his deep thoughts, he silently wondered if the event that took place a while ago was probably his imagination.

'Could that really be…? No, impossible…' The corner of his lips twitched slightly, barely noticeable but good enough for the blonde to catch. He raised his brow.

"What are you smiling for?"

"None of your business."

"If you say so…" Miwa trailed off, though he felt the faintest of smiles forming on the corners of his mouth.

'I'll find it out sooner or later.'
