44. Aberration (N.) Deviation from a right, customary, or prescribed course
Haru's decision to join the mafia could be considered a slight aberration from her family's traditional career path. With luck, her parents would never find out.
45. Abstruse (adj.) Hard to understand, esoteric
He preferred to remain abstruse, arcane, more of an enigma than a person. She preferred to make him not so.
46. Accede (v.) to give consent, approval, or adherence
After countless journeys to Lambo's closet and back, ravaging his already-messy room in the process, Haru finally acceded. The teenage boy nearly jumped up with relief, dashing away as not to be late to his first date with I-pin.
47. Adamant (adj.) Any substance of exceeding hardness or impenetrability
This time, Kyoko was adamant. Right or not, Kyoko refused to let her drunken best friend tell the newly-named Decimo that half his guardians and allied famiglia members were lusting after him.
48. Antiquate (V.) to make old or out of date
The rate at which fashion became antiquated was exceedingly quick, as Haru found out on her first day of costume design class. Her "contemporary" sketches were already last week's news.
49. Conspicuous (v.) clearly visible
In her leather trench coat and sunglasses (in the middle of summer, no less), Haru was more conspicuous than ever as she trailed Fuuta on his first date.
50. Dogmatic (adj.) Asserting opinions in a doctrinaire or arrogant manner; opinionated
While his dogmatic assertions at the School Festival Committee meeting earned him scathing looks from others, Haru took a more direct approach by outright reproaching him.
51. Enigma (n.) A puzzling or inexplicable occurrence or situation
The origin of the flames, as well as the seven species that later guarded them, may remain an eternal enigma. But as long as aficionados for the unknown like Verde and Gokudera stayed around, it wouldn't be forever...
52. Esoteric (adj.) understood by or meant for only the select few who have special knowledge or interest
Sewing was an esoteric art; the hidden meanings of each stitch, the emotions of the user weaved in with every thread-it took a certain mind to understand that.
53. Evanescent (adj.) Vanishing; fading away; fleeting
Haru was evanescent, losing a piece of herself with each battle, each scar, and each casualty...
54. Exacerbate (v) to make more sharp, severe, or virulent
For all her love of children, even Haru could grow exacerbated when pushed past her limits.
55. Exemplary (adj.) fitted to serve as a model or example worthy of imitation
Kyoko had always been the exemplary one, ever since their days of middle school in Namimori. Haru loved her friend dearly, it was true, but every now and then she couldn't help but be slightly jealous of everything Kyoko had and everything she lacked.
56. Gregarious (adj.) Not habitually solitary or living alone
Unlike him, she couldn't stand to be alone. Gregarious creature that she was, she often ended up dragging him along on her daily errands and visits.
57. Hegemony (n.) leadership or predominant influence exercised by one nation over others
Hibari could be said to have a hegemony over the students of Nami Chuu, but he himself was unconsciously under the hegemony of a certain student from Midori...
58. Inane (adj). Silly
Her inane trust in others made him scoff, but secretly he vowed to protect that innocence.
59. Meticulous (adj.) overcautious
He was meticulous in everything from planning get-togethers to schoolwork;she was only meticulous when it came to him.
60. Objective (adj.) Not influenced by personal feelings, interpretations, or prejudice;unbiased
In Haru's calm, objective opinion, the Vongola were clearly the best family in the world.
61. Penitence (n.) sorrow for sin with desire to amend and to atone
There was nothing for which Haru had more penitence for than Tsuna's death.
62. Quixotic (adj.) Extravagantly chivalrous or romantic; impractical
Years later, Haru realized that quixotic gestures and fairy tale proposals weren't what made someone fall in love with you; being herself was more than enough.
63. Torpor (n.) Sluggish inactivity or inertia; lethargic indifference
Haru rarely found herself in such a torpor, yet with the hot sun beating down on her sweltering body, she couldn't motivate herself to get up.
64. Trepidation (n.) Tremulous fear, alarm, or agitation
Tsuna-san's trepidation upon entering the haunted house was apparent to all around them; this time, he and Haru watched as fearless Kyoko-chan led the way.
65. Vitriolic (adj.) Very caustic; scathing
She could normally brush off his vitriolic invectives, but this one stung more than she was willing to admit. "Go away, you're not needed."
66. Abdicate (v.) to renounce or relinquish a throne, right, power, claim, responsibility or the like, especially in a formal manner.
Haru wasn't the one for him. She had long since known that, but it had taken years of watching the romance between Tsuna and Kyoko grow before she was willing to abdicate her wish.
67. Acrimonious (adj.) caustic, stinging or bitter in nature, speech, or behavior
Acrimonious insults punctuated their arguments as usual, to the point where Haru was forced to wrack her mind to produce insults that had not yet been spat.
68. Absolve (v.) to free from guilt or blame or their consequences
A surprisingly gentle hand landed on her head, ruffling the silky brown strands of hair. "It's not your fault. No one blames you, so stop worrying about it." No matter how many times the words resounded in her mind, Haru could not be absolved.
67. Capricious (adj). subject to, led by, or indicative of caprice or whim; erratic
They say pregnancy brings out the best in a woman, that a mother fairly glows with contentment at the future role she shall play. That may have applied for Kyoko, but Haru morphed into a capricious, constantly-hungry whale of a monster as soon as she hit the second trimester.
68. Circuitous (adj.) roundabout; not direct
"I asked you a question, herbivore." Her back hit the wall, effectively trapping her for the carnivore to devour. She should have known better than to give such circuitous answers.
69. Convalescence (n.) the gradual recovery of health and strength after illness
Her convalescence was far from speedy, but her friends were there with her every step of the way.
70. Erudite (adj.) characterized by great knowledge; learned or scholarly
Haru's now-wrinkled fingers grasped those of the to-be boss, reminding her of another nervous 14-year old she had known. Though one of her age was often hailed as erudite, in reality she had simply learned the ways of the world-and right now, the world was calling upon her to reassure the granddaughter of a boy she had once loved.
71. Iconoclast (n.) a breaker or destroyer of images, cherished beliefs, or traditional institutions
No...he wouldn't. The brunette's hand tightened protectively around the smaller one of her godson, ready to whisk him away the moment his tiny ears heard the words Gokudera the iconoclast was about to utter:
"Santa isn't real."
72. Laconic (adj.) Concise; using few words
The years had not turned her laconic, and an elderly Haru continued to babble and gossip the days away.
73. Pejorative (adj.) having a disparaging, derogatory, or belittling effect or force.
If there is one thing Haru cannot stand, it is being spoken to in a pejorative, condescending manner.
74. Sophomoric (adj.) intellectually pretentious, overconfident, conceited, but immature
She loved children dearly, it was true, but their sophomoric phases warranted some old-fashioned disciplining.
75. Fulsome (adj.) Offensive to good taste, especially as being excessive, overdone, or insincerely lavish
Fulsome heaps of fake velvet dotted the room, their garishly bright colors stinging Haru's unadjusted eyes. But with Fuuta-chan looking so eager to make his own Halloween costume, she didn't have the heart to express her disgust.
76. Squalid (adj.) Foul and repulsive, as from lack of care or cleanliness; neglected and filthy
The back alleys of Southern Italy were squalid to say the least, but Haru could scarcely bring herself to notice as she held the wounded Guardian in her arms.
77. Cogent (adj.) Convincing or believable by virtue of forcible, clear, or incisive presentation.
Her ideas were perhaps not the most cogently presented, but the sheer emotion Haru poured into her speech hung heavy in the air like vapor after a storm.
78. Circumscribe (v.) To encircle, limit or confine, to mark off.
The house was clearly circumscribed into sections; the kitchen was hers, the living room his. She reigned the parlor while he meticulously watched over the back porch. Only the bedroom remained untouched by this marking of territory.
79. Retrograde (adj.) (v.) moving backward, retiring or retreating, inverse or reversed in order.
She had always been one to prefer retrograde fashions, so it should have come as no surprise when she showed up in a curled wig and corset.
80. Serendipitous (adj.) Come upon or found by accident, fortuitous, beneficial.
As raindrops began to stud the roof of her umbrella, Haru remained blissfully unaware of the serendipitous turn her life was to take.
'Excuse me? I forgot my umbrella today and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing with me?'
81. Populist (adj.) (n.) Appealing to the interests or prejudices of ordinary people
Populism vs. Progressivism, Liberal vs. Conservative, it all flew over her head. Why was politics so complicated? Couldn't people simply get along and work together for the good of others? Haru didn't see why all these different idealogical groups were necessary.
82. Partisan (adj.) (n.) an adherent or supporter of a person, group, party, or cause, especially a person who shows a biased, emotional allegiance
Partisan divides could be hard to overcome (her to lace and he to silk), but the betrothed managed to complete the difficult task of picking wedding tablecloth embellishments with minor concessions to both sides.
83. Naysayer (n.) a person who habitually expresses negative or pessimistic views
Ever the optimist, Haru possessed the unique ability to coax a smile onto the face of even the most cynical naysayer.
84. Bungler (v.) (n.) To do clumsily, awkwardly, or inadequately; to botch
From the beginning Haru never saw the so-called bungler in Tsuna-san that every one else claimed to. What could the boy who so courageously rescued her not be completely amazing at?
85. Salient (adj.) prominent or conspicuous
It didn't take long for the Vongola to notice the salient cropped locks of their resident costume-maker-and that had been her intention.
86. Philanthropic (adj.) Showing concern for humanity, especially by performing charitable actions; benevolent
Mafiosos being philanthropic? A sweet, sweet lie Haru told herself every night before bed. Still, she could not repress the small glow alit within her every time she visited a nearby orphanage...
