Danny screamed as energy poured through him. He felt like he was dying, as he was getting zapped by the portal. Where were his fainting spells when Danny needed them? He was crying and screaming, even after he had used up all his breath and tears. He wanted the pain to be over. Why wasn't it ending? Danny didn't know what he did wrong.
Then he heard someone else screaming. Someone was yelling his name. Wait, he knew that voice. His mom was calling his name. She sounded scared, worried, and hurt. No one should ever be hurting, Danny didn't want anyone to be hurt ever again. He didn't think anyone should go through this pain. Then he felt a tug on his body.
Danny heard his mom's fuzzy voice call a summons out in a panic. Danny weakly opened his eyes to see the basement on fire. Danny's eyes widen. Then he spots his mom crying. He flings his arms around her, and she lets out a gasp. "Danny!" She cries and wraps her arms tightly around her son. Jack storms back down the stairs with a bucket filled with water, and almost drops it when he spots his son.
"Danny," Jack whispers in relief as tears roll down his cheeks. He shakes his head and quickly puts out the fire. Once Jack is sure it is out, he rushes over to his wife and son. He wraps them both up in a hug. When the two adults calm down, they pull their son away to look him over. His raven hair is now as white as snow, and his toxic green eyes are now glowing an icy blue. His usual outfit is now exchanged for a black suit with white accents, white gloves, and white boots.
Danny felt fine now, as he looked at his parents' worried faces. In fact, he felt better than he had for a long while. Then Danny's vision tilted, as his body coiled in pain. Danny fell forwards into his parents' arms and passed out. His parents let out a surprised gasp as he fainted in their arms. Then a white light erupted around his body and moved up it. Jack and Maddie watched in amazement, as their son's clothing and hair went back to normal. Jack picked his son up and carried him to bed, with his wife following behind him.
After Danny was safely tucked into bed, the two adults went into their room and hugged each other. "Jack, I had to summon him! I had to summon him like all my other spirits! He has a key now, Jack! I know he does!" Maddie cried into her husband's chest. Jack rubbed her back as he tried to calm her.
"It'll be okay, honey. We will just have to be the first ones to find Danny's key is all," Jack whispered, trying to comfort his wife. Maddie nodded and snuggled deeper into her husband. Jack looked at a picture on the nightstand. The four family members were smiling happily. Danny was tugging on Jazz's dress and pointing to something off screen. Maddie was clutching a key in one hand, while the other rested on top of Danny's head. Jack had wrapped his arm around Maddie, and on the other arm, he carried a picnic basket. When had things changed so drastically? Jack just wanted to go back in time to when that picture was taken.
Danny woke up in bed. He rushed over to Jazz's room, intent on getting her to play with him. "Danny, go eat," Jazz wined as she hid under her pillow. Danny had been full of energy ever since the accident last year. The accident, it had caused their parents to change. They started to get stricter with both safety precautions and teaching the two about spirits and self-defense. Aside from that, kind of the two seemed to be hiding something. Sometimes Maddie would leave for weeks at a time, only to come back exhausted and sad.
Danny thought his mom should stop leaving them if it wasn't making her happy, but she would get antsy if she stayed home too long. Jack, on the other hand, kept checking on Danny and asking weird questions. Danny sighed as he crept closer to Jazz's bed. Jazz was the only one still acting normal, and even she would be strange at times. Danny didn't dare tell her this, but Jazz has been off lately. Her moods could swing from happy to angry in three seconds flat. Dad had told Danny that it was because Jazz was growing. Danny found that hard to believe, as he has been growing too, in fact, he had gotten two inches taller, and he wasn't moody.
"Come on Jazz! We have a whole day ahead of us! What game do you want to play? We could play spirit, ghost getters, or spooks on you?" Danny begged as he tugged on his sister's arm. Jazz let out a groan and sat up. She glared at her brother, but all he did was blow a raspberry at her. Jazz frowned. She, herself, was worried about Danny. He seemed fine, but she remembered Danny seemed fine before he had gotten sick last time. She had started to read medical books, anything that could eventually help her brother. Jazz learned to read his emotions and facial cues to find out if he was in pain. She would watch his chest to make sure his breathing was fine. Jazz sometimes would even hug him for no reason just to check on his heartbeat.
"Fine, but only after we eat!" Jazz conceded. Danny cheered and danced around Jazz's room before attacking Jazz with a hug. One of her hand's pressed against his heart, while the other arm wrapped around him tight. Danny smiled, Jazz seemed to have switched into a better mood already.
Danny and jazz rushed down the stairs to the smell of freshly baked toast, and Danny's stomach turns over. Danny nearly goes green, and Jazz looks over at her brother with sad and understanding eyes. Jack is humming by the stove when banging can be heard from the front door. Jack frowns as he turns off the stove. He sends a look over to Jazz as he picks up a weird gun from who knows where and heads to the door.
"Open up Fenton!" An unknown voice orders. Jack looks through the peephole and winces. Danny tenses and Jazz pulls him into the basement. Danny stumbles down the stairs with only Jazz being the reason he didn't fall. She is looking around desperately trying to find something when Danny feels something yanking him. Danny looks around, but no one is here except the two of him. Danny shrugs. He runs over to Jazz and grabs her hand. Jazz looks at him with questioning eyes.
Danny feels weird; in fact, he felt like he did after the accident. "Jazz, I think a ghost is pulling me," Danny whispers, as he looks about scared. Jazz is looking him over with worried eyes. Danny's eyes are dilated and glowing; in fact, there is a hazy glow around all of Danny. Jazz notices the uneven rise in his chest as he breathes. Jazz doesn't understand. Yet, Jazz is smart. She has studied lots of books. Danny is healthy; nothing is physically wrong with him. He may be having a small freak out, but that is normal in their situation. Why is he glowing, though?
Then it clicks. Jazz's eyes widen. Mom and Dad had been training Danny way harder than her. They tried to make sure information that seemed irrelevant to anyone but spirits were tucked away in his head. The way he suddenly got better after the spirit portal stopped working. Mom telling them that they were both equal no matter what. Dad telling her to always look after Danny, and to keep him out of sight of mages. Danny getting sick for no reason. Danny was a spirit, and he was getting summoned.
Jazz grabbed onto Danny's hands and looked him in the eyes. She flinched as noise from above drifted down to them. "Danny, remember mom's lessons. You need to remember everything, okay?" Jazz informed her brother. Danny was staring at her with wide eyes as he nodded. He was starting to disappear from her sight, so Jazz needs to move fast. She planted a kiss quickly on his forehead. "I love you Danny, and make sure you are careful with contracts," Jazz added as she took a step back.
The door to the basement banged open, and Jazz smiled. Danny had just entirely faded out of view, and a white light had flashed afterwards, from where he had stood. She ran into the cleaning cabinet and thanked all the stars that Danny was being summoned away from this situation. She closed the door just as feet were stomping down the steps. "I know they've got a monster in this house! I saw its glowing eyes staring out the window at me!" A female voice shrieked. Jazz could see a fire glowing from the crack in the door. She closed her eyes and prayed to the stars some more.
"… I open thee! Epsilon Aurigae!" A voice yelled. Danny blinked his eyes at the change of scenery and dizzy feeling. Then he saw something moving towards him and like any smart person he dodged. "What do you think you're doing!" the voice screeched again, "Do your job and protect me, spirit! I'll work out your contract later!"
Danny frowned. What was this person talking about? He wasn't a spirit! Then everything that Jazz said rings through his head, along with the fact that he just got teleported to some random place and hearing the tail end of a summons. Danny gulped, an iron arm flew towards him again. He was just scolded at for dodging, so he had to take the hit. Danny braced himself and then felt the impact.
Danny crashed into a tree. "Pathetic," the man made out of iron stated. Danny had to agree, whoever had yelled at him should have been able to dodge too. "I can't believe you were bragging about this spirit; he's a weakling," The iron man grumbled in annoyance. Danny glared, it wasn't his fault that Danny had no clue what was happening. If he was a spirit, though, he had to be able to do something. Danny closed his eyes and felt that cold tingle he always felt when around keys. Danny grabbed at it, but nothing seemed to have happened. "Got rid of it already, huh?" Ironman asked.
The celestial spirit mage looked around with wide eyes. He hadn't, and the spirit shouldn't have disappeared already. Luigi growled as he clutched the green key in his hand. He had already used all his other keys. This was his last resort! Why did this one of a kind key give him such a weak spirit? He should have realized this when he hardly felt any magic leave him.
Gajeel was a stronger opponent then Luigi had thought he would be. He was just a teen that just started being a mage at Phantom Lord. Luigi didn't understand how this guy had gotten so strong so fast. Gajeel was throwing an iron-fisted punch at him again. Luke froze, he had no clue what to do. Suddenly an invisible force knocked into him. "What kind of idiot are you? You need to dodge!" The new spirit scolded as he faded into sight.
Danny frowned at his "master" and looked over at Gajeel who was watching him with curious eyes. He hadn't agreed to anything, so why can't he just go back home! Danny growled as Gajeel went and turned his arm into a blade. The sword was moving towards them, and Luigi was not moving again. Danny couldn't lift a man probably ten years older than him. Danny placed a hand on the mage and grasped that cold feeling again, which was easier with those keys close by. "Hey! Let go of me you spirit!" Luigi yelled in disgust.
The sword came rushing down just as Luigi pulled away. "Idiot!" Danny shouted still reaching outwards. The sword went clean through him like he wasn't there and sliced right into Luigi's left leg. Gajeel laughed at his prey that had actually gone against the spirit he had called. "You idiot! Why did you pull away?" Danny asked. He looked over the man's wound, it looked terrible.
Luigi was shivering and crying in pain. "What did you do spirit? You are supposed to shield me!" Luigi screamed in anger. Danny looked at the man in complete disbelief. Then Danny stood up in rage and growled. Gajeel took a step back in slight surprise but then grinned at the interesting entertainment.
"I am not YOUR shield! Spooks, I'm not even your spirit! You just randomly call me here, when I'm in the middle of something else by the way, and then started yelling at me. Don't think I have to do anything for you. You may own my key right now, but my mom told me the rules, and I don't have to do anything until a contract is made. I am obliged to come when you call, and that is it!" Danny exclaimed in an angry huff. His eyes were glowing brightly, and a white light was surrounding his body.
Luigi gulped and lifted up the green key in his hand. It had the picture of a disc-like-shape overlapping a star. It shook in his hand, but Luigi shouts anyways, "Close gate of the..." the world fades around Danny, and suddenly he finds himself transported to another strange location. A gasp escapes him, and Danny shivers hard. He watches his blue-tinted breath disappear, as he almost throws up.
