Part6: The Genin Exam!

Naruto is in a really serious bind at the moment.

One of the things his training manual taught him is to respect women. Of course he learned to respect them out of fear for his favorite food at the time. Later on he got a healthy respect for women, because his closest friends are all women. This in turn made him learn several valuable things most men never learn, which in turn would make him good boyfriend material later on in life.

Women hate perverts. If a man is caught peeping then he might as will give up his life.

Which brings us to the second thing he learned.

Women are scary when angered. Somehow they are able to increase their strength multifold while angry.

Women love to be pampered by men, but hate to be considered weak. He found this out by watching a man and woman on the street one day.

"Here you go Kurenai-chan." Asuma said while opening the door for her.

"Why thank you Asuma, you are so sweet." Kurenai said while giving him a smile and walking out the door.

"Shall I carry those heavy bags for you, Kurenai-chan?" Asuma asked while walking after her.

"No thanks, Asuma." the red-eyed woman said.

"Why not, Kurenai-chan? I can easily carry does heavy bags, while you might have some problems with them." Asuma said.

"Are you saying that I'm weak!" Kurenai said suddenly appearing very ticked off.

Without waiting for an answer she decked Asuma across the street.

Needless to say this encounter proved point two and three. Yes, Naruto learned a lot about women (when compared to most men, that is).

But never in his wildest dreams did he think up a scenario like this.

All he does is open his door for a classmate of his, says one sentence and poof instant unconscious girl.

Seeing no other option, he decides to make her as comfortable as possible.

Easily picking her up he makes his way to his bedroom and places her in his bed. Then he decides to get a glass of water for the obviously distraught girl, why else would she have fainted?

Innocent little Naruto has absolutely no idea what this all will do to the poor girl.

Slowly she makes her way back to the living world, only to find herself laying on something soft. Before she opened her eyes a sweet smell enters her nose. This strange but pleasant odor in combination with the soft bed brings her so much comfort, that she could just lay there all day.

Before she could get back to sleep and dream of a certain crush of hers, she hears footsteps approaching the bed she is currently laying in. Thinking it to be one of the branch members of her family, she waits for him or her to call for her.

Unfortunately for her, it isn't a member of her family that is approaching her. But it is still someone unbelievably familiar. "I hope she wakes up soon." she heard a familiar voice mumble.

Hoping against hope that what she thinks happened actually didn't happen, she opens her eyes and lays them to rest on a very familiar mop of blond spiky hair. Looking further down she sees a familiar pair of deep blue eyes and whisker shaped birthmarks.

Finally all of what happened that day came back to her. The standing at the door working up the courage to knock, the door getting opened in front of her nose, her crush looking at her. That coupled with the fact that the blond is currently looking her strait into the eyes caused her to become so mortally embarrassed, that the color she sported should have been made illegal. Finally she couldn't take it anymore. She lets out a quiet squeak and faints yet again.

'This girl is weird.' was the first thought that went to Naruto's head, when she fainted.

The second thought was 'Will she ever be awake long enough for me to talk to her.'

Of course Naruto knows the girl that is now laying on his bed. Not only is she from his class, but he could vaguely remember something about a kidnapping attempt a few years back. But whenever he approached her or even looked at her, she would turn red and look the other way. Him being the clueless guy he is, thinks that she can't stand the sight of him. Thus it came as a surprise when he found her to be the mysterious gift giver.

Before Naruto could think any further, he sees movement from the corner of his eye 'Finally she is coming to, again. Hopefully she wont faint this time and I can finally have some of my questions answered.'

Trying to make sure she stays conscious this time, he puts some distance between himself and the bed and says "There is a glass water for you on the side table."

Having opened her eyes she went for the glass at once and greedily drank from it.

Seeing that she finished he decided to get directly to the point "Now, I think it is time you answered some of my questions."

Having feared this but knowing it was coming, she steeled herself and asked "Wh-hat do-do y-you w-ant to kn-ow, N-naruto-kun?"

"Why were you at my door, I thought you hated me!" he said exasperated.

Quickly Hinata paled 'He thinks I hate him?' she thought 'Why does he think that! I lo-like him very much!'

She had to rid him of the notion that she hated him. So, overcoming her embarrassment for the sake of something more important, she said without stuttering "I don't hate you, Naruto-kun!"

"Then how come every time I look your way you turn red and look away from me?" Naruto asked sounding confused.

This caused Hinata's embarrassment to return immediately, quickly she came up with something "Uhm, th-hat's be-because I w-as ss-sick."

With a look of understanding Naruto said "So me looking at you makes you sick." seeing her nod franticly he continued "So if I never come near you again you won't get sick. Then I will have to do my best to stay out of your way!" he finally exclaims.

Seeing as that would be one of her most worse nightmares come true, you can excuse our sweet Hinata for her out of character moment. "NO!" she screamed.

"But you just said…" Naruto was about to say, when he was interrupted.

"Forget what I said!" Hinata said with an elevated voice "You should be as close to me at possible, as much as possible!"

Now it was Naruto's chance to stutter "O-okay." he said while thinking 'Angry women are scary.'

Having finally processed what she has just all but yelled at her crush, caused Hinata's embarrassment to return full force.

After a rather awkward silence Naruto decided to continue his questioning "So why were you at my door then?"

Sporting her ever present blush yet again she thinks 'It's now or never! I have to give Naruto his birthday present.' picking up a package from next to the bed, she practically shoves it right into his face while saying "U-hm, I g-got a bi-rthd-day pr-present for yo-ou N-naruto-k-kun."

Looking at her weirdly for a second. Naruto, after remembering his manners, just says "Thanks, Hinata-san!"

"Ano, y-you don't h-have to c-call me H-hinata-san, N-naruto-k-kun." Hinata said in barely a whisper.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on who you ask, Naruto heard her easily "Okay then, Hinata-chan."

'He speaks to me with a term of endearment, does this mean he likes me?' unfortunately her brain couldn't handle that thought and she passed out for the third time that day.

'She is really a weird girl.' Naruto said, watching her pass out yet again.

From that day on Naruto made friends with Hinata, making it one of the best days out of her live.

Unfortunately others weren't so happy!

'Why do I suddenly have the urge to show some Hyuuga what I can do with metal!' Tenten thought.

Temari suddenly looked up from writhing a letter "Why do I have a sudden urge to unleash my brother, in a less then happy mode, at the Hyuuga clan in Konoha?" she mumbled out loud.

'Must resist the urge to poison the Hyuuga ramen supply!' Ayame thought furiously.

Ah yes, the girls in Naruto's life won't be happy with this one.

The next six months everything returned to normalcy in Naruto's life.

At least what passes for normal to our blond ninja-wannabe.

So what pretty much happened in this month was plenty of landscape remodeling (Konoha got more deforested), scenery development (whole rock lands disappeared) and citizen relocating (whole bandit camps got a free jail cell).

So pretty much a boring six months for Naruto.

Oh yeah, he finally got the hang of leveling up.

This of course means that he could continue with the next chapter in the manual. So decided, Naruto headed over to his training grounds to continue his training.

-By this stage of your training you have pretty much mastered all there is to being a capable fighter. All that is left, is to train harder and increase your skills. Search out stronger opponents and fight them, gain experience and increase your level. All that is really left for you to do is increase your attributes. The one needing the most raining is your Ki-levels. This is one of the last things this manual will help you with, by providing you with some special moves. These moves will use a certain amount of Ki each time, which will help boost your Ki-levels that much faster. One last thing, eventually you will feel as if you have reached a certain plateau in your skills. Your physical improvement rate will drastically decrease and your Ki-levels will stay roughly the same. When this happens you can look at the last page, but it could be dangerous to try it out before then. I'll say this one more time, DON"T LOOK BEFORE YOU ARE READY!-

'Special moves, huh?' Naruto thinks to himself 'Finally some jutsu!'

Quickly he turns over to the next page and looks at the first move.

-In my travels I have witnessed some obscure moves. I have seen everything from the earth-shattering to the downright bizarre moves. One move I witnessed would be called useless by most, but can be downright lethal to others. I ultimately decided that I just had to learn it, so I asked the one who knew it to teach me. It took me a while to make him agree, but it has been one of my favorites since then. The move is called Solarflare. The move itself doesn't really cause any lasting damage and is only useable while the sun is out, but the effects can be quite devastating. It can be used to temporary blind a person, by producing an intense amount of bright light. Be sure to close your own eyes however because it could effect yourself too.-

Naruto's mind was instantly working thru all the possibilities the move presents, while readying the instructions.

It wasn't long before he went to practice however. It would be dark soon, after all.

It was the month before the genin exam and things couldn't get better for Naruto. He progressed in his training rapidly. His raining in kunai and shuriken, with Tenten, was at an all time high. His visits to Ayame became more frequent, even in the off hours. He always sat next to Hinata in class and eats with her in his lunch time. All in all his friends and training keeps him occupied but happy. Currently he is eating with two of his female friends at his favorite restaurant in Konoha, the Ichiraku named after it's owner.

"So are you ready for the genin exam, Naruto?" Tenten asks. Coincidently she met Naruto at the stand today, while her team had the day off.

Naruto took no time to ponder it over at all "Of course! I will try my best and easily make genin." looking her strait in the eye, he then pronounced "Then I can finally prove myself to the people of Konoha!"

Blushing a bit, from looking at Naruto's startlingly deep blue eyes, she utters with absolute conviction "I believe in you, Naruto-kun."

Giving her his soft lady killer smile Naruto said "Thank you, Tenten-chan."

Not to be outdone by her rival for her crushes heart Ayame says "I know for curtain you will make it, Naruto-kun! I never doubted it for a second!"

Having directed his attention to her, she can't help blush when he gives her a heartfelt thank you as well "Thank you, Ayame-chan."

While the two young ladies were still in a daze Naruto decided to change the subject "So how does it go with your team, Tenten-chan?"

Snapping out of her daze Tenten mulled it over for a bit before saying "Well Rock Lee is a pretty decent guy. He has a weird sense of fashion though (understatement of the century). He can't use any chakra because his chakra coils aren't developed enough, but he makes it up for it by his rigorous training in Taijutsu. Fortunately for him our sensei Maito Gai is the foremost taijutsu-expert of Konoha, unfortunately he is the source of Lee's sense of fashion." catching her breath she continues on about her last teammate "Hyuuga Neji is the last member and was rookie of the year. He is seen as a prodigy even by Hyuuga standards. He isn't really a sociable guy and specializes in his clans techniques."

Naruto immediately zoomed in on the last teammate she spoke of. "Hyuuga?" Naruto mumbled "I wonder if he is related to Hinata-chan."

Although he mumbled the girls still picked up what Naruto said. This immediately activated their rival alarm, rival for Naruto's affections that is.

Ayame was the first to ask the question that was on both girls mind "Who is Hinata, Naruto-kun?" she asked a little to sweetly.

Naruto meanwhile was oblivious to it all "Oh, that's right! I haven't told you two about her yet! You know the mysterious present I get every year?" seeing them nod he continued "Well it seems she was the mysterious gift giver. Since then we have been hanging out while in class."

'Why that sneaky bitch!' Tenten thought 'While I have only been able to see Naruto when I'm not training, she went behind my back and started to get frisky with my man!' What she of course forgets is that while she didn't know about Hinata, the girl herself still doesn't even know about her.

Ayame was having similar thoughts, although a bit more destructive 'When I get my hands on that hussy, I will rip out her spine!'

Meanwhile Naruto looked at the time and decided it was time to continue his training "Ladies, it was good seeing you two again, but I have to go."

Before any of the two could object, and interrogate him about a certain heiress, he was gone. Leaving two fuming women looking for a way to get away with murder.

While he was walking towards his training ground he suddenly heard sniffling. Being the curious person that he is, he decided to investigate.

Pushing himself thru a few bushes, he eventually came into a clearing to find a crying girl. In fact it was a very familiar crying girl.

Approaching the girl he asked "Hinata-chan?" Startled the girl looked up with a tearstained face "Are you alright?"

Seeing her crush standing right in front of her all she can do is turn away and think 'Oh no! Now he is going to see me for the weak girl I am and will never want to see me again.' Not being able to handle that thought, she turned away from him completely and tried to forget he was even there.

Naruto decided he would have none of that and walked over to her. Delicately he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his lap. "Tell me what is wrong, Hinata-chan. You can always count on me to help you. It's a promise." he whispered in her ear.

Initially she tried to weakly break out of his hold, but ultimately she decided to just get it over with "I'm weak."

Naruto looked at her startled. He never thought of the girl as weak before. She is one of the few people who give him hope. Hope that one day people will treat him like a real human being, with respect and love. No, if there is one thing that he wouldn't ever think of Hinata, then that is that she is weak. He told her just what he thought of her previous statement "You aren't weak Hinata!" he told her with so much conviction that she immediately looked in those blue eyes of his. What she saw in them made her gasp. Those eyes spoke of a belief, a belief in her and her strength. He looked at her not as someone beneath her, but as an equal. From that moment on it was like some dam burst, her crush disappeared and turned into a small trickle of love. A trickle that would probably only expand in the years to come. She just didn't see him as a role model anymore, some one to work up to. She saw him as someone she would like to spent the rest of her live with.

Clueless to this all Naruto continued "You are one of the most powerful women I know, Hinata-chan." Naruto said in a softer tone of voice "Why would you ever think of yourself as weak?"

Not daring to look him strait in the eye she responded "Because my father said so." in barely a whisper she continued "I always loose every sparring match."

Fortunately Naruto's sensitive hearing picked up the last of her words "You can't be that bad. You just need more experience!" so saying he coached her into sparring with him "Let me see Hinata-chan!" he said dropping into a stance "Let's spar."

It took him a while but eventually Hinata dropped into a sloppy defensive stance.

Naruto charged her at a slow pace, trying to test her defenses first. With a pretty strait foreword punch he easily broke through Hinata's guard and made her fall onto the ground.

Hinata inwardly cringed and prepared to be berated by her love, only to be caught off guard by being encouraged "Come on, Hinata-chan! I know you can do much better then that." looking up he caught her gaze "When you fight with an opponent you have to give it your very best. When you fight at your top you show you opponent your respect for his or her skills and the drive you have to become stronger." seeing her start to work herself up, he decided to go for the finisher "You do respect my skills, don't you Hinata-chan?"

That did it for her. She immediately got up and went into a much better defensive stance, waiting for Naruto to come at her. 'I have to give it my all, for you Naruto-kun!' she thought.

The fight went much better after that and even Naruto managed to break a sweat at the end. "See you aren't weak at all! You are much stronger then you think!" he said while giving her his lady killer smile.

Hinata looked a bit deflated while she said "A-ano, b-but I didn't e-even h-hit you on-nce."

Seeing her get depressed again he decided to try to cheer her up "I'll let you in on a secret." Naruto all but whispered to her, causing her to lean over to him "It is all about the experience!"

Seeing her puzzled look he further explained "I had a lot of problems in the beginning as well, but after I got more experience in fighting real opponents, my skills improved by an enormous amount." he finally said giving her a smile.

He looked her over and suddenly got an idea "I wonder." he muttered.

She doesn't know how she got talked into this, but here she is walking down a random road.

It didn't take her long to reach her objective.

"Well, well! What do we have here!" a man said dropping out of a tree.

"It looks like we have us a woman in our midst, boys!" another said while three more came out of different hiding places.

"Now what is a pretty girl like you doing out here all by yourself, you never know what kind of scumbags come around here." yet another asked.

"Why don't you come with us? Then we can have a little fun!" the last said while obviously leering at her already impressive curves.

"A-ano, I d-don't th-think that t-that's a g-good idea." Hinata responded with her ever present stutter.

"But I insist!" one of the bandits said, while charging at her.

Initially she panics, but years of practice soon take over. She activates her bloodline and quickly disables the first of the four bandits. The other three, seeing their comrade down, quickly charge at her as well.

Being surrounded she is forced to perform a move that she hasn't really perfected, but fortunately she is able to perform it perfectly under pressure.

With a quick Kaiten, she spins around her axel.

The bandits are to late to get out of their charge and take a direct hit. All three smash against a tree and are instantly knocked out.

Suddenly a fifth person makes itself known, instantly putting Hinata back on her guard. Only for her to relax when she sees the person approaching is Naruto.

Naruto whistles while looking at the four, now unconscious, bandits "Wow, you really did a number on them!" the praise from him caused her to blush a deep scarlet.

Meanwhile Naruto is oblivious to her current predicament "I told you, Hinata-chan! In a real life situation you can more easily redefine your style. Not only that but it is also a perfect way to get some real combat experience, so you won't fumble up on a mission."

Tying the four up Naruto continued "Anyway, let's go on and find their camp. It should be here somewhere!"

The two of them quickly found the bandit camp. It took them a bit of teamwork, but eventually they managed to take out most of the men. Naruto, obviously the most experienced, made short work of most of the men. While Hinata took out a few here or there, primarily she watched Naruto's back.

Eventually they made it to the main tent, where the leader seemed to be waiting fore them.

The man was a solid wall of muscle. He looked to be at least 7.22 feet tall and carried a pair of Great Swords almost as big as him. He also had a few scars running across his exposed chest and back, all in all it made for a pretty intimidating sight.

Pulling the two swords from his back he bellowed "Well, well! If it isn't the famous Banditbuster!"

'Banditbuster?' Hinata thought 'What is he talking about?'

Without having time to utter the question, it was answered for her "Oh yes! I know all about you!" the man uttered seeing the look of surprise on Naruto's face "The man who single handedly captured at least a hundred bandit camps. Although it does seem you have a companion with you this day." the man said looking at Hinata.

Turning his gaze back to Naruto the man uttered "But I am nothing like those weak fools! I am Twinblade! B-class missing-nin from Iwa (rock)!"

Charging right to Naruto with his two swords, he further exclaimed "Meet the twins!" gesturing at his swords he continued "They are Suraisu (slice) and Saikoro (dice)! They are the last thing you will ever see!"

Naruto quickly rushed his opponent head on while saying "Stay back, Hinata-chan! This guy is mine!"

The battle Hinata saw could only be summed up in one word, fast!

Even with her bloodline activated she could barely catch up to the two blurs that are Naruto and Twinblade. Every time Twinblade comes close to slashing Naruto, Naruto dodges at the last minute and punches Twinblade in the gut.

Naruto definitely has the speed advantage in this fight, he narrowly dodges each time and delivers quick disabling punches to his opponents. It doesn't take long for Twinblade to slow down and falter.

Just as the bandit was about to deliver another slash, Naruto's hands began to hold a strange triangular handseal and he shouted "Hinata close your eyes!" Quickly she does as he says and closes her eyes.

While Naruto yelled at to Hinata to close her eyes, Twinblade was about to do the same. Unfortunately for him he was to late and a blinding light hit him straight in the eyes. Before he got his bearings straight, Naruto was on him. With a fast volley of unrestricted punches the bandit was out like a light in no time at all.

Weary from the fight, the two made short work of handing the bandits over to the authorities and went back to Konoha. They were both much to tired to speak.

Finally the genin exams arrived.

It was a month ago that Hinata and Naruto started their little adventures together, but Hinata has already shown a lot of progress.

She stutters a lot less, she airs more confidence and she becomes even redder when in the vicinity of Naruto.

But all of that aside. Today is the day Uzamaki Naruto becomes a genin…

YOU FAIL!

…or not.

It seems that they decided to test our hero on his one obvious weakness. The Bunshin no Jutsu. He couldn't make one to save his live or pass a genin exam.

So here we find our hero sitting on a swing, while looking at all the parents congratulating their children.

While he is moping about his failed exam Mizuki, one of his teachers, comes up to him and offers him a deal "You know Naruto, there is another way to pass…

Finally done!

This chapter took me far longer then expected. I had a huge writers block at the second paragraph. Luckily I recovered from it and brought out this chapter.

For those of you who guessed that Twinblade came from the game Fable, congratulations you are right!

I got the idea for his appearance early on which actually started the whole bandit busting thing.

For those of you who think the name Banditbuster sucks I have only one thing to say:

Well…FUCK YOU TOO!

Just kidding. I think the name is corny as hell too, but it works.

On a more important note. I estimate the abilities of a B-class missing-nin at about rookie jounin. This means that I think Naruto is at about that level. For all of you who think that is to powerful, well…suck my ass. Naruto has a lot of powerful people after his ass.

One more thing before we head to the poll. I would advise people not to forget that Twinblade relies heavily on strength and endurance and not a lot on speed. While he would out endure most people, we are talking here about a stamina freak like Naruto. Not only is he able to endure a lot in canon, but he has also trained especially for endurance and speed in my fic. Naturally Twinblade would have a bad match against him.

Now to the more important stuff: the poll. After careful consideration and consulting the readers votes, I have narrowed it down to these three:
