Before she could make a move to retreat both creatures lunged at each other, the black creature slashed at the humanoid and she saw the creature splash bright green blood all over her room as the black one left a rather large laceration over its shoulder.

"It's not acidic…" She said aloud, not gathering the attention of either of them as they were still locked in battle. She had expected his blood would be of similar composition. Why so green though? Did it not contain any hemoglobin? How did these two things transport oxygen without hemoglobin in their blood?

She was pulled back to the battle when she heard the humanoid roar in pain and she found the alien black creature latched onto its body from the front.

Lauren watched for a few seconds as the creature clawed to get the black thing of it and she realized that if that thing won and killed the humanoid she would be dead. She could run and hide but in the end this humanoid was trying to kill that thing and she was okay with that.

She turned around and flipped open her bedside table cupboard and opened the safe, pulling out her gun and training it at the black thing. If she killed it and the humanoid decided to kill her it was fine - he would be able to kill others if there were more and she knew there was. There was no chance this one creature could travel miles in a few minutes between attacks in various directions - whatever they were, there was more.

She cocked the gun and fired, the bang resounding through the room and almost deafening her. After a split second of readjustments she heard the beast fall to the ground screaming a god-awful sound. She braced herself as she fired at the creature until her ears were hurting so badly she had to stop and when she tried to give a final shot she found the magazine empty.

She looked at the scene in front of her and felt a sense of muffled horror. Both creatures were down, the black creature lying on top of the humanoid as it oozed it's corrosive blood and she heard as the humanoid gurgled and thrashed in pain as the acid connected with what she assumed to be its skin.

"Oh no…" She murmured. She had shot both. The humanoid was oozing blood over her carpet while the black thing was doing the same, except for the addition of where it was burning right through her carpet and into the floorboard underneath.

She stood motionless for what felt like hours before running towards the downed creatures and grabbing the black beast by the tail and yanked as hard as she could. A second after grabbing it she yelped in pain and stepped backwards. She grimaced as she dared a glance at her palms.

Letting out a sign of relief she realized there was no acid on her hands, instead she saw deep lacerations running across them. She flexed her fingers a few times to test for any tendon damage and when she found none she looked back at the black was now lying next to the humanoid and she noted its tail seemed to be much more serrated than previously.

"Defensive mechanism." She murmured, her mind drawing to a porcupine - a fairly harmless creature in comparison.

She went to sit down on the bed as she looked at the dead beast and dying humanoid and she felt lost for the first time in a long time. She could hear the labored breaths of the living creature as the acid still burned into it. She took odd fascination in watching how much slower it dissolved into this thing than it did into human flesh.

She didn't know what to do now. She had not anticipated this other creature would be hurt to the point where it couldn't move. She would've just reported the dead black thing to the authorities.

She felt an odd stirring of a bad idea and yet she knew it was the right one. She could not let them take it as it seemed it was here to kill these things. If they took it and there weren't more she didn't know what would happen to them. She had seen the death count of them second-hand.

With a sign she got to her feet, grabbing her bedding, and approached the writhing creature. She saw most of the acid had oxidized and became a yellowish brown color already so instead she opted to quickly wipe the active acid from it. The second she touched the creature she saw it try to pull away.

"Come now, I'm not here to hurt you." She murmured, much the same way she did to the children that required injections at the hospital. She was, however, surprised to see this creature calm a lot quicker than the kids ever did. Did it understand her?

She decided not to entertain that thought as she instead cleaned off all the acid and then sat back to assess the damage. She could see its blood still running from the deep laceration on its shoulder and now searched for the bullet wound.

She found it moments later when it coughed and blood spurted from a hole on its chest and soon it was coughing blood. She grimaced as she immediately turned it on its side in a recovery position and placed the blanket underneath its head to catch all the blood being coughed up.

Lauren finally stood up and immediately made her way to her personal medical kit whilst pondering where to place him once she had stitched his shoulder and bullet wound.
