It had been twenty minutes since the Rangers had left the Command Center. The silence of the room was only broken up by the sound of the Viewing Globe. In it the Rangers faced a fierce battle against their opponent. Vagabond-Bird-Cage.
Vagabond Bird-Cage was, from a design point of view, one of the dumbest looking monsters that Rita's forces had ever created. It was basically just a birdcage with arms, legs and a sombrero on top.
In practice, though it was one of the most annoying to fight. Its body is the form of a cage meant that it was hard to shoot with distance weapons, but more dangerously it also allowed the creature to trap the Rangers' weapons between its bars.
Once it did that it twisted the weapon out of the individual's hand, leaving the Ranger defenseless and it open to use its actual power. Trapping the now weaponless Ranger in a separate dimension connected with the monster's cage door. Through leaving the weapon behind on the battlefield.
It appeared to be a sadly effective method of dealing with at least three Rangers, as it had trapped Jason and Kim blade blasters in its bars, then teleporting them into some other dimension. A similar fate befell Tommy's Dragon Dagger, not seconds later, trapped in the cage bars and teleported to its dimension.
Zack, thankfully figured this quickly, informed the others of this and together they only attacked the creature horizontally. Unfortunately, Vagabond-Bird-Cage proved that, when accompanied by a putty patrol capable of fighting in its own right, he could dominate them all physically.
The three remaining Rangers were outnumbered and getting their asses handed to them. Spark littered around their bodies whenever the monster stuck. The Rangers were in trouble.
"Alpha" Zordon spoke the dire nature of the situation being heard in his voice "Release the containment field around Green"
"But Zordon" He stammered "What…."
"There is little time Alpha"
"I hope we won't regret this"
The robot then went the console pressing a few buttons. Releasing the Mutant Ranger.
"I have great faith that you will help us in this situation"
"You can count on me Zordon" The green ranger told him. He looked at Alpha 5 and nodded at him, touched his dark belt buckle and teleported out in a dark green flame.
Once this happened the two left in the Command Center looked at each other a grim nod passing between them.
"That is not good" Alpha whined.
The three remaining rangers weren't doing so well. Without the other three the monster was overwhelming them, the only thing the had going for them was that they had already defeated all the puttys.
The monster had seemed to only grow in power after capturing the others. Were once a kick from Zack knocked it down, now it knocked Zack down instead. Were once they could out speed its legs, now it flashed about the battle field smacking them about.
Zack shifted the Power Axe into its cannon function in an attempt to keep the creature at bay. Suddenly Bill in came from behind the creature streaking it with his lance the same way Zack did earlier, sending both sparks into the air and Vagabond BirdCage to the ground.
The three regrouped a bit further away. Trini waved them closer so that the creature couldn't overhear them strategizing.
"Okay," Billy huffed. "Lucky for us it seems the creature hasn't adapted to our weapons"
"But if we destroy it what happens to our friends," Zack asked him blasting the BirdCage back to ground whenever it sat up.
"It is not too smart is it" Came an electronic voice to the side. The three rapidly in its direction. It was Green in all his dark gloved glory. He had the Dragon Dagger in one hand and his own long sword in the other. He lifted the dagger to his lips and played a tone.
Blasts of lightning struck out at Rita's monster launching it as one would a rocket. Green followed this up by sliding the Dagger down the blade of his sword, energizing it and then dropping the Dagger in front of the trio.
In a blur of green filled motion, the mutant leaped at Vagabond, slashing and stabbing at the lock on its cage. The monster barely managed to dodge and block each strike, sidestepping what he couldn't.
Zack could feel his jaw hang in amazement. He hadn't that the mutant would have come to help defeat the monster. In all honesty, he would have expected it to destroy the Command Center while they were away like Tommy did before him.
The comms beeped in that familiar sound. The rangers who were not fighting at moment looked at each before Trini decided to answer the call.
"Zordon, Jason, Tommy and Kim are gone," She told him with haste, not unlike that of a mountain lion. "What will we do?"
"Do not worry Rangers" Their mentor told them. "Alpha's scans of the creature has revealed that it can not hold any more prisoners and destroying him will release them"
With that quick revelation, the remaining Rangers launched themselves into combat once more. Zack picked the Dagger from the ground, Trini sprinted ahead of the others while Billy put his blade blaster into gun mode.
Green slashed download with his blade, causing a wave of green energy to shoot out from it hitting BirdCage back once more and Green couching down. Trini took advantage of this by leaping onto his shoulder and jumping off her Power Daggers sparking off the Cage like creature.
Billy's attack came next, Blade Blaster firing at the creature from a distance, pinning its moves down by attacking the space around it and leaving it open to further attack. Next Zack came charging in with a yell, sliding the Dragon Dagger down the blade of his axe, energizing a black haze and then mimicked Trini's earlier action and leaping onto and then off Green's shoulders, dropping the Dagger below to said Ranger.
"What!" Vagabond screamed. "This can not be"
Zack's momentum carried his swing so that the monster took the force that almost matched half of what the Power Blaster could do but more than enough to put down this creature.
BOOM
The being exploded in a shower of sparks, falling face down in a pitiful whimper. When suddenly a pin dropped from the sky. The ground opened opened in front of the monster and it was soon back in full health and several stories high.
"Hello, small frys" It taunted the rangers.
"Dammit," Zack yelled out.
"Without the others, we can't form the MegaZord" Trini yelped in frusatsion.
"Ehh, guys" Billy interrupted them pointing at the Green Mutant Ranger holding the Dragon Dagger his hand.
Zack stood there for a moment, thinking on whether or not this was the right way of doing things. He still didn't trust the creation of Rita, he'd seen too many of her schemes to trust such a overious trick. Sadly for Zack's piece of mind, the other two of the group didn't share his hesitation.
"Can you the Dagger to control the DragonZord" The Yellow Ranger asked the current holder of the weapon.
Green scoffed briefly before bringing the Dagger to his helmet and somehow the weapon played its unique song. A roar of power was heard off in the distance as the world quaked from of the emerging Zord.
"So that's yes," Zack said tensely. He held his Axe tightly.
The DragonZord had appeared on the scene. Its drill tail spinning, its chest lighting up and missiles for finger tips. The DragonZord was ready for a fight.
(Lunar Palace)
It wasn't often that the universe could surprize the priemer monster maker Finster. First, there was the surverial of the Green Mutant Ranger, then it was how effective his newest creation was. He never thought that VagaBond-BirdCage would be so effective by taking out three of the Rangers.
The creature was never designed to defeat them as Rita had only wanted to lure them out to see would the Green Mutant Ranger would reappear to assist it in defeating the Rangers.
In fact, if it wasn't for a third surprise they might have defeated the Rangers, that was if it wasn't for the Mutant Green Ranger. For some reason, the Putty had helped the Power Rangers to defeat his creation. This fight was over now, for VagaBond stood no chance against the DragonZord.
His Empress wouldn't like this, in fact, if he was right she was just about to….
"FINSTER!"
The creature creator walked out of his lab and into Palace Throne room with all the calm of Winnie the Pooh meeting Christopher Robin.
"Yes my mistress," Finster whispered, his glass glittering in the low light. "How my help you"
Rita sat on her throne, her head on her hand, her elbow on the arm of the throne.
"Imagine," She spoke lowly, her voice echoing about the empty room. "My surprise when my own Ranger reappears, only to fight against my own monster instead of the Rangers"
"I'm just as surprised my Empress" Finster told her in attempt to calm the raging storm that was Rita's temper.
"You know what I see Finster," She stood off her throne, her scepter in hand and walked to the balcony overlooking Earth. "I see the loss of numerous monster, I see us becoming the laughing stock of the Alliance, struck in this back-water world"
"I see Lord Zedd or King Mondo coming in and destroying us for being so weak," She spat. "That children defeat us, again and again"
"I'm sorry that my creations have failed you my Empress"
"Now," She turned to face the creature creator. "Now I see something different Finster" Rita waved him over to her Magic Telescope. He walked over to it and looked into the scope. "Do you what I see now?"
The vision that Finster saw the Green Ranger piloting the DragonZord in Battle Mode to defeat his monster. He looked back to his master, dejected.
"Is that failure oh Empress," He asked. "Is it failure you see"
She chuckled joyfully, sitting back down on her throne.
"No, my dear Finster" She smirked. "I see opportunity"
Okay, the chapter was shorter then I wanted but I skipped Zord fight for one reason. The Rangers Zord fights are kind of hard for me to write. Sadly I have little experience in writing fight scene so I wasn't sure how to end the fight between the Rangers and the Monster.
This story isn't really about the fight scenes but it is about questions that will be raised throughout but it is Power Rangers so there will be a lot of fights. I wanted Zack, Billy, and Trini to get more focus earlier on, as the story will only attempt to give them character development but plot much importance later on.
The monster is actually unused DaiRanger monster that the canon rangers never fought. I did mostly because I was lazy.
I am hoping to keep Rita in this from getting to OOC as I'm planing her to be a better planner than in the TV series shows her being. That, of course, means that the Rangers will be smarter to balance scales so to speak. I mean if she was master planer and the Rangers were fools she would won be now.
