Zelda was slowly walking along the garden pathway, among colorful flowerbeds and blossoming trees. The sun was setting down, making the view truly magnificent. But she was too occupied with her thoughts to notice any of it. Only the sky was reminding her of a person she had spent a lot of time thinking about lately. But at that moment she was alone, because she wanted to be. She needed time to think and sort out her feelings.

She couldn't have been happier the day Midna kissed her. She had felt an overwhelming joy that had lasted for a bit, but was now mostly gone. Another underlying emotion was starting to manifest. She had only noticed it recently, but it was already growing into a constant anxiety and uneasiness. As time passed though, she would comprehend it better.

She had stopped walking and was now fixing a single point on the ground, lost in her thoughts. She remembered the other day, when Link came. She saw how he and Midna interacted. How they seemed to get along so well, how Midna appeared to be so happy with him. Zelda knew this jealousy was ridiculous, but couldn't help and worry. She was feeling very insecure about their relationship, even though Midna had always treated her so well. She trusted her, she really did. But, what if? What if she didn't really mean it? What would she do then?

She felt her chest tighten at these thoughts. She tried to calm down as her anxiety was becoming overwhelming. The sun was hidden behind the mountains now. It was quiet until she heard a soft rustle behind her and felt two arms embracing her.

"What are you doing here all alone when I'm looking for you everywhere?" Midna whispered in Zelda's ear, with a teasing voice.

"Ah, I'm just enjoying the view here" Zelda replied, a fake smile on her face.

Midna hugged her even more tightly.

"But I was waiting for you" she grumbled.

Zelda couldn't help but let out an amused giggle at the sound of her lover's voice. However, she quickly furrowed her eyebrows and bit her lip in worry. She had to tell her what was really on her mind.

"You seemed really happy to meet with Link again, didn't you?"

"I was."

Zelda twisted her mouth at the clear answer. Midna quickly noticed her lover was acting weird, so she broke their embrace and faced her, staring at her face as if she wanted to read her mind.

"Ah, I think I understand." She finally said after a moment. She paused, searching for her words. "Haven't I already told you I don't love him?" she smiled.

Zelda blushed and immediately felt silly. Nonetheless, she had to be honest with Midna regarding her worries now.

"Midna, I-... I don't know. If it's not him… then it could be someone else. How can I be sure you will always feel this way about me? Am I really… well, good enough for you to stay with me...?"

Midna was speechless. Then she closed her eyes, and Zelda feared she might be upset. However, she spoke calmly, and her eyes were sincere.

"You will have to take my word for it, Princess. I kissed you that day because I've longed for your lips for months; I've been thinking about you since we met. I really do love you..."

Before the Queen could react, Midna planted a chaste kiss on her lips to reassure her. But then it turned into a passionate embrace when none of them wanted to let go of the other. When they finally separated, they were both bright red.

"Do you believe me now?" Midna asked gently.

Zelda nodded shyly.

"It might take time for you to feel confident about all of this, but please remember I am here for you. You can rely on me if there's anything you need."

Zelda smiled, genuinely this time.

"Please forgive my silliness, dear Midna. I love you too..."
