Two days after the Sports Festival, Izuku is on a train to U.A. High School. While on the train, some of the passengers recognize him from the Sports Festival, acknowledging his prowess.
"Young man," a man said getting Izuku attention, "You're Midoriya from the hero course, right? Nice going at the sports festival!"
Soon Izuku was getting more compliments from the other passengers on the train.

In their class, the students of Class 1-A are discussing the attention they received from the Sports Festival. Class 1-A's homeroom teacher, Aizawa, enters, causing everyone to hurry back to their seats. Their teacher has fully recovered from his injuries, no longer needing to wear bandages. Aizawa tells his students that their Hero Informatics Period will be about formulating their Hero names, much to their excitement. Aizawa says that the formulation of their potential Hero names is due to the nominations by Pro Heroes. He says that the nominations from the Pro Heroes this year are more akin to expressions of interest in their potential futures. Shota shows his class their tally of nominations, saying that the tally of nominations are usually more balanced but this year the attention points to Katsuki and Shouto.
Aizawa says that regardless of whether or not they received nominations he will be having them go get work-place experience. Aizawa says that they did get the first-hand experience at the U.S.J. unfortunately but he thinks that experiencing the activities of Pro Heroes firsthand will prove to be more fruitful training. Soon, Midnight arrives and Aizawa explains to his class that he requested Midnight to evaluate their Hero names. Aizawa tells his class that the way their futures end up will depend on the image projected by the Hero names they choose.
Midnight gives Class 1-A 15 minutes to decide on Hero names. After 15 minutes have passed, each student starts to reveal the Hero name they chose.
After most of the Class 1-A has revealed their Hero names, only Izuku and Tenya are left. Tenya has struggled in deciding whether to use his older brother's Hero name Ingenium or not. Eventually, Tenya is unable to bring himself to use Tensei's Hero name and instead uses his own name as his Hero name.
Izuku is the last student yet to reveal his Hero name. Izuku reveals his Hero name, causing some of his classmates to comment if he is okay with it, to which Izuku replies that up until now he didn't like it at all. Izuku says, however, that someone came along and changed the meaning of the name making him happy. Izuku reveals his Hero name to be Deku, saying with confidence that Deku will be his Hero name. Katsuki looks on in anger while Ochako smiles at Izuku's Hero name.

After Class 1-A has finished formulating their Hero names, Shota tells his students that their field training will be one week long. He says that the students who received nominations will get a personalized list of workplaces to choose from. Shota gives the students who didn't receive nominations lists that have 40 workplaces to choose from.
"Submit your choices by this coming week," Shota said.
"We got only two days to pick?!" Sero shouted.
When school was over, All Might appears in front of Izuku Midoriya as he is about to leave class. All Might came to tell Izuku that he was drafted.
"Someone has drafted you!" All Might said.
"Huh!? Huh?! Seriously!?" Izuku question with excitement.
"His name is… Gran Torino! He was once my instructor at U.A. just a year. As he was my homeroom teacher. He knows all about the situation with one for all. That may also be the reason why he reached out to you," All Might said.
"To me? Such an amazing guy?! So that means there's someone else in the loop you didn't mention." Izuku sounding excited.
"Gran Torino is a good friend from the last generation," All Might started to sweat, "He retired a long time ago, I forgot about him." All Might was starting shake uncomfortably. "Did he draft you because he didn't think my guidance was enough? But for him to make this scouting pick using his old name from way back then when… it's scary. So scary."
Izuku was starting to freak out too by seeing All Might scared like that.
"Anyhow, training you is fundamentally my duty, but… he went to all this trouble, so… I guess I can let him take a cr-crack at it." All Might said with his leg still quivering only to scare Izuku more wondering how scary this Gran Torino is.
"Oh, and don't forget your costume! It's been repaired!" The hero reminded his successor.

The following day, Class 1-A was given their walking orders as Aizawa drove them to the metro station, where they would each board their trains and go to their internships. Every one of them was given a bag with their legend ensembles and the tickets were paid for by the school.
"You've got your costume, right?" Shota asked his students, "Wearing them in public is strictly prohibited, don't drop them."
"Yeah!" Mina cheered.
"And don't slur your "yeah," Ashido. All of you be on your best behavior. Now go," Aizawa said as he dismissed his students and with that Class 1-A head off to their internships.
Izuku spotted Tenya heading for his train and went after him. His friend had been so bleak the day before and when Izuku discovered that Tenya was heading off to a hero office in Hosu City for his internship, it made Izuku worry for his friend. Tenya wasn't the sort of person to do something reckless, yet he was as yet shaken by the attack on his brother.
"Tenya?" Izuku said reluctantly once he made up for lost time with him. His companion quit strolling, however, didn't pivot quickly. "I… I simply need you to know, in case you're constantly feeling sad, let us know. We're your friends."
Tenya turned to look at him. The smile on his face was empty; Izuku had seen that same smile when he practiced in the mirror sometimes.
"Sure."
And with that Tenya walked away towards his trolley and headed for Hosu City. Izuku doesn't say anything else to his friend and he hopes he doesn't regret it.

After a forty-five-minute train rider, Izuku was walking towards Gran Torino address. "A hero who scares the pants off of All-Might, Gran Torino. I've never heard of him, but he's got be one awesome guy."
Izuku looked at the address on his card and then back up at the ruined building skeptically. It was the right address, but... the home had definitely seen better days. It wasn't exactly what he'd been expecting given that Gran Torino scared even All Might. Then again, this Gran Torino did only became a teacher for All Might and retire from teaching after that so it wouldn't surprise him if this building looks worse for wear.
He gulped and knocked on the door, but blinked when it simply opened from him hitting it. Hesitantly, he pushed it open and glance inside. "Um, hello? I'm Izuku Midoriya…I'm from U.A High School…anyone ho-"
Izuku suddenly saw a small, old man face-down on the ground, red liquid under his body and what looked horrifyingly like intestines coming out of his belly. He screamed. "HE'S DEAD!"
The old man's head whipped up to look at Izuku. "I'm alive!"
"YOU'RE ALIVE?!" Izuku shrieked, still freaking out a lot.
"To slip and fall while holding ketchup-covered sausage links, how clumsy of me," the old man muttered with a dopey smile on his face. He stood up, leaning on his cane as he started to pick things up. "Who are you?"
"I-Izuku Midoriya, I've come from U.A.!" he answered.
"What?" Grono Torino asked.
"I'm Izuku Midoriya!" repeated Izuku.
"And who are you?" Torino asked as Izuku withered. He knew this person would have been old since he'd instructed All Might, however, was he actually senile?
The old man suddenly sat down in the mess of ketchup and looked up at him again. "I'd like to eat lunch."
"Lunch!"
"Toshinori?" asked Gran Torino tilting his head to the side.
"That's not my name!" Izuku retorted, growing more and more confused by the second. He grabbed his phone out of his pocket and started walking for the door. "Excuse me, I…I have to make a phone call for a second."
All Might has to realize that this person is too old, Izuku thought to himself. He heard the snap of a briefcase and looked behind him to discover Gran Torino hauling out his outfit from the silver case he'd been given.
"Fire off an attack. Show me One for All," Gran Torino said suddenly, his tone changing. Izuku froze; he sounded a lot more serious than he had earlier. "I'd like to know to what degree you can control it."
"Uh… W-what?"
"This is a nice costume you've got here," the old man commented, looking at Izuku costume.
"Who are you again?" Gran Torino repeated his question happily.
"Tch," Izuku was getting frustrated. "I need to get this power under control as soon as possible. I need to… because All Might doesn't have much time left. That's why I don't have time to mess around with you."
Izuku was getting ready to head out from the front door then a sudden blast of wind behind him and then Gran Torino was perched against the wall above the door, grinning down at him dangerously. The senile old man he'd seen moments ago was gone completely.
"Then I'll tell you once more. Come at me, you Neophyte!" Gran Torino told him leaving Izuku shock.
"The way you used it in at the sports festival, that justice-obsessed fool All Might sure is a novice when it comes to teaching," Gran Torino said. "He can't watch over you properly, So that means I gotta do it. So, put on your costume."
Unable to form an appropriate response, Izuku went for the briefcase and changed in the bathroom as quickly as he could. There was a user's manual with the costume, as the department of heroics' support branch had made some minor tweaks to the design. It was a darker green with black patterns at his torso, and the mouthpiece that now hung around his collar was part of the upper half of his costume. Elbow and knee guards had been implemented into the costume as well.
He stood before Gran Torino in his costume beta form, his fists clenched inside the white gloves.
"Okay! I'm ready, but…is it really okay to use my Quirk in here? I still have some trouble managing One for All. If I go all out in here, maybe it will be better with wide-open space. I might damage everything and if I hit you, will you be…"
"Geez, you sure talk a lot," Gran Torino sigh and suddenly flew to the side of the room, bouncing off the wall and then the ceiling to position himself above and behind Izuku. "I'm getting impatient."
His foot slammed into Izuku's back with an impressive force for such an old man. Izuku stumbled with a yelp but regained his footing after a moment. He glanced around rapidly as Gran Torino bounced around the room, but he was moving too fast for the teenager to see what his Quirk was.
"Seems you couldn't perceive my true power before!" Gran Torino landed on the microwave, crushing it beneath his feet. The old man sneered at his new student. "I can't believe the ninth holder of One for All is such a wet blanket. All Might really is a total novice at teaching!"
He blurred away and slammed into Izuku twice more as the boy tried to figure out his opponent's Quirk. But the old hero was still too fast for him and so Izuku went on the defensive, letting One For All consume his right arm. He went for an attack only for Gran Torino to smash into him.
He spun around to find the old hero flying towards his back. Torino grinned. "Analysis and prediction? Not bad! But you're sloppy!"
Izuku grit his teeth and started to spread One for All across his body again. Izuku struck at the old man with One for All spread over his right hand, but he found his arm suddenly pinned beneath Torino's foot as he was slammed onto his back. Realizing that he'd lost, Izuku let One for All dissipate from his body.
"But, I was sure I had you."
No, because I saw the way you fought in the cavalry battle and the tournament," the old man said. "I was sure you'd already figured it out, based on that. The respect you have on All Might, that sense of responsibility they're shackles holding you back."
Izuku looks at the old man with confusion. "Shackles?"
"It's true you need to get stronger," Gran Torino muttered. "But time is not in our side for us nor our enemies and they don't want you to get stronger. You thinking of One for All as some unique power."
"…So what should I do?" Izuku asked.
"You got to find that answers yourself," Torino said. "I'm heading out to get some grub. Clean up the place while I'm gone."
"Wha-!" Izuku protested as the old man left the building. The teenager stood there in silence for a minute as he tried to process what had just happened.
Izuku was tapping his foot against the floor as he considered what Gran Torino had told him. His mind was still out of it after the old hero that taught All Might. Now, Izuku needs to figure out what One For All truly is. That his respect for All Might is what keeping him from growing.
Gran Torino told him that his moves were too "stiff". But what does that means in the first place? He guesses it should be loose since it's the opposite of stiff. Loose... now he got what Gran Torino is saying.
"That's it!" Izuku went to his bag to get his journal to write down new details. "Quirks are just the expansion of our bodies! I have to use One For All more evenly!" Izuku kept writing down the lesson Gran Torino taught with not knowing the old was listening to him. Gran Torino smiled seeing his old student didn't make a mistake in choosing Midoriya as the ninth holder.
Ok I know it took to long but let me tell you astronomy and journalist class are pretty hard so I've been distracted by that and I know he hasn't become Ryuki but he will when he's fighting Stain(spoiler). Man, I didn't know long the chapters was but he will become Ryuki also I figured out who will be each rider in the series.
