Leia Organa wrestled with the controls on her X-wing fighter as it plunged towards an uncharted planet below. A quick scan told her the air was breathable and there was sufficient life on the planet. She breathed a quick sigh of relief before Artoo beeped causing her to look down at the translator screen.
/Advanced TIE fighter is smoking./
Leia glanced over catching sight of a trail of smoke as she shook her head. She managed to nail the TIE fighter but he managed to shoot her down in the process, which meant either the pilot was injured or could die during entry. She hoped it was the latter. "Artoo, can we bring this fighter down in one piece?"
Artoo whistled causing her to look down. /Yes./
That's all she needed to know. Leia pulled back on the stick in an attempt to slow the decent of the fighter that was rushing towards the ground. She caught a glimpse of the TIE fighter as it went up in flames. That was one last thing she had to worry about was the pilot attempting to track her down right away, that's if he survived. Hold her steady, she reminded herself as she struggled to keep the nose up as the fighter plunged through the trees breaking off branches as the ground rushed up to meet her. Her head hit the side of the cockpit causing blinding pain to explode in the back of her head.
Leia slowly opened her eyes to an insistent beeping. She glanced behind her noticing the droid was attempting to wake her. She reached up to push the cockpit open. Once it was open she removed the helmet. Her head was pounding fiercely as nausea swept over her. "Artoo, is the long range transmitter still working?"
Artoo beeped a negative as Leia stood up on the seat and climbed out. She made a mental note to gather the supplies in the compartment below the wing. She grabbed the blaster Han gave her as a present and extra power packs attaching them to her belt. It's been a month since Vader encased him into carbonite and she was determined to get him back, one way or another. On the other hand getting herself killed or stranded wasn't going to help him. "Well, maybe we can attempt to fix it and transmit for help," she commented to Artoo as she climbed down the ladder as Artoo evacuated out of the droid socket. After she stepped off the ladder and turned her attention to the body of the fighter to survey the damage. Wreckage was a better word to use she reflected sadly, the X-wing was beyond usable. The wings were clipped and the nose of the fighter was hanging by a thread. "Using the transmitter is out," she observed it had been cleanly snapped off when she crashed.
"Looks like I'm stuck here," Leia muttered under her breath as she opened the compartment and surveyed the supplies. She picked up a backpack and started putting in necessary supplies. There was food, water, a fire-starter and an emergency blanket. She packed the emergency shelter. There was even an oxygen tank along with a first aid kit. She grabbed the first aid kit but decided to leave the oxygen tank. She turned on the homing beacon and attached it to the body of the X-wing. That should at least alert the nearest base on where she was. She took a couple of painkillers from the first aid kit and popped them into her mouth allowing them to dissolve under her tongue. She felt the pain recede a bit but it would be a good twenty minutes before she started feeling better.
"Come on, Artoo, let's do some exploring, maybe there's a village nearby with a space port," Leia muttered as she set off in the direction of the TIE fighter that had crashed. From what she could tell from above, there should not be any survivors but the pilot could've ejected ahead of time and that's what she needed to know.
Leia didn't have far to go. Just over the small hill she caught sight of smoke. As she neared the wreckage she froze as she heard a familiar struggling respirator. She walked in further as she saw black armor leaning against a tree for support. From here she couldn't tell if he was alive or not. Please tell me I'm not stuck on this planet with Vader. She pleaded to anyone who might be listening. "I should've known it was the Emperor's pet that shot me down."
Vader didn't say a word as Leia watched him with apprehension. Too many bad memories threatened to surface tempting her just to leave him here. Artoo rolled forward causing Leia to put a hand on top of his dome preventing the droid from going any further. The last thing she needed was to lose Luke's droid.
Vader wasn't moving or responded to her remark. Leia cautiously approached the Sith Lord. She could still hear the respirator at work but that didn't mean anything. Vader's head moved suddenly in her direction as she heard him groan. "Princess, that was you who shot me down?"
Leia hardened her expression as Artoo seemed insistent to go to the Dark Lords aide. She couldn't figure out why either. Not after everything he did. "Of all the people I get stuck on a planet with, it had to be you."
"You're not my first choice either," Vader shot back sarcastically. "We should put aside our differences and work together to get off this rock."
"Why? So you can continue to hunt my friends down and torment them further?" Leia snapped angrily. "If you're hurt, good. You can starve to death for all I care. Come on, Artoo. We're going. He doesn't deserve our help."
"I thought Bail taught you better than that," Vader commented causing Leia to stop dead in her tracks.
Leia spun on her heel and gave Vader an icy glare. "How dare you talk about Bail. You stood by allowing Tarkin to blow up my planet and my people. He destroyed the only home that I ever known and you expect me to show you mercy?"
"We have our differences, but you're missing the bigger holo," Vader raised a hand stopping her from speaking further as Leia raised an eyebrow in suspicion. "You have a chance to take me as a prisoner of war. I can't move, something was damaged during the crash."
"Tempting, how do I know this is not some clever trap?" Leia questioned as she continued to walk away. "You're not worth my time or energy. If you're still alive by the time help for me arrives, I may consider taking you in as a prisoner of war. But you will not get any treatment. With you being hurt and easier to detain, it will give the Alliance a chance to bring you up on your war crimes."
"Princess, we're on an uncharted planet and we don't know anything about life here," Vader pointed out. "Give me a chance to show you how to fix a long range transmitter and I will let you call your rebellion friends."
"You have given me no reason to trust you, Vader," Leia pointed out icily. "Your word is no good to me," she waited for his answer feeling her anger slowly leave. If he did know how to fix a long-range transmitter, it was another way to get off this rock quicker. But could she trust him was another question. She didn't trust him to keep his word. He would use her and call the Imperials on her. She was almost certain of it.
"I'm asking to call a truce due to unexpected circumstances," Vader pointed out as his black skull like helmet turned in her direction making direct eye contact with her. "I'm asking you for that one chance."
Leia sighed as she stared at Vader with a neutral expression. He was right to an extent, they knew nothing of this planet or its inhabitants. She hated to admit this, but he was right. "How do I know you won't turn me over?"
"Princess, haven't you figured it out yet? We're on our own. Give me a chance to prove to you that I can keep my word. I would be in debt to you, Princess. And I always repay my debts," Vader unhooked the lightsaber from his belt and held it out. The business end pointed towards him. "If it makes you feel any better, you may hold onto my lightsaber for the entire time we're stuck here. You can use it for whatever you need it for. Even if you choose to strike me in the back with it."
Leia frowned as she glanced at Artoo. "Artoo, take the lightsaber from him," she commanded the droid as Artoo rolled forward and opened a small compartment big enough for a couple of lightsabers to fit in. She didn't know that the compartment existed in the droid. Staying true to his word Vader placed the lightsaber in the compartment.
