She felt the salty tears spilling out of her eyes. How could she have totally misjudged him! This had to be true! He would hardly make up such scandalous falsehoods about his own sister. She suddenly recalled her surroundings and quickly wiped the tears from her eyes as soon as she saw Myriah stirring. Lizzy turned her head towards the window , just to insure that no trace of the tears on her face were seen . Lizzy stared out the window for less than a minute , before she was lost in her thoughts yet again. His face popped up every where in her thoughts , she wanted nothing more than to run to London and tell him that she was sorry for all that she had said . How could I have been so blind to Wickham's character , I am always a strong judge of character. She thought to her self. Myriah woke completely and asked :
"Where are we?"
Lizzy made no answer.
"Lizzy? Are you well?"
Lizzy snapped out of her thoughts.
"Oh , Yes! Quite well! I think we will be soon approaching the turnpike."
" I will be quite grateful for the chance to stretch my legs" Myriah said yawing.
" Yes , yes I shall be quite grateful for the distraction" Lizzy said limply.
The carriage pulled up to the turnpike , they waited for the carriage door to be opened. Myriah was silent checking that she had everything before she left the carriage. Once she was satisfied that she had everything , the door opened. They were no sooner out of the carriage and Lizzy heard her name being called from the in above them. She looked up and saw Lydia. Why was she not surprised?
"Lizzy , Myriah! Come up , we have a surprise for you!" Shouted Lydia from the window.
" We will be up directly!" Shouted Myriah in reply.
We went up to the parlor that Lydia and Kitty had rented. The table in the middle of the room it was full of food for lunch. Lizzy had barely realized how hungry she was. Her thoughts were occupied with other thoughts … featuring a certain gentleman.
"Oh my god what am I thinking! Less than 12 hours ago I HATED this man now I find myself thinking about him in every waking moment! Do I even like him ?" These thoughts crossed her mind before Lydia interrupted her train of thought.
"Lizzy we have some news that would interest you !"
"Oh and what would that be?" Lizzy replied with false interest.
"Kitty , watch to see if she blushes!" Lydia gushed.
Lizzy dismissed the servant in the room waiting to attend them.
"Continue Lydia." Lizzy said sedately.
" Well , it is official! 's courtship with Miss. King has ended!" Lydia said proudly.
"Do you think there was a strong attraction between them?" Myriah interrupetd.
"GOD NO , I shouldn't think that he cared two straws about her . Who could for such a small freckled little thing!" Lydia exclaimed.
"What say you Lizzy ?" Kitty said awaiting her response.
" Well Kitty , I say that is safe."
"AHAHAHA! Did you see how she blushed!" Bounded Lydia.
"And why would I blush Lydia? Lizzy asked slightly on edge.
"Well , Lizzy since you had such a strong liking to him before you left for Kent." Lydia said with excitement.
" Well , I can tell you for sure that the regard I once had for him is long diminished" Lizzy said with slight annoyance.
For the rest of the lunch Lizzy remained silent , with the blur of frantic voices catching up on the gossip of Meryton , she slipped back into thoughts about . She was beginning to think about him as more of a good friend than a mere acquaintance. That was before it occurred to her that she had not thought about his feelings that he had towards her. He had trusted her with that sensitive information about his sister , which most of her family did not know. She felt honored , this opened the door too more thoughts. " He must have quite a high regard for me that he would share this information with me ." "Where the feelings in which he conveyed to me in the parsonage true … does he love me?"
These thoughts were curtailed by Kitty as she called me to say that the carriage was waiting to take us back to Longbourne. Lizzy was a little disappointed as she thought she was on to something.
After what seemed like a VERY long carriage ride was at an end. They finally reached the gates of Longbourne. She really wanted to escape on a long walk but she knew that it would not be possible , her family would be waiting to hear EVERY detail about the " esteemed patroness" of and her £ 800 fireplace.
She got out of the carriage and her father embraced her and then instructed that the carriage be put back in the stables.
" My dear Lizzy , how I have missed you! I have not heard two words of sense together since you and Jane left."
"Well , I am back now ! Is Jane arrived yet with my aunt and uncle Gardiner.
"She is to arrive tomorrow , your uncle informed me yesterday."
" I hope she does not come back too bruised by the fact that made no attempt to contact her."
" Yes , yes … Im sure she will have a hard time getting over it , but if he should come back Jane sould have no problem forgiving him." Mr. Bennet retorted teasingly.
Lizzy hit him on the shoulder playfully. She could not help but think about the fact that it was fault that her most beloved sister was broken hearted. "THE LETTER" she exclaimed when she was unpacking. "Am I supposed to write back or wait?" as she got undressed to prepare for bed this thought plagued her mind. As soon as she was settled in bed she began to drift off into a peaceful sleep.
