Chapter 2
I was driving down to La Push, a smile in my eyes. I saw the small wooden house. The red paint was chipping off, making the house look like an old barn. As I pilled up to the house I saw Jacob peer out the window. My truck was noisy enough and it was familiar to him.
I hopped out of the truck. He walked up to me, smiling widely.
"Bella!" He said, excited. He pulled his long black hair into a pony-tail.
"Hey Jacob!" I was surprised. That sound coming from me was very foreign. I hadn't been this happy since⦠Well, for 5 months. I smiled back at Jacob. "You grew again!" I said, looking up at him.
He laughed. "Six five," he said, puffing his chest out.
"Is it ever going to stop? You're huge."
"Still a beanpole, though. Come inside! You're getting all wet."
I followed him inside the tiny house.
"Hey, Dad. Look who stopped by."
Billy, Jacob's father, wheeled forward, smiling.
"Well, what do you know! It's so good to see you, Bella."
We shook hands.
"What brings you here? Everything okay with Charlie?"
"Yes, absolutely. I just wanted to see Jacob-I haven't seen him in forever."
Jacob smiled widely.
"Can you stay for dinner?" Billy asked, eagerness in his voice.
"No, I've got to feed Charlie, you know."
"I'll call him now. He's always invited."
I laughed, trying to hide my discomfort.
"It's not like you'll never see me again. I promise, I'll be back again soon-so much you'll get sick of me," I said, thinking that Jacob could teach me how to ride the bike, too.
Billy chuckled.
"Okay, maybe next time."
