A PEACEFUL LIFE
The scene opened to a large room, where the dim sunlight streamed in from the windows and bathed its surroundings in warm light as the Sun began to set for the day, during the month of November. It was warm but chilly at the same time, as most of the occupants of the house would tell you, the signs of a chilly winter break coming upon them.
In the middle of this spacious room, a large oak round table remained, scattered with various papers related to homework and school books. On a wall across from the table, a large painting hung of two smiling couples, taken in the early stages of their marriage with a house looming behind them. The background behind the two couples was a home that had just been newly built, the home that they were stood in several years later watching their young children grow into adults. Two couples, their features different from each other, had now been passed onto their children, four of which were sat in the room.
On the round table, two sets of children, twins as it would seem, were seated; two with ebony black hair like their father, and the other two had variations of blond hair, one a white blonde and the other a darkened version with a hint of orange. The clock chimed to five p.m., and as one of the ebony haired figures looked up, it had been nearly thirty minutes since the four had returned from school and nearly fifteen minutes, since they sat at the table to complete their homework knowing that tomorrow would be another busy day in the lead up to their exams.
Darien and Drake Chiba were only ten years old, whilst the girls that sat across from them, were only seven, their names were Serena and Suzanne Moon. That had put a three year gap between their ages, but it made no difference to them with the differences, having grown up with each other from the moment the girls had been born and lured the boys into their holds once their eyes opened to greet the world around them. As the four sat quietly concentrating on the homework pieces in front of them, they were unaware when another occupant made their appearance, the woman's heels clicking softly against the tiled floor, as she stepped into the large dining/study room.
"Serena, it's nearly time for your break, darling." The woman called, bringing everyone out of their concentration, as she walked up to the table.
The woman was Gaea Chiba, and the mother of Darien and Drake Chiba.
She was currently one of the four owners of Silver Millennium Industries, a company that was built from the ground up in the early stages of her marriage. Gaea Chiba was a slender built woman, with wavy brown hair, currently tied into a bun at the back of her head with bright emerald green eyes and ruby red lips. She placed her hands on the edge of the table, and gave a soft smile as each of the four looked up at her with smiles of their own, yet for one occupant, the smile had not reached her eyes and had not for several months causing Gaea to slightly flinch at the memories of the events that had led to now.
"Yes Auntie Gaea." Serena smiled as she looked up from her homework, pressing a finger into the stiff joint at her neck and heard a small click. "I'll take a break after I finish dealing with this piece of homework, promise."
Serena Moon, despite being a young girl of seven, with silver blonde hair and baby blue eyes had suffered in the holidays from over a year ago and had suffered acute trauma from those events, which she and those around her were trying to forget about. She was essentially the apple of her mother's eye, and the main point of their worry since she and her sister had been born, mainly due to health concerns with her heart not beating normally. Her Aunt Gaea was the best friend of her mother, Serenity Moon, who was also the part owner of Silver Millennium Industries.
"I'll make sure to hold you to that promise, my dear." Gaea gave a small smile, and ran a hand down Serena's hair, brushing her hair away from her eyes. "Don't burn yourself out and forget like you did last time, we don't need another relapse and have you ending up in hospital."
"I won't." Serena replied with a small twitch on her nose, as she turned back to her homework. "I promise I'll take it in about 5-10 minutes."
"I know dear, but I have to make sure." Gaea stated, as she stepped over the other side of the table to check on her sons. "Your parents are already worried, and don't get me started on your Uncle."
**Especially given what happened in the past? ** Gaea thought as she bit her lip.
Serena looked up in shock, and nodded at the statement. Her father and Uncle Edward were currently busy dealing with the issues that their parents brought upon them on occasion, which caused them to be away from their wives and growing children. Jonathan and Edward did not like it since their wives had to take control of the business and its deals whilst they were away, leaving their children in the care of others and childminders as ordered by the Council.
"Is everything alright, Auntie Gaea?" Serena's twin, Suzanne, asked as she looked up from her homework.
**Serena should be resting and not sitting here. ** Suzanne thought with a slight scowl on her face, as she glanced at her sister from the corner of her eye. **Argh, I could swear that she's so stubborn half the time. **
"Suzanne!" Serena growled as she glanced at her sister before turning away. **This is unbelievable. She knows that I know what that look on her face means, and she still worries even though I'm fine. **
"What? I didn't do anything." Suzanne blanched as she turned to look at her sister with a small smile. "Go and take a break already, you've been doing that same question for god knows how long."
Suzanne Moon, Serena's younger twin by 5 minutes, was a girl with dark blonde hair and light blue eyes. Unfortunately to anyone who dared to cross the sisters, they would pay in an unfortunate circumstance, especially with the young girls having part of their father's fire within their small figures. To those who knew the girls, it was best to make them satisfied in all that they did rather than suffer their ire, especially with some having witnessed firsthand when they were displeased and someone else was in their line of fire. Gaea shook her head knowing that Suzanne had been more worried when her sister landed in hospital the first time, but had hidden it from the eyes of the world, ensuring she remained strong in the wake of the trauma that had wracked the two families in the months just gone.
Their younger siblings, two sisters and a brother were still under the care of the Council's care minder and would now start in pre-school until the New Year approached. They were unaware of the trauma their older sisters had faced, and would not be made aware until they were much older, yet much couldn't be said for their older brother who was currently away in a private school, possibly worrying needlessly about his siblings and parents. Both Serena and Suzanne shook their heads at the thought of their other siblings and turned to look at their aunt with smiles on their faces.
"Everything's going fine, to answer your question, Suzanne." Gaea smiled, as she glanced up to see the worry in light blue eyes. "Your father and uncle should be home by tomorrow or tonight if all goes according to plan."
**You are exactly like your father, Suzanne. ** Gaea thought with a sigh, and shook her head to clear her thoughts. **You and your sister have your mother's stubbornness, but the anger that your father holds, that much is certain. **
"That's good to hear, thank you Auntie." Suzanne stated as she looked up with a smile. "Do you know if mama will call later?"
Edward Chiba and Jonathan Moon were best friends since childhood much like their wives were, and were the other two owners of Silver Millennium Industries, despite rarely being in the building since their children had been born, but they could only follow the orders of the council to such an extent, where enough was enough. Edward Chiba had ebony black hair, and sapphire blue eyes which both of his eldest sons had inherited from him, whilst his friend Jonathan Moon had baby blue eyes and dark blonde hair, his features having been split to be engrained between his eldest daughters, and partly in some of his other children.
"I hope so." Serena murmured, as she returned to her homework.
**I hope mama and papa return home soon. ** Serena thought with a frown, as she glanced down at the sheet in front of her. **I miss them being here. **
"I know you miss your parents, dear, but they'll both be home soon." Gaea sighed, as she stepped over to pull Serena into a warm hug. "Your mother is still wrapping up that large business deal in San Francisco, and misses the both of you. However, I'm not aware if your mother will call later or not."
**That's good to hear; at least mama is bringing in things whilst papa is out doing other things. ** Serena thought with a light smile as she curled into her aunt's warmth. **Thankfully Aunt Gaea is still here with us. **
Serena nodded, and she was still thankful for her Aunt being there, as she pulled away from the comfort of her aunt's arms to return to her homework, so that she could take her break as quick as possible, instead of repeatedly procrastinating and glaring at the one question she couldn't move from. Her Aunt had partially cared for her and her siblings when they were infants, when there were times that her parents could not manage on their own, and she couldn't have been more grateful to have found a second mother in her aunt.
"How's Aunt Serenity's business deal going, mama?" Darien asked, as he looked up from his homework, sapphire blue eyes flashing.
Darien and Drake Chiba were identical in their features, mainly taking after their father, with ebony black hair and sapphire blue eyes. They barely had any of their mother's features in them, but they had held part of her personality, showing warmth to the two young girls opposite and any of the other people who deserved it. Under the core of their beings, they held fire and anger, the genetic trait belonging to their mother's side of the family, fierce in protecting loved ones no matter the cost especially if they had been hurt like Serena in her earlier attack during the months gone by. Darien's eyes darkened as he remember what had happened in the months gone by, and the comforting hand on his shoulder brought him quickly back to the present, shaking his head and refusing to dwell on the harsh memories.
Before snapping back to the words his mother spoke, his mind turned to his older sister, who like the Moon family's eldest son, was in a private school. Vanessa Aeolia Chiba had been worried when news of Serena's hospitalisation had reached her and Aiden at the private school, and could remember the arguments that followed over the phone. However, as he breathed out, he was thankful for the fact that their younger brothers and baby sister were not made aware and hopefully would not come to know about the issues that had been faced.
"It's going well." Gaea smiled, and she glanced over at her sons, hoping that she would get the girls as her daughters-in-law in the future, but there was only so much she could do. "She sends her love and luck and wants you all to concentrate on getting through the school year."
Thankfully Gaea was unaware of the blush that graced Serena's cheeks, when Darien smiled over at her, unknowing that the strings of fate were already beginning to pull the two soul mates together. Serena smiled in return, as her lashes lowered over her eyes and bent her head as she returned back to her homework, the red blush remaining on her cheeks even despite her sister catching the look. Suzanne sniggered as she caught the glance between the two, and her eyes lightened upon realisation that love would soon bloom and as she looked over at Drake, he nodded in return catching the same between their siblings.
"We may have some clients joining us in the future with this deal." Gaea breathed out, bringing everyone out of their thoughts once more, as she clapped her hands together. "So hopefully your mother should have extra time on her hands, after she returns home."
"Ah Auntie, are you certain?" Suzanne asked as her eyes brightened.
"Positive." Gaea chuckled as she nodded in Suzanne's direction. "Your mother is already worried that you and your siblings are growing up without her or your father here most of the time, so she'll see what to do and what she can do to free up her diary."
Suzanne nodded and returned to the work laid out in front of her, but not before glancing at Serena whose head was bent as she worked through the sheet. Gaea had also noticed Suzanne's brief glance to Serena, and had frowned upon noticing that the girl looked stuck, but as she looked towards the clock, she noticed it was near time for them to pack up for the day, and would have to ask tomorrow on what was happening regarding Serena's school work.
**Sweetie, take a break soon. ** Gaea's eyes darkened considerably as they landed on Serena's head, the issues in the past months coming to the forefront of her mind. **You're going to burn out soon, and neither of us needs a relapse to occur. **
"I need a break." Serena groaned, after a couple of minutes, looking up as the others blinked in shock at her. "See, Aunt Gaea, I made well on my promise, didn't I?"
"That you did, my dear." Gaea laughed as she looked at Serena.
Serena placed her pen back on the table, and rubbed the back of her neck, trying to release the tension that had put tight knots in the back of her neck, wincing in pain at the clicking noise that echoed softly through her bones. A yawn escaped her lips, as she stood from the table and stretched her arms out above her head, Serena's school top slightly rising above her midriff to reveal the white bandages underneath, whilst Gaea shook her head from the side before her emerald green eyes lightened in softness, waving the young girl away to have a walk around before returning to her schoolwork.
"Go and have a walk around, sweet pea." Gaea looked up and smiled, once she saw Serena stand from her seat. "You need to take your medicine on top, before you sleep, so don't forget."
"I won't, Auntie." Serena giggled, and glanced up at the clock, her eyes widening in shock. "Ack it's that time already!"
"Sweetie, you've forgotten in the past, considering how many times you've had to be woken from your sleep because of it." Gaea chuckled as she raised her eyebrow. "See you've forgotten something again, haven't you?"
"I promise I won't, this time." Serena stated with a smile, and jumped out of her chair as she walked out of the kitchen. "Momma said she'd message around this time and I want to let her know I'm not misbehaving."
It was the first time in over nearly five months since they had heard Serena giggle or laugh, and from the sound, the tension finally disappeared and a light was brought back into their lives. Serena stepped around her seat, and pushed the chair back into its place, as she moved away from the table and headed out for her normal breather. Of course, if her mother was messaging, it had made her more excited knowing that she still cared and missed them all during the periods where they had to leave their children alone with carers.
"Go on then." Gaea waved her off, shaking her head with laughter in her eyes. "I'm not going to pull you away from anything with your mother, dear one."
"I'll be back in ten minutes, Auntie." Serena stated as she smiled and skipped out of the room.
"Take as long as you need, dear." Gaea called out.
**I've missed that sound from you, dear. ** Gaea thought as she watched Serena walk out of the room. **I hope that light of yours never disappears. **
Since the incident that had happened in the Summer Holidays, it had been difficult for everyone to return to their normal routine. Now that Serena was smiling, it had brought light back into the darkness that covered the house. After five minutes had passed, Serena re-entered the room with her footsteps padding across the floor, followed by none other than her father as a scowl appeared on her slender features causing Gaea to raise a slender eyebrow. Frown lines appeared on her forehead, as she took her place besides her sister, yet her frown never diminished causing Suzanne to look over with a twitch of her nose, wondering what had gone on in the brief time that Serena was out. Gaea looked up with wide eyes, catching that Serena had not been gone for more than five minutes before her reappearance and turned to stare at the blond male who frowned in response to her look, and stuffed Serena's phone into his pocket.
"I thought the doctor asked you to be careful?" A male voice was heard to be asking.
"Papa, I'm fine." Serena scowled, as she stepped back into the room. "So I must have accidentally bumped into the counter, it's not like I'm hurt or that I have a bruise."
"I know that, sweet pea." Jonathan smiled, shaking his head at her as he followed her into the study room. "You know its only doctor's orders I'm following, since your mother is worried about you whilst she closes off the deal after she called two minutes back."
"Yes papa." Serena sighed with a light nod, as she returned to her place at the table, muttering the next phrase under her breath. "You and mama worry too much."
"What was that?" Jonathan asked with a smirk, hearing a small mutter.
"I didn't say anything, papa, you must be hearing things." Serena stated as she skipped over to her seat.
Suzanne looked up in shock, when Serena took her place again, and Serena couldn't help but shake her head as laughter glistened in her baby blue eyes. Suzanne quickly glanced between her sister and father wondering what was going on, seeing Serena jump at the question as she returned to her place at the table. The frown had quickly disappeared, with a bright smile appearing and lighting up her eyes as a growl slipped from her mouth, and returned back to her homework after shooting her father a glare.
"Dad, you're back?" Suzanne asked, as she looked up from her homework.
Jonathan chuckled, and moved over to place a kiss on his daughter's forehead, with a nod to her question, as Serena sat down at the table. Serena shook her head, as she glanced down at the homework sheet with a frown on her face, pulling a scrap piece of paper forward to try and work on the calculations. Serena scratched the side of her head as she tried to figure out the problem unknowing that Jonathan had caught the movement but made nothing of it as he turned away, raising an eyebrow as he turned to look over at Gaea and her sons, however Gaea had noticed that it was the same question and silently worried for the young woman.
"Yes I'm back." Jonathan answered as he moved to stand next to his wife's best friend, and looked over to Darien and Drake. "Boys, your father will be back by the week's end instead of tomorrow as originally planned."
"That's good, Uncle." Drake stated with a sharp nod.
"Is everything ok?" Darien asked, as he looked up briefly. **I hope everything's ok, it's never normal for dad not to call by now and inform us or mama with the issues. **
"He's just caught up in his work, but he'll be back before the end of week." Jonathan said with a nod knowing that the boys were worried as they had not heard anything from their father. **Edward, would it kill you to take some time away to contact your wife and sons instead of making me the messenger. **
"Of course, Uncle, thank you." Darien stated as he across the table at Serena, noting like his mother, the half completed worksheet that she needed to do. **Angel, whatever shall I do with you? **
**The boys will turn out strong exactly like their father. ** Jonathan thought with a smile as he walked around to stand next to Gaea. **Serena and Suzanne will be safe with them at the school and in their later years. **
Darien and Drake looked up and nodded at the Uncle's words, grateful to know that nothing bad had happened with their father. Their father would return home by the end of the week, and a smile would be brought back upon their mother's face. As the two bowed their heads towards their homework once more, they weren't aware of when Gaea had shared a glance with Jonathan, the worry beginning to flicker in her emerald green eyes. Darien's brief glance at Serena, caught out the fact she was still stuck on the same question, she had been on for ages despite the rest of the worksheet being partially filled out with workings.
"Jonathan, what happened?" Gaea asked, as she looked up at him.
**Oh God, I hope everything's ok? ** Gaea started to worry for her husband, and her eyes were showing it.
"The council called him to the Office." Jonathan whispered and shook his head at Gaea's worried look. "I'll explain more, later, when these ones are off to bed."
**I hope you're ok, Edward. ** Gaea thought as she nodded in agreement. **The Council keep pulling us away from seeing our children grow, and it needs to stop before we're too late. **
Gaea nodded, and turned back to look at the others on the table, and bit her lip. Jonathan sighed and shook his head, knowing Gaea would continue to worry until he explained the situation regarding Edward and the Council, as he turned back to look at his young daughters, with a slight frown. After a moment, he breathed out a sigh as he turned to look at the clock on the wall, noting that it was quarter past five in the evening and soon it would be time for the children to end their homework and prepare for dinner.
"Let them concentrate, Gaea." Jonathan caught her glance, and rested a hand on her shoulder. "Why don't we go and have that conversation?"
Gaea looked back at Jonathan and nodded, and began to make her way out of the room, whilst Jonathan turned back to their children before following her out of the room. As Gaea and Jonathan stopped at the entrance, they both turned back to the four children who were still sat at the middle table and frowned at each other, knowing that things would be going on behind the scenes which they could not stop.
"Guys, we're going to need to leave for a bit." Jonathan stated to their children as he turned away from Gaea. "Are you ok to be by yourselves for the time being?"
"Yes dad, we'll be fine." Suzanne answered as she looked up with a nod.
"If you need us, we'll be in the downstairs office." Gaea glanced quickly over at Jonathan, as they began to walk out of the room. "If you need us, just call the extension and we'll be here."
"Yes mother." Darien and Drake chimed in unison.
**Gods, they worry too much about us. ** It was the same thought on all of their minds.
Jonathan and Gaea walked out of the room once they heard confirmation, and the group were able to return to their homework. After about another hour of completing their homework, Serena's eyes began to droop, and she struggled to remain awake and keep her head upright at the same time. The pen from her fingers clattered to the table, and the trio looked up to notice that she was struggling to remain awake for another second longer, and looked between themselves, as Suzanne took the initiative, and stood from her seat.
"Serena, get some sleep." Suzanne caught her sister begin to drift, and rested a hand on Serena's shoulder.
**Don't be stubborn, please, Sere? ** Suzanne thought as her gaze lowered.
"I'll go in a minute, Suzy." Serena yawned, as she stood from her seat to place her homework in her bag, despite her legs shaking. "Let me just pack my stuff up and then I'll go and lie down."
"Serena!" Suzanne hissed, her eyes glistening in worry at her sister's condition. "Sit down for a bit before you fall down."
"I'm fine, you worry too much." Serena whispered as she turned away.
Serena yawned once more, and nearly lost her footing as she turned away from the table to retrieve her bag, when the medicine began taking effect. Darien jumped up from his seat, and caught Serena around her waist before she fell to the ground and hit her head, straining her previous injuries further, taking hold of one of her hands, the other going around her waist lest she collapse. Despite her stuttering complaints and the exhaustion clear on her face, her legs gave out refusing to hold her weight any further and she collapsed in Darien's arms. A couple of moments later, the group were unaware when Gaea and Jonathan had made their appearance, but Jonathan's voice snapped everyone from their thoughts.
"Let me guess?" The sound of her father speaking had Suzanne look up. "It's most likely the medicine she took."
"It looks like it." Gaea sighed by his side, and shook her head slightly. "She looks so innocent."
"Gaea!" Jonathan hissed harshly, as he glared at her with a frown. "Keep quiet, and let her sleep, as it is you're being too noisy."
"What?" Gaea blanched as she held her hands up. "You know that I'm telling the truth about this."
**Thank God she's sleeping. ** Gaea thought as she smiled. **I hope nothing disturbs her rest for the whole of the night. **
Jonathan and Gaea were stood in the doorway and noticed that Serena was sleeping in Darien's arms. Jonathan shook his head and strode forward, knowing that the medicine had taken effect and nothing would disturb Serena until the morning, which meant that she would miss dinner, and they would need to note it in the planner, in case further issues arose in the future. Jonathan lifted Serena into his arms gently, pulling her away from Darien, and watched as she curled deeper into his chest, as she slept peacefully and smiled softly. The group heard a small murmur echo past her lips as she curled into the warmth her father provided as he held her in his arms.
"Darien, are you able to stay with her tonight?" Gaea asked, as she watched Jonathan pick Serena up. "Someone will need to watch her until dinner at least."
"Yes mama, I can." Darien murmured, and stood from his place on the floor. "I'll be down for dinner later on, or fetch a plate in case she wakes."
"Follow me then, Darien." Jonathan called, as he strode out of the room. "Hopefully she won't wake; at least that's what we're expecting, based on what the doctors have prescribed."
"Of course, Uncle." Darien muttered as he nodded. "Let's hope she has a proper nights rest."
**I hope Serena will remain asleep. ** Darien thought with a frown as he looked at her sleeping figure. **She looks like she needs it more than anyone or anything else. **
"Don't take too long to catch up." Jonathan called over his shoulder, as he walked out of the room.
Darien nodded in agreement, and nearly ran out of the room, in his haste to follow his uncle to Serena's room. Jonathan was generally a fast walker, and nothing would interrupt his walk to get to his destination, which in this case was to place Serena in the soft comforts of her bed.
As Darien, Jonathan and Serena left; Gaea smiled and walked forward to help Drake and Suzanne deal with the remaining materials that were left on the table. Drake was unaware of his mother's gaze on him, as she thought about something in relation to him and Darien, whilst Drake continued to handle packing his and Darien's bags in preparation for tomorrow's school day.
**You and your brother will break a lot of hearts once you're older. ** Gaea smiled as she thought to herself.
"Guys, off to your room once your done." Gaea stated as she clapped her hands. "I'll call you down when dinner is ready."
"Yes mother." Drake stated as he quickly glanced up.
**Mother isn't normally like this, I wonder what happened? ** Drake thought as he returned to packing his stuff.
Once they were done and the table was cleared of all study materials and books, the trio left the room and made their ways to their separate rooms. The morning, however, would bring more challenges than was expected especially in the wake of the issues from the last couple of months, and with Serena missing a meal last night.
Soon hours had passed and it was already about quarter past six in the morning. Darien, Drake, Suzanne and Serena were found in the main room, wearing the winter version of their school uniform, as Jonathan and Gaea stood opposite them looking upon them with pride, but as Serena frowned she looked over to her sister, knowing that there was no way they could tell their parents of the issues ongoing at school, especially with Serena trying to hide her identity in case of another attack. The boys had noticed their silence and looked over, knowing exactly what they were feeling especially with the recent attacks and Serena's actual self being revealed.
The school uniform for the girls, in the winter, consisted of grey knee high skirts with tights or trousers, light green long sleeved shirts, with an optional plain warm top under, a white tie with pink strips. The v neck during the winter was optional, and had to be black with three white stripes running across the collar, with a dark grey blazer with the school's logo.
The school uniform for the boys was a white long sleeved shirt, black v neck sweater with three grey stripes (optional), dark grey blazer with school logo on the breast pocket, and a tie that was white with dark yellow stripes. The school logo was an orange phoenix with the letters MSS under it, with its wings spread for flight on a light blue background.
"If there are any issues, call us." Jonathan stated, as his eyes glanced at his daughters.
"Yes papa." Serena and Suzanne answered, as they stood in woollen coats with their bags on their shoulders.
"Be careful." Gaea called as she raised her hand to wave. "Call us or send a message as soon as you get on school grounds as well."
**I hope nothing goes wrong, it looks so dark outside. ** Gaea bit her lip as she turned away. **Please goddess; keep them safe, all of them throughout the school day. **
Darien and Drake nodded, though the four were thankful that their parents sat on the schools' governing body, and put money into the school, given they were also stakeholders. They only had about 3 to 4 weeks before school let out for the Christmas break, being that they were only in the second week of November. The group could hear it as the rain poured heavily outside and Drake sighed as he walked over to grab two large umbrellas by the door, and walked out of the house with Darien by his side, even as Serena paled and jumped at the sound of lightening especially since it had been accompanied by the sound of thunder. A slight squeal of fright echoed as the sound of rumbling thunder echoed, followed by a powerful flash of lightning, as Serena curled up into Darien, clutching his blazer in a death grip as Darien's arms wrapped around her in comfort.
"Bye Mum, Bye Uncle." Darien and Drake called, as they walked out of the house.
"Bye Dad, Bye Auntie." Serena and Suzanne waved as they followed the boys out, Serena's voice sounding timid.
"Bye guys, have a lovely day at school." Gaea called as she waved to the four.
**Oh god, I hope they remain safe at school with the weather the way it is. ** Gaea thought as she watched the door close.
As they left the house and sat in the transport that would take them to school, they prayed to have a normal day. But what school day was ever normal for them, given that they were the heirs to Silver Millennium Industries and its accompanied franchises, and would take over full responsibility from their parents when they grew older. The four and their older siblings already were being shown certain paperwork which they knew would only grow as they reached the age where they could take partial responsibility off their parents.
"I don't like this weather." Serena sniffled and shivered, as she sat next to Darien. "It's too cold; I thought that they said it would be warm and bright with the Sun out, and not this horrid weather."
"Are you going to be ok, Sere?" Suzanne asked, as she looked across to her sister. "You look like you're going to fall over at any moment."
**She's right, the weather is not normal. ** Suzanne thought with a frown. **How can the weather change to the exact opposite of what had been forecast the day before. **
"I don't know, I just don't like this weather." Serena blinked, as she turned away from the outside world to look at her twin. "If I need you during the day, I'll promise to call or text or something."
**I don't like this, if Serena's unwell, it's going to be difficult to keep an eye on her. ** Darien cursed his fate, as he held Serena's shaking hands in his tight grip. **Please make the weather better. **
Serena's hand twitched between Darien's own, and she smiled as she rested her head against his shoulder feeling her eyes begin to drift shut, when the car began to move off. When Serena was asleep, Darien glanced down at her head of hair and frowned slightly, whilst Suzanne and Drake glanced over to notice that Serena was now asleep in Darien's arms.
"Get Katie's group to keep an eye on her." Drake muttered, as he caught the look on Darien's face. "It's not going to be safe at all, especially if things turn hectic on grounds, and the cliques turn rowdy."
"We'll decide on the facts when we get to school grounds, Drake." Darien stated, as he glared at his brother with a frown. "We still have a meeting with the populars, here's hoping they'll show up."
"It'll have to be done inside." Drake replied and turned to look out of the window. "There must be another place big enough to accommodate all of us? The normal rooms will be locked off from use until school starts up."
**I wonder what we'll have to do. ** Drake thought with a frown. **Everything is so complicated, especially with Sere's health. **
"With the weather, it'll be more than utter chaos and mayhem." Suzanne cursed as she looked at Darien and Drake, and frowned remembering what happened last time. "The school admin need to be kicked into shape."
Serena murmured an agreement as she shifted in her sleep because no one listened to the populars and still wanted to venture into the downpour. Unless the school was in lockdown, nothing would be happening except for the arguments across the halls between other cliques and the populars, or between teachers and administrators to wanting to know what was happening. It was something that she would not look forward to as she raised a hand to her aching forehead, massaging away the oncoming migraine, as the car travelled across the unsteady road and causing her to jump awake. Darien sighed and rested his hands on her shoulders, beginning to massage her aching muscles as he looked at his brother and Suzanne.
"I'll walk with her when we get near to the stopping point." Serena heard Darien mutter as her eyes widened.
"I'll be fine." Serena complained, as she slowly glanced up at him.
"The weather is horrid enough, Serena, and it's way too dark on the streets for you to be walking alone." Darien growled, as he looked out of the window for a brief moment, before turning back to face Serena. "It's not that I don't trust you, it's just that I don't want you to get ill."
"It sounds like a good idea." Suzanne murmured her agreement. "Don't look at me like that, Sere, we're doing this because we're worried."
"Suzy, that's not fair." Serena wailed, when she glanced up at her sister's agreement.
"Serena, it'll be much darker on the streets with the weather the way it is." Suzanne stated, as she took in her sister's appearance. "We're only worried about you. If something happens and we're not there, when you're walking alone, I don't know what we'll be able to do."
Serena bent her head, knowing that they were only thinking of her safety, especially given her status within the school. Serena could only sigh out in frustration, as she looked back up at her sister and nodded in agreement to her earlier words. They did not need another encounter like what had happened in the Summer Holidays, and Suzanne could only smile in return at her sister's agreement, as she reached forward to squeeze Serena's hand in comfort.
As the outside scenery began to change, Serena knew it was time, and with a twitch of her nose, her white blonde hair darkened under glamour to become dark blonde, like Suzanne's own. Her eyes darkened, and held a hint of black, no longer showing the soft baby blue eyes, and snow white skin darkened to look like she had been graced with a tan. By the slight change, as the glamour took hold, the group of four knew that their means of protection was up and running. All they hoped for now was that no hell would break loose in school.
"Oh, before I forget." Suzanne clicked her fingers as a thought came to mind.
Serena blinked and shook her head at her twin's forgetfulness. Darien and Drake, however, stared at Suzanne in shock, being surprised at the sudden movement. Suzanne bent down to retrieve a plastic bag, which was sitting by her feet, yet judging by its position it was unnoticeable to the other three until Suzanne had bent to retrieve it.
"Suzanne?" Drake asked as he raised an eyebrow in question. **This isn't like her, she normally doesn't forget. **
"Sorry guys, I probably just got lost in the conversation." Suzanne stated as she looked at Serena and Darien, and shook her head. **I really shouldn't have forgotten about this, especially when it concerns Sere's safety. **
Suzanne giggled, and wrinkled her nose, at Drake's question knowing exactly what was being hinted at. The four knew each other like the back of their hands whilst growing up, and Suzanne clicked her tongue as she reached into bag, placing it on her lap and drew out a medium sized jewellery box. The same box, she handed over into her sister's hands, already knowing what the contents that were in it were.
Serena took a hold of the box, and placed it carefully onto her lap, and opened it to see a matching necklace and bracelet set. Drake and Darien looked over, and noticed the gleam coming from the design, realising what it was for. The bracelet and necklace were golden encrusted but the charms on them were ruby jewels with a small chip inside.
"Suzanne, is that what I think it is?" Drake asked, as he sat back in his seat.
Suzanne nodded as she turned back to look at her sister, and judging by Serena's reaction, she was shocked by what she had in front of her. Darien shook his head when he caught the insignia design on the top of the box, knowing exactly who had given this particular gift to Suzanne, in regards to Serena's protection whilst they weren't around her at school. He didn't need to ask the question because Suzanne had just answered it for him and the others.
"Collin gave it to me about a week ago, and said I'd need to give it to Serena when the time was right." Suzanne stated, as she glanced over at her sister. "I thought that now was the right time, especially with the weather the way it is."
"So the lower Council can keep an eye?" Darien stated, as he settled back into his seat.
"We'll be able to keep an eye on top." Suzanne murmured, as she turned her attention to the window. "Whilst Serena isn't with us, it'll work as a secondary means of protection."
**Hopefully it doesn't get broken easily. ** Serena and Suzanne thought similarly as Serena looked down at the necklace.
Suzanne turned from the window to see the light smile gracing her sister's features, and knew she had silently agreed.
Once Serena put the bracelet and necklace on herself, she leaned over to let Suzanne switch the two trackers. Suzanne twisted a button, barely visible to anyone except themselves, and the sound of a series of beeps being emitted from the two items before they became silent and were hidden under articles of clothing, namely hidden under Serena's school shirt.
"You two better get ready." Drake called and broke the silence.
Serena turned to look out of the car window, and saw a familiar sight - the sight of a street of houses - knowing that they were getting close to stopping. Serena giggled once more, and shared a hug with her sister, before glancing over at Darien with a slender raised eyebrow and Darien smirked as he realised what was being asked.
"Up we get." Darien chuckled, as he pulled a large umbrella out from the side.
"I'm going, I'm going." Serena laughed, as Darien gave a slight push at her shoulder. "You're too annoying, Darien."
"You're too slow." Darien muttered with a smirk. "Chop, chop, out we go!"
"I am not!" Serena yelped as she turned to glare at him. "Darien!"
As the car finally came to a stop, the car door opened, and Serena stepped out on unsteady legs nearly falling back if it wasn't for Darien, who followed close behind, and brought the umbrella up over their heads, closing the door behind him, with the duo waving to their twins as the car drove off to the remaining distance left between them and the school.
"Come on, Dimi." Serena scowled, as she looked out onto the street. **Why does it have to rain today of all days? **
"What's the rush, Luna?" Darien breathed, as he pulled her slight form closer to his side. "I'm not in rush to go anywhere, and neither should you?"
"I don't want your team to bite my head off." Serena squeaked, as she struggled against him.
"They won't." Darien whispered as he glanced at her. "Especially if they know what's good for them."
Serena looked like she was about to argue, but Darien pulled her into his arms, and placed a kiss on the top of her head before pulling away and a sharp gasp escaped her lips. Darien pulled back and looked at her glazed eyes, chuckling to himself as the duo began to walk the distance to the school. The car that would have normally took them to school, had already left them, and as Darien looked at the street ahead, a sigh escaped knowing that there was walking that still needed to be done.
Darien felt a slight pressure on his arms, and looked down to notice that Serena was curled up into his side and gripping tightly to his blazer, yet a smile appeared as he shook his head. They knew they'd be at least an hour early for school, and it would be another 10 minutes until the school doors opened, but the meeting with the popular team had called them out of the warmth of their house, and was most important as they needed to deal with certain matters. It would take at least fifteen minutes for the duo to walk to the gates, and another ten minutes to get into school grounds from the front gates, as there was quite a long path in.
It didn't matter to them, because the only thing that mattered now was that they were happy and in a time of peace, even as Serena and Darien conversed quietly amongst themselves, before Serena's head fell back and the delightful sound of laughter sounded once more.

A.N: A major change. Yes I keep changing it, but I've tried to make it easier to read. Serena's father is introduced, with Darien's mother. I believe in the old version, we had Serena's mother and Darien's father make an appearance but they will make an appearance in later chapters whilst the four continue to school. Serena's and Darien's other siblings will be appearing later on in the story but right now, we'll be concentrating on the four.
To those that are new readers, welcome and I hope you enjoy this story. If you are a flamer, I don't want to know you, so I suggest if you want to do what the name implies, turn away immediately from this story or you will be reported. Constructive criticism is welcome, flamers are not!
Please don't forget to leave me a review or PM me privately, and I'll see you guys in the next chapter :)
