"Aren't you supposed to be in command, Spock?" I asked him. He raised his eyebrow and looked at me.
"Yes, Doctor, I am. I have asked Mr. Scott to look over the bridge while I came to ask you about the captain." I rolled my eyes.
"Well, are you going to ask about him or not?"
"How is he, Doctor McCoy?" the Vulcan asked his "much anticipated" question.
"Well, he's alive. That's one thing. All his vitals are okay. I gave him a balancing sedative a few minutes ago," I turned from Spock to look at Jim. "My God!" I screamed. Jim had turned blue! I grabbed my kit and pulled out my medical scanner. He was losing blood somehow! Damn! I grabbed his arm and injected a couple pints in. The blue tint faded, but it was still there.
"Nurse Chapel! I need some AB negative blood! HURRY!"
"Doctor, we don't have any!"
"Damn it! Bjorn, what is your blood type?" I was scared. I didn't have it. Spock's green blood was useless.
"AB negative, sir," he replied, a grin crossing his thin face. "Take as much as you need, sir," he said, stretching his arm forward. I practically kissed the ensign. I took about four pints and pumped them into Jim. Spock stood there looking mildly surprised. By this I mean his eyebrow was raised, and his lips were pursed. Bjorn looked a little woozy, so I gave him a juice box and couple cookies I'd picked up at the last Star Base. He looked grateful at the food. I patted him on the head again and told him I'd tell the captain to put him in line of promotion and make sure he'd get some sort of medal for valour. He seemed happy. I turned to Spock and took a deep breath.
"Well, Spock, congratulations. Your captain almost died, and you stand there as emotionless as ever. Hope you're happy with your decision, sir," I said the last word with distain. Why the hell had Star Fleet put Spock as second in command? Scotty would have been just as good even if he is a bit less experienced! I like Scotty better at that!
"I am going back to the Bridge, Doctor. Please send reports on the captain every hour. Thank you." Before I could respond, Spock was gone.
"I hate you, too," I called to the closed doors.
