-Chapter Two-
BPOV
"What did you wish for baby?" my daddy asked me as soon as I blew the candles out; I shook my head and said "You're not supposed to tell anyone"
"Charlie do you smell smoke?" Momma asked dad
"The candles" he replied gesturing toward my cake.
"Mummy, daddy come and sees something I have to show you!" I shouted getting up from my chair. "But what about that cake" momma fretted
"Now please" I wined.
I raced up the stairs with momma and daddy following behind me. In my room I went over toward my bed, lifting the pillow I took the tooth that had fallen out last night and I held it high for them to see.
"I forgot to show you this morning when I got up" Momma shook her head smiling and holding her hand out for the tooth.
" Well sweetheart when you lose a tooth you usually get a treasure from the tooth fairy but she only comes out at night so I guess just for now I'll have to give you something" daddy said pulling out his wallet and handing me a five dollar note. That's when I smelt it.
"I smell smoke!" I echoed my mother's words from before. They both sniffed the air and gasped. We all ran from the room towards the stairs but were pulled short at the sight we saw below us. Fire covered every surface of the lower level. And thick clouds of smoke were emitting up. Momma screamed and scooped me up in her arms, holding my face against her chest, blocking me from seeing anything.
My mother must have fallen because the next thing I knew I was on the floor with her lying beside me. Smoke curled around us and I coughed. Momma wasn't getting up I soon realized as I tried to shake her. I suddenly heard a gun shot only then I noticing that daddy was nowhere to be seen.
"Daddy help us!" I screamed in terror. It was getting hard to breath and I coughed again.
A tall man approached us. It wasn't daddy.
"Daddy won't be coming back to help anyone ever" the man said silkily. Through the haze I tried to see what he looked like. His light brown hair was pulled back into a pony tail with sharp evil features.
He bent down and yanked me up by my arm. I whimpered and struggled against him, but I was weak and couldn't breathe.
He produced a gun from his jacket and coughing a little as he pointed it at my mother.
He held me in his strong grip away from my mother's body and he pulled the trigger.
"Nooooooo!" I cried and thrashed against the monster, the smoke became too much for me, filling my lungs as I opened to my mouth to scream. My mind shut down fast and I dropped into a heavy unconsciousness.
* * *
Someone was shaking me roughly and I drew back my heavy lids. The face I saw leaning over me was stunningly handsome and beautiful.
"Are you alright?" the man asked gently. I stared hard at him with his Bronze tousled hair and perfect straight pale features. He was like a prince from a fairy tale.
Only as he asked me of my well-being did I really feel the crispiness in my throat and my lungs working tirelessly to provide clean air in them.
I was sitting on the ground in the forest just out side my house. I could see through the tree tops, smoke was curling into the sky and the air smelt of ash.
"Where. - Where- am I? I stuttered I knew where I was but I needed to be reassured.
"You're in the woods just out side your home; your house was set on fire. I saved you."
"Where are momma and daddy?" I asked. He hesitated and replied slowly "Your mum and dad were killed by whoever set fire to your house"
"No, I don't believe you!" I shouted at the beautiful stranger. I got up and tried to run toward home, but I tripped and fell over grazing my knee.
He was beside me in an instant. "I'm sorry, but I'm not lying." And with that he picked me up and ran toward the edge of the trees where they connected to the back lawn. He ran faster then I thought possible and the skin on his arms was ice cold.
He laid me down and I looked up at what was left of my home, the roof had fallen in and flames still could still be seen through all the windows. Smog raised high into the air and covered the sky. Somewhere I could hear the sirens.
As though he was reading my thoughts my savior spoke "The fire brigade is on their way. I must leave now. Don't go near the house, wait here until someone comes and finds you. Do you hear me?" the golden eyes mesmerized me and I couldn't look away. Then all the sudden like the smoke had carried him away, my hero had vanished.
