A/N: Sorry? I'm going to try to finish this one and Blood and Each Other. I'll try to get a short chapter out each week (something's better than nothing, right?).
This chapter goes out to vampygurl402 - who has been on the verge of SPAMing my PM begging for updates. But it worked.
Chapter 2
The path from the future mirror to the past mirror was not a linear path but more of a big ball of wibbly wobbly. Harry discovered that many more years had passed in the past than he had lived in the future. Stepping though the mirror, he was surprised to see a town at the summit of the mountain that held the cave with his mirror that he had warded himself (thank you very much!). Exploring around, he learned that the mountain repelled the demon monsters that he had, unfortunately, encountered in his last trip through the mirror (compliments of his wards -thank you very much indeed!).
As a wizard, it was very easy for Harry to explore and to do so very comfortably - he had his wizards' expandable tent, his invisibility cloak, and he had even dusted off and brought an old amulet that would hide his scent from the many voracious demons . The amulet had been a courting gift from his ex-fiancé (which is still a story for another time) that Harry was only using begrudgingly, since it brought back bad memories but still a necessity after the way he was constantly attacked because of his scent the last time he had used the mirror. It hung on a necklace around his neck, while the tent was in his mole skin pouch with other essentials, and his invisibility cloak was always kept in the pocket of his travelling cloak (just letting you know in case any of you wanted to steal anything).
Harry travelled for a good bit and his wanderlust may have eventually gotten him all the way back to Great Britain from Japan (and this story would be a lot less interesting) had Harry not stumbled over the dragon egg (see, I told you so). The story goes: Harry is just walking along minding his own business and doing some deep personal reflection when he happens upon a merry campfire. Not so merry were three lumbering...Harry honestly didn't know if they Mountain trolls or demons that looked similar (let's just call them trolls though), roasting a small dragon over the fire on a spit. Harry, having spent a great deal of time as dragon trainer, was already incensed by the scene, also a bit worried (didn't they know that eating dragon's flesh caused Gold Sickness?). Harry was also upset because he recognized the dragon breed, Sui Riu*, from history books as a dragon that is extinct in Harry's own time. Harry was just debating about getting some payback or just letting nature (and the gold sickness) take its course when he heard the trolls speaking.
"Eh," grunted one, "can we eats the egg now, 'm tired of waiting un' hungry."
"Nah," grunted back another, "that one's breakfast."
And so Harry's hero instinct (which honestly has been shriveling through the years) took control and five minutes later, with the trolls none the wiser (thank you magic), Harry was the proud mother of one Sui Riu dragon egg and was forced to settle down for a bit and raise it.
Now, Harry wouldn't call himself a hermit in the years that follow, but you and I probably would. He carved out a section of land for himself and warded it against all manner of beast and muggle. It was a beautiful little section of paradise with a stream edging around one border that led to a small lake, fields of wild flowers, a bit of tree cover, a cliff with some great caves for dragon dens, and a small hill in the middle that overlooked it all which is where Harry used his magic to help him build a small cabin. Harry rarely left his bit of paradise except to wander out for some fresh fish to restock the lake. I don't know if you know this, but the Sui Riu is a water dragon, flightless in the air but it can swim very well under the water and as a defense, can spit water. They don't grow as large as other dragons and so they are the perfect lake pet. Harry named the dragon Kelpie for the way it would ambush its prey in the water.
Without constant human contact, Harry had kind of let a few things go - his clothes had holes in them and were singed in some places. His beard had blossomed to a full warlock's beard that would make Dumbledore proud and his hair had also grown out. So while Harry would not call himself a hermit, you or I would (luckily his hermit ways are drawing to an end and we can be rid of this messy clothes and beard thing soon).
Sometimes Harry would stroll, under his invisibility cloak, through a town to listen for any rumors of dragons. As the only dragon tamer of this time period, Harry felt the responsibility to ward around dragon territories to help everyone remain a little bit safer. Sometimes, Harry heard rumors of people who have stolen dragon eggs, and have somehow lived to tell the tale, and Harry will go and liberate them back. Sometimes, the nesting dragon has moved on and Harry has to keep the egg himself. That's how Harry got his second dragon. It was a long way from home and one of his favorites, a Hungarian Horntail. Harry's final dragon found him. Injured, it had collapsed right at his doorstep. It was also a bit away from home as it was a Chinese Fireball.
So, needless to say, Harry had his hands quite full keeping up with the needs of his three very different dragons. The Chinese Fireball had a very mellow personality but needed a lot of medical care. Harry name this dragon Sweetie. The Horntail could be vicious if ignored for too long, so Harry had to make sure to join him in the air on his broom and play with him using a ball that reminded Harry a bit of a quaffle, which is how the Horntail got the name of Chaser.
There are lots of heart-warming stories to be told about Harry's time with his dragons, but frankly, that's not what this story is about. So let's jump forward a bit in this tale to when all the action and romance happens.
So, some years later, yadda yadda, Harry was content but a long way from coming to terms with his past or his impending immortality. For now it was enough to let his dragons distract him.
Until the wards came crashing down one peaceful sunny afternoon.
"KAZE NO KIZU!"
A/N: I really want to know how this story is going to end so I'm going to try to finish it. So far, so tame, but remember this is rated M for a reason.
*Borrowed from Temeraire, and really changed alot about it other than the fact that it uses water.
