Inuyasha was collecting wood in the Sacred Forest when the thundering howl reached him, resonating with his body, reaching to the very core of his soul. The urge to run directly to the owner of such intense voice was overwhelming. Inuyasha would have gone to it, if not for the worried voice of his wife, Kagome.

- What was that?

- War, - shakily muttered Inuyasha – the Western Lands have been threatened with destruction – he finished hardly prying his eyes from the direction of the howl.

- War? – In disbelieve echoed Kagome.

The howl has repeated a few more times, forcing every living being to halt whatever they were doing. Even ignorant village people felt the terrible chill run up their spines.

Later that evening, as Inuyasha and Kagome were packing things a guest turned up. Sesshomaru in his always-perfect robes appeared as if from nowhere, neither Jaken nor Rin was accompanying him. Sesshomaru meant serious business. Maybe that is why none warm or at least formal greetings were exchanged, or maybe just none were needed. They understood well enough the basic wishes of each other: to fight, to protect, and to win.

- The defending army is being formed – coldly stated Sesshomaru.

- I am coming – eagerly stepping forward announced Inuyasha.

- No, - said Kagome stepping out of the hut – it is we, who are coming.
