Slowly but surely Cal's condition became more stable. Connie had managed to tie off the artery in his arm. Lofty had already began to dress the wound. Cal was still lying ion the blood soaked sheets completely unconscious. Ethan took his hand. 'I'm sorry, i should have helped you before, will you forgive me?' He whispered. A muffled groan came from the bed as Ethan spoke. 'Cal?' Ethan quizzed. The groan came again only slightly louder. It was definitely coming from Cal. 'Hey, its okay. I'm here' Ethan said soothing placing his hand on his brother's shoulder to calm him. 'I'm not going anywhere' he said as he sat back on the chair. He took Cal's hand in his again. After a few minutes he felt someone squeezing his hand tightly. He looked up to find Cal looking at him expectantly. 'Oh Cal' he smiled as a single tear slowly ran down his face. 'Ethan, what happened?' Cal asked confusedly. 'You were stabbed, remember?' He responded. 'Ah yes' Cal smiled weakly. Suddenly he gasped in pain. The smile fell from Ethan's face and was replaced with a look of concern. 'What is it?' He asked jumping up out of the chair. 'Hurts' was all Cal managed to say before he collapsed back onto the crisp pillows in agony. Ethan pressed the emergency button on the wall to alert a nurse. Lofty entered the room. 'Can I get 5 of morphine please' Ethan asked. Lofty handed him the syringe and Ethan slowly administered the medication into his brothers arm. 'Lets get him a litre of saline and I'll insert a cannula.' He said as he began to prepare his equipment. He wasn't supposed to treat Cal because they were family but in this instance it seemed petty to get another doctor when he was already capable of doing this and the other doctors were busy dealing with an RTC. First he tied a tourniquet around his brother's arm and cleaned the area where he would be working. He removed the protective cover from the cannula. His hands were shaking as he attempted to insert it. 'Steady Ethan' he told himself. Lofty placed a hand encouragingly on his shoulder as he attempted again. He gently rested his hand against his brother's arm as he carefully slide the cannula into his arm, piercing the pale skin and moving it into place. He taped it securely in position and then attached the saline. Once it was finished he sat back sighing in relief.
