AN: Hi! Thanks to everyone that followed, favorited, or left a review, it really means a lot to me. I know this update came really soon but they will probably going to be a little delayed for now on. I'll try to make a steady update schedule but I'm not the most organized of people and I have summer homework that I haven't even started yet. As for the actual story, it will start out a few years before the show starts and there probably will be a time skip after a few chapters to the middle of the first season. I think that's it so enjoy!

New Beginnings

It took three days for me to find out Selina was Catwoman.

Selina was out running some errands so I was in the apartment alone. I got bored pretty quickly and, against my better judgment, decided to snoop around. Sneaking into Selina's room, I was instantly drawn to the closet. The huge size was shocking and I was stunned even more by the amount of clothes in it. Stepping inside, my eye catches on something shiny in the corner.

Digging through a pile of sweaters, I come across something that stole my breath. Pulling out the carefully concealed bundle, I run out into the living room so I could look at it better. I carefully laid out each piece of the outfit on the ground and studied them intensely.

Selina finds me like that an hour later. Seeing me on the floor, her mouth goes into a hard line and she walks into the kitchen to put the grocery bags away. Walking back in the living room, she sits on the floor across from me and starts to fold the clothes.

"Why?"

Her hands hesitate for a second before continuing. "You're going to have to expand on that a little more, Honey."

"Why did you save me? Why did you even adopt me? How did this even start?" I gesture my hands wildly around me. She sighs and folds her hands on her lap.

"You're probably not going to believe me when I say this but you and I had very similar starts. I started stealing so I wouldn't have to do that anymore. When I saw you in the alley, I saw myself in your eyes and I needed to protect you."

Selina looks up as she says the last part and holds my gaze as I process her words. Breaking her gaze, I look down at the now folded outfit.

"Can I help?"

Sapphire eyes widen and Selina opens her mouth to say something but I cut her off. "I know you don't just steal, you help people. People like me. That's what I want to do. If I need to learn to steal to do it, then I will."

Selina and I have a stare off before she sighs and shakes her head. "If I didn't know any better, I would say we were related."

Knowing she was saying yes, my face breaks out in a grin and I throw my arms around her neck. She sits there for a second before hugging back.

For the next couple of weeks, Selina teaches me in the art of stealth and fighting. I am proud to say I learn pretty quickly. The only thing bugging me was I couldn't settle on a name for neither my actual self nor my alter ego. Selina suggested names every day and I finally choose Shadow Cat for my thief name.

One night Selina comes into my room while I'm reading with a sly grin. Suspicious, I set down my book and sit up. Making sure she had my full attention, Selina announces, "Suit up, we're leaving in twenty minutes."

She laughs as I automatically shoot off my bed and into my closet. Selina tailored one of her old suits down so I could wear it. I'm ready in under ten minutes and run out into the living room. By the time Selina joins me, I was jumping up and down in excitement. Pulling down my goggles, I jump out of the window after her.

"What are we doing exactly?" I ask as we land on the next rooftop.

"We're meeting up with an old friend of mine and we might do a little 'shopping' after." Her eyes light up mischievously and I let out an airy laugh.

Following her to the other side of Gotham, I start to wonder about who her friend might be. She leads me to an old Greenhouse and we slip in through the back entrance. Walking into the middle of the garden, I stop to admire some vines. Growing on them were claw-shaped turquoise flowers.

"Aren't they remarkable?" I spin around to see a green-skinned woman walking towards me. "They even glow in the dark."

"They're beautiful, what are they called?" I ask timidly, knowing who the woman was.

"Jade vines. I believe we haven't met. I'm Poison Ivy and you are?" The plant villainous asks, peering down at me.

Trying my best to look confident, I reply, "Shadow Cat."

"I've see you met my new protégé, Ivy," Catwoman comments as she appears next to me.

"Yes, it's always nice to meet someone who admires my flowers," Ivy replies, leaning back on the rail and crossing her arms. "Does she have the same taste in jewels as she has in plants?"

Catwoman chuckles and puts a hand on my shoulder. "That's what we're going to find out tonight."

"Mind if I come?"

"Not at all. Try to not attract too much trouble, though." Poison Ivy snorts and tosses her red hair over her shoulder.

As we leave the green house, my eyes land on a white flower and I feel my breath caught in my throat. Shaking my head, I rush to join the other two.

After deciding that I had excellent taste in jewels and a talent for knowing where cameras and silent alarms were placed, we went back to the apartment. Selina and I sorted through our part of jewelry before packing it away and going to bed. By the time I woke up the next day, Selina already exchanged them for cash and was making us breakfast.

Yawning, I got the orange juice and poured myself a glass before grabbing the coffee pot a pouring a cup for Selina. I sit down at the table and hand Selina her glass. She nods her head appreciably as she takes a sip.

After picking at my eggs for a while, Selina puts down her fork and clears her throat. "Okay, Honey, what's up? You know that if you're not comfortable stealing, you don't…."

"No! That's not it!" I exclaim before she can go on. Looking down at my plate, I continue nervously. "Last night, something in the green house reminded me of my mom."

Selina instantly gave me her full attention and motions for me to continue. "I don't remember much about her, she got into an accident when I was pretty young. But I remember her reading me stories before I went to sleep and planting jasmine in the garden."

"And you saw the jasmine in the green house." Selina tilts her head and the mischievous glint in her eyes comes back. "You know, a lot of people name their daughter's Jasmine. I think it would fit you well too."

The corners of my lips twitch up into a smile and a surge of happiness hits me. "It's a little too innocent for my likings but I think I can shorten it down to Jazz."

Selina considers it for a second before smiling back. "Well then, Jazz, can you pass the pepper?"
