"What's wrong with you, mate?"

Sirius looked wary of the small smile that seemed to be permanently stuck on James face.

"Lily kissed him." Peter piped up. "I saw them."

Sirius looked both impressed and disgusted. "You finally got lucky -"

"Semi-lucky," Remus corrected, not raising his head from the potions book he had borrowed from the library.

Sirius nodded, and continued like he hadn't been interrupted, "-and you didn't even tell us?"

James sighed, dreamily, "She was jealous."

Sirius stared at him, "Who? Evans? Of what?"

"I think I love her."

Reus looked up at that point, "You're infatuated. There's a difference."

"She was so furious."

Sirius was starting to get alarmed at the dazed expression on James face, "Hey, we're still going out with the McClaney twins tomorrow. I don't care how much you worship Evans, the date is still on."

He looked half pleadingly at Remus who offered, "I could always bite him. Although," He looked a bit thoughtful, "The full moon is still two weeks away and I don't know the effects of a bite in human form."

The common room door swung open and two blondes stepped in. Their eyes fell on Sirius and James, simultaneously and they smiled, making their way towards them. Sirius nudged James, hissing, "Don't you dare wreck this for me, mate."

James looked up to find Cathy standing in front of him, a coy smile on her pink lips, on finger twirling her hair, "I can't wait for tomorrow, you know."

James blinked, "What's tomorrow?"

Cathy giggled, "Why, our date, silly. Hogsmeade. You promised you'd show me a time I'd never forget."

The hair on the back of James neck rose as he sensed a pair of eyes boring a hole in the back of his head.

A pair of slender arms, slid from behind, around his neck and he heard a familiar laugh, one that often left him tongue tied. "Tomorrow? James and I have prefect duties tomorrow, Cathy. Didn't he tell you?"

James barely heard Sirius groan and growl, 'Evans! No he doesn't.'

Lily shook her head, looking confused, "I'm sure he must have."

She leaned forward, her front pressed intimately against James back, "Did you forget James?"

Since he was sitting on a high backless stool, nobody realized what his little minx was doing.

He swallowed, losing his train of thought.

"Uh, yeah. Yes. I mean -"

Remus chuckled and bit the inside of his cheek to prevent himself from roaring with laughter. His rebellious black haired friend was putty in Lily Evans hands.

"Come on James."

Lily's hand slid down from his neck to clasp his hand and just as she was about to drag him off, he was tugged back.

She stilled and then looked back.

Cathy had grabbed onto James right arm with both hands, her pretty lips set in a mutinous pout, "You can do the duties yourself, can't you, Lory."

Lily raised a brow, "Lory? Are you trying to pretend to get my name mixed up with one that doesn't even exist? Because that's pathetic. And the answer is no. I can't."

She did let go of James hand and crossed her arms over her chest, looking intimidating and utterly bored.

Cathy scowled, her delicate little features twisting in an ugly grimace as she shot nastily, "Why not?" She raised a hand to settle on James chest who was starting to look both annoyed with the girl and anticipating Lily's reaction. Cathy smiled viciously at Lily, "It's not like you have a boyfriend or something."

Lily smirked, and said mockingly, "Oh, ouch. And get your hands off James, before I hex them into tentacles." She slipped out her wand and started twirling it in her hands , managing to look both bored and threatening at the same time.

Even Sirius was starting to look impressed. His date however was not.

"Don't you talk to my sister that way!" She snarled.

Confident that her sister had her back, Cathy taunted, her fingers curling on their spot on James chest. "You need to loosen up. I hear Broderick was looking for you. You are quite popular with the Slytherins. I guess it's true what they say. You do spend more time on your knees than -"

Her words were cut off in a gargle as she clutched her throat looking horrified.

Cold hazel eyes looked at her and James tone could have frozen hell over. He smiled pleasantly and pointed his wand at Cathy's throat, "If I were you I would run off to Madam Pomfrey right about now. This spell hasn't even been tested yet."

Cathy's sister gasped and rushed over, throwing her arms around her sister. She looked back at Sirius for support but Sirius gave her a disgusted look. Remus's book was closed shut and his eyes were cold as they fixed on the sisters, unwavering.

James leaned in close and murmured, "If you ever talk to or about Evans like that, I'll take away your voice, permanently."

Cathy burst into soundless sobs and her sister gave him a furious look as she led her away.

"Well." Lily put her wand back in its place, "That went well."

"Well?" Sirius gave her a horrified look, "We have no dates for tomorrow?! How is that well? This is a disaster! YOU." He pinned a grinning Lily with a look, "Alice Frankwood. Set me up with her."

Lily rolled her eyes, "Not even in your dreams, Black. I happen to like Alice."

As she sauntered off, James followed her, "Hey, Evans, wait up! What was that!"

Remus just shook his head and returned to his book.

Sirius sat there looking woeful, "Hey Remus. -"

His friend just shook his head, turning a page, "No."

"But -"

"Not a chance."

"Remus-" Sirius whined.
