Ch2
Arianna smirked at the gasps from both the students and staff, she knew that her wings were impressive but she felt the need to show off. Flexing her wings she shot into the dark rafters of the gym and let the shadows consume her, to anyone watching from below she was just a streak of silver and black. Arianna pulled the shadows to her, concealing herself from all of them, hovering upside down over the crowd. An devilish smile split her face as she pushed a fireball into her hands and let the shadows evaporate, the cries of fear below her made her laugh.
Letting the ball fall she waited a few seconds before she tucked in her wings and plummeted into the fire. Arianna smiled as the flames tickled her feathers and the heat rejuvenated her. With her mixed heritage she was at home in fire, flipping she landed on the raised platform and bowed. Lifting her eyes to her audience she looked at the range of emotions on their faces. Arianna couldn't resist smiling at the mixture of fear and awe.
After a few moments applause erupted in the gym and Arianna bowed once again. Grabbing her sun glasses and black leather coat from the ground she put them back on and stepped down into the group and waited to hear the verdict. Principal Powers and Coach Boomer shared a look and proclaimed that she would be joining the hero track. Arianna shrugged, hero isn't a term that she would use to describe herself with, more along the lines of anti-hero.
What Arianna or anyone else missed was the fact that almost the entire school body had shown up in the gym to watch the display. Including one hot headed Warren Peace. Warren had followed the Arianna from the cafeteria and stood by the doors. Even he would have to admit that her show of power and control was impressive and that watching her fly through a ball of fire and seeming to absorb the flames, surprised him. He wondered if she was safe from all fire or just her own, if there was a limit to the heat she could with stand.
After the show the rest of the school went back to their prospective classes and the rest of the freshmen were sorted. Arianna laughed when the patriotic kid was thrown into the wall, seems that not all children of power are gifted. Soon enough the day ended and students started to head for the buses, before she could exit the gym Boomer called for Arianna to wait.
"Crowley," Boomer walked over to the one student left in the gym "Principal Powers needs to see you in her office."
"Thank you Coach." Arianna shifted her bag on her shoulder and walked out.
"Good show kid." Boomer said as he watched her leave. Arianna smiled at Boomer from the doorway, a real smile not a smirk, and Boomer nodded in acknowledgement.
Arianna moved through the crowded hallways to the door marked Principal, knocking she waited and put her headphones back in. Watching the students pass her behind her glasses she saw them whispering and pointing in her direction. Annoyed with the attention she growled and flashed her fangs at them and smirked as the scurried away.
"Ms. Crowley that type of behavior is unacceptable." Arianna flinched from being taken by surprise. "Please come in and have a seat."
Arianna nodded and followed Powers into her office and took back off her headphones and placed her sunglasses around her neck. Setting her bag on the floor between her feet she waited to for the same lecture she had been given more times than she could count. It took a few minutes but it came and Arianna a master at spacing while still listening nodding at the correct times.
"Also with your ability to fly that if you want I can give you a device that will allow you to get yourself to and from school." Powers pulled out a strange looking watch and showed it to Arianna. "It has a lot of functions along with a GPS that will update every hour for exact directions to the school."
Arianna looked from Powers to the 'watch' and nodded. "Nothing against you but I don't like taking the bus."
Powers chuckled and nodded her head. "I understand Ron can be a little eager to prove himself. Anyway if you do use this I must ask that you do not reveal to anyone but your mother exactly what it is."
"No problem Principal Powers. I haven't seen my father in years and I don't ever want to see him again." Arianna knew that because of her father she was going to work to be trusted by just about anyone. "I do have a question though, who in this school knows exactly who and what I am and who my father is?"
"Faculty only," Powers assured her. "Now that doesn't stop anyone else from figuring it out but you're not the only student with parent on either side of the fence."
"Are any of them as bad as my father?" Powers shook her head.
"Some are close but no one will ever been as evil as your father," Powers looked straight into Arianna eyes. "Ms. Crowley do you know where your father is?"
"No and if I did I would defiantly tell. My mother may have tried to shield me from him and what he's done but I can read the old reports and I have seen some of the damage myself." Arianna repressed a shudder. "Principal Powers I may be a trouble maker and antisocial but I have more than enough of my mother in me to never become my father."
Powers looked at the poor girl who was a victim herself. Her parents were two of the most powerful beings ever and inside of her was an ever waging war for dominance. Good and evil, angel and demon, day and night. Their powers and impulses battled inside Arianna Nemesis Crowley, Most Holy Goddess of Righteous Anger, and inside of her was the ability to end the world!
"Okay, Ms. Crowley you can head home." Powers smiled back at her student and watched as she replaced her sunglasses and walked out of the office. Once she was far enough away Powers mumbled to herself. "God I hope that that girl has more of her mother in her or we are all doomed."
Arianna walked to the edge of the school and watched as the last of the students piled into the buses before she removed her coat. Folding it up and stuffing it into her bag she stretched out her wings and smiled as the sun and wind caressed them. Tying her hair into a messy bun she adjusted her bag to rest comfortably between her wings and flipped over the edge of the school.
Laughing in delight as she plummeted to Earth, she hadn't been able to do this a year ago. Tucking in her arms and wings she accelerated and steered towards home. Once she close enough to Maxville she opened up her wings and snapped the air to stop. Beating her wings she looked around and after a few minutes she spotted the house, something only her mother and herself could do. On the roof was a symbol that most people wouldn't understand, to most people it would look like a splash of paint but to them it was home. A white sun with two lightning bolts piercing it. Landing in the spacious back yard she pulled her wings in completely and walked into the house.
"Mom! I'm home."
Not receiving an answer Arianna went to the fridge to grab a snack and sat down at the table putting in her ear buds. Setting her bag down on the bench seat next to her she pulled out her sketch book and pencil. Finishing off her apple she started to draw, an hour passed and she didn't even realize it. With her music blaring in her ears she didn't hear the front door open or her mother calling out to her. What she did know was that someone grabbed her shoulder. Without a thought she manifested a fireball and swung it at the intruder.
"ARIANNA!" The shock of her mother's voice calmed her and she pulled out her ear buds. "What's wrong?"
"I am so sorry mom." Arianna hugged her mom as her heart and breathe returned to normal. "I don't know why I did that."
"It's alright honey."
Her mom replied while running her hands down Arianna's back, on it was a perfect tattoo of her wings, the action calmed her down. Arianna pulled back from her mother and looked at the older version of herself, minus the eyes and hair. Shimmering gold hair and large midnight blue eyes stared back at her. Her mother Astrid Crowley, was an angel of justice, literally. Earthbound for eternity to meet out justice and fairness and now the mother of the a half demon spawn but she never resented having her daughter. Instead she loved her beyond measure and tried to fulfill her task.
Astrid smiled down at her daughter and brushed a lock of white hair from her face. "I say that since I scared you we go out for dinner. Sound good to you?"
"Can we get some Chinese?" Arianna asked hopefully, Astrid smirked and nodded. Arianna ran out to the car and waited for her mother.
"Did you have a good day at school?" Astrid asked once they were on the road.
"Kind of," Arianna didn't want to look at her mother, she didn't want to see the disappointment on her eyes.
"Arianna your Principal already called me and told me so please tell me what happened."
"Everything was okay until lunch," Arianna explained to her mom about hitting the guy and back talking the teacher.
"Why did you hit that boy?" Astrid asked. "Other people have touched your wings and you didn't hit them."
"It wasn't really that he touched them but the feeling that I got when he did."
Astrid saw her daughter's red face even though it was turned looking out the window at the houses that passed. A small smile appeared on Arianna's face as she remembered the feeling of pleasure she had gotten. People had touched her wings since they had appeared, doctors, strangers and her mom. Normally all she felt was what they intended, curiosity, pain or peace but when Warren had touched them she couldn't explain the feeling.
"By your red face I'm going to assume that it felt really, really good." Astrid chuckled when the blush darkened and Arianna nodded.
Astrid knew what her daughter had experienced was new and very confusing. Not really knowing how to explain it to her she was glad when they had arrived at the restaurant. Arianna looked up at the sign over the windows and laughed at the name, Paper Lantern, typical name for a Chinese restaurant. Mother and daughter exited the car and walked in, waiting for the hostess to seat them.
Arianna looked all over the place, normal Chinese theme red and gold with Asian art and music. This was something that Arianna loved, no matter where they moved all Chinese restaurants looked alike. Plus when she was little and her whole family had gone to one Arianna had gotten a special fortune cookie. That fortune was still in a memory box in her room. It was one of her most prized possessions. Arianna refused to tell anyone what it said and she looked at the message whenever she started to feel the darkness inside herself overwhelming her.
Once they were seated Arianna quickly looked over the menu and chose her meal. Astrid told Arianna about her day and the two laughed at old stories as they waited for their food to arrive. Arianna looked around the restaurant, she was getting a weird feeling. Quickly scanning the small crowd she didn't notice anyone staring at her, but the feeling of eyes on her made her shudder. Astrid looked up as well her mother intuition alerting her to her child's distress.
Astrid maybe an angel but if anyone tried to harm her daughter she would rain down fire on them. With her angelic powers she was able to look at the auras in the dining room, nothing malicious but there was a vibrant red glow coming from the kitchen. Focusing her 'sight' she was able to sense more of the aura, it was coming from a male, red, yellow and orange swirled with white and black. The white and black she was used to seeing, Arianna's aura looked like that too, but hers only had a little red mixed with blue and green.
The person in the kitchen had a battle much like her daughters going on inside of him, a fight between good and evil, and whoever he was was also a 'super'. Pyrokinesis or the ability to control fire, but on a much larger scale than Arianna. Astrid watched his aura move about in the back as he paced. Looking at her daughter Astrid could tell that she was still uncomfortable.
"Honey do you know anyone with the power to control fire?" Astrid watched Arianna's head snap up. "Besides your father."
"No," Arianna thought back to her one day of school and tried to remember if she had felt anyone with pyrokinesis. "wait that boy that I hit. He was immune to the fire around my fist but not the force behind it. Why?"
"I think he may work in the restaurant."
"Crap"
