Hi everyone.
I know I haven't updated in so long. Had load of personal stuff happen that has just wrecked my motivation. This story has been knocking around in my head for years. Hopefully I've managed to capture/re-capture your attention with this new chapter.
She didn't know what to do. She couldn't think, couldn't breathe. The sound of her heart beat thudded softly in her ears as it felt that time itself had come to a screeching halt.
"Raven no, please no don't…don't do this to me"
Jinx reached forward, running her thin fingers along Raven's cold cheeks, hoping that soft violet eyes would open and gaze lovingly up at her like they always did.
But nothing happened. A heavy silence filled the room, suffocating the pink eyed woman as desperation filled her.
"Raven you can't…" fresh tears stained her pale cheeks as the engagement ring on her finger caught her attention. A dream now shattered.
"Raven you…." A horrid agony gripped her heart, a pain so dissimilar from physical injury that it took her breath away. She had never felt this before, she couldn't describe it; she didn't know how to make it stop. Lurching herself from her seat and the bed Raven's body lay on Jinx gripped the fabric of her shirt, twisting the material above her heart between her fingers.
It hurt so much.
A sob escaped from her, this couldn't be real….it just couldn't.
Turning her back on the grisly scene Jinx rushed for the door, she had to get away. This couldn't be real, this wasn't happening to her. Once out in the corridor she realised that the Titans, her friends, Ravens friends were all waiting for news they all dreaded. Panicked, Jinx rushed down the corridor. She couldn't face them, she heard Bumblebee yell out for her…or maybe it was Argent….it didn't matter.
Images danced in front of her as she ran; cherished memories quickly dissolving into images of blood and pain; Raven asking her to marry her only to be quickly replaced by her bloodied corpse lying motionless. A gentle smile reserved only for her quickly transforming into a tormented grimace across Ravens pale features; a kind voice deteriorating into a pained wheeze.
All that she had loved about her gentle half-demon was being ripped away from her only to be replaced with one horrific image of her lover's dead, bloodied body. Falling to her knees she lifted her head and screamed. It was too much, she couldn't cope with this. She didn't know how long she screamed before she was reduced to sobbing, cradling herself as she sought some form of comfort.
She didn't register the arms that wrapped around her shaking form, holding her close as she cried.
Cyborg stood in the doorway, his attention focused on the dead body of his little sister. The machine part of him was already collecting data: time and date of death, cause of death etc. but the human part of him could only think of his last few moments with the young woman who had come to mean so much to him…..
" Dammit Rae don't you give up on me!" barked Cyborg as he drove like a madman to the nearest Titan safe-house. The T-Car swerved through traffic at break-neck speed as Cyborg glanced between the SatNav and his rear view mirror. He could see that Raven was still breathing; it was difficult to see as her chest barely rose but he knew. He glanced at Bee who was sitting in the backseat with Ravens head in her lap. The Titans East Leader was talking, trying to keep Raven awake while applying pressure to Ravens wounds. Argent was knelt in the small gap between the front passenger seat and the rear seat, the gothic Honorary Titan was concentrating on keeping a band of red energy wrapped around Ravens chest, covering the wound left by Madame Rouge while bandaging as many injuries as she could.
The safe house came into view, an old abandoned apartment complex.
"Just hang in there a little longer Raven, we're almost there and we're gonna get you the best care we can" stated Cyborg. Stopping the car at the entrance, the cybernetic Titan burst out of the car.
"Argent create a stretcher. Bee help me keep pressure on her injuries" ordered Cyborg. He watched Raven's prone body float out of the car on Argents red manifestation of an ambulance stretcher, her eyes were barely open and her skin was a deathly pale.
"Hold on Rae. Just hold on" encouraged Cyborg as he strode alongside her.
Once they were inside Argent placed Raven on the bed. Cyborg quickly ushered the two women out of the room so he could work, with Argents energy gone the wound on her lower chest was fully visible. A quick analysis confirmed what Cyborg had feared, Ravens internal organs had been ruptured along with veins and major arteries.
"Cyborg" glancing towards Ravens dimming eyes the cybernetic Titan frowned.
"Don't talk. Save your strength" ordered Cyborg. He had to work quickly if he was going to save his friend and he couldn't afford any distractions. A bloodied hand touched his arm, refocusing his attention.
"It's too late Victor" whispered Raven. He shook his head, deep down he knew there was nothing he could do but he had to try. They had worked miracles before and they could do it again, they had to.
"You can't save me this time" she whispered, knowing what they had all accomplished in the past but this was different, she could feel her body shutting down and it was taking all of her remaining energy to keep herself tethered to this world. But she wouldn't be able to do it forever. Her powers had their limits as did her body.
"So you're just giving up? Gonna just lie there and let them win?" he was being unfair and part of him regretted his accusations. Raven was in no condition to fight back, she wasn't even in a condition to sit up but he felt so angry and afraid. He needed his little sister, more than she needed him and he…he just couldn't imagine her not being there.
"You make it sound like I wanted this to happen" Cyborg winced and immediately felt terrible, even more so when she started coughing up blood. Once the coughing subsided, Raven looked at him with pained violet eyes.
"I can't recover from this Vic. We both know this…" he didn't understand how she could be so calm.
"I don't have a lot of time. I need you to call Jinx" he wanted to argue. Wanted to scream at her to try harder, to fight harder to stay with them but in his heart he knew that if she could she would do everything, fight anything to stay. Nodding his head he stood up and reached for a bathroom towel. He placed the white fabric against her chest before picking up her limp arm and placing it on top of the fabric.
"I love you Rae. You'll always be my little sister" he choked out as tears streamed down the human side of his face.
A small smile formed on Raven's pale, bloodied lips.
"Love you too Vic"
"I'm so sorry Raven" he whispered. He truly was; he was sorry that he hadn't been there to help her. He was sorry that he didn't have the knowledge or ability to keep her alive. Lifting his forearm he initiated his Titan communicator.
"Cyborg calling Robin" he stated. Within seconds the Boy Wonder's battered face was on screen. Cyborg noticed that a worried Starfire and Beast Boy were in the background.
"Cyborg it's good to hear from you. Did you manage to locate Raven?" glancing at the bed Cyborg felt his throat constrict. How was he supposed to tell them that one of their own was gone forever?
"Cyborg?"
"She's gone Robin" whispered Cyborg; the words tasted horrid in his mouth.
"Gone? What do you mean she's gone? Gone where?" Cyborg heard his questions, could hear Starfire's and Beast Boy's questions and yet he struggled to answer them. He had never wished now more than ever to be fully cybernetic. At least then he wouldn't feel the loss so keenly.
"Cyborg I need you to answer me" he knew that Robin was worried and that was why he was being so demanding. But something about his tone sparked Cyborgs anger .
"She's dead Robin! Dead! Raven is dead! Those fucking bastards have killed her!" he yelled down the communicator, screamed until it hurt.
Everyone was silent. Cyborg inhaled deeply before a choked sob escaped from him.
"She's gone Robin. She's really gone…."
And that's that. Please tell me what you think :) Reviews are always appreciated
