CHAPTER 2: Exploring
Austin's POV
"Wow, this place is…wow" I breathed out as I took in the scene in front of me
I knew that the island was beautiful, but this...this is breathtaking. The whole place was just full of life, mountains a rough tan color, flowers blooming with reds, yellows, pinks, blue with the sun shining brightly, not a single cloud in the sky. Now, I see why this island was named the way it was. From a distance, I can see a village not too far from here
"Austin!" My eyes tore away from the beautiful landscape to look below me to find Dez waving me over "Come down here! I want you to meet some people!" That's when I noticed two girls standing beside him
I was about to climb down when something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye. A rope was tied from the top of the mast to the deck below. I grinned as an idea struck me and I started untying the red sash around my waist and threw it over the rope, holding tightly to both sides of the fabric. I pushed myself off the board and I was suddenly flying through the air, well kind of.
"Whoo!" I yelled as I zipped past shocked faces of the crew below
Before I reached the end of the ship, I let go of one side of the sash and fell on the sand of the beach, but I caught myself by tumbling and stood up straight on my feet. I brushed off the sand sticking against my shirt and pants, before I retied the sash back around my waist.
I made my way over to the docks wondering who these two girls were. When I stood in front of them, I took this time to really take them in. One was a short Latina girl with black curly hair reaching her back, wearing a dress that was full of blue, green, red, pink, you name it. When I looked at the other girl, my breath hitched. She had wavy chocolate brown hair that flowed around her shoulders, a brown vest slightly covering the top half of her orange dress that reached her knees, and her feet being covered in brown sandals. I then looked up at her eyes, dark brown filled with curiosity.
"The Latina is Trish, she was the girl I always wrote letters to when we were younger" Dez said and I nodded remembering that years ago, we found this bottle on the shore of the kingdom with a message in it. Dez being Dez read it and wrote back before putting it back in the bottle and throwing it out to the sea. Weeks later, we found the bottle again and the rest is history "The other girl is Trish's best friend Ally" Ally, so that's her name
"It's nice to meet you, I'm…" Should I tell them my real name, I mean what if news spread that the prince of the Nightland Kingdom escaped and want him back? I should play it safe "The name's Kendall, John Kendall"
Trish looked at me suspiciously "Are you a pirate?"
I shrugged "Nah, you see I'm a traveler" Liar "I don't take other's loot that they worked so hard to steal"
Trish crossed her arms, still not convinced "You sure do look like a pirate. Are you sure you're not lying?"
Ally sent Trish a look "Trish, stop interrogating the poor guy and let's just show him around the village"
I thanked the lord that the subject was changed and began following the girls with Dez by my side
"John Kendall?" He raised an eyebrow
I grinned while shrugging "First name that popped in my head, can you blame me?"
He shook his head with a smile on his face "You better hope your uncle won't come by any time soon, or you're in for it"
"I know, I know, but I couldn't tell them my real name. If I did, I'm pretty much asking for my death sentence"
When we reached the village, I looked around in awe. Houses and stores as tall as trees covered the sides of the pathway with people walking along it talking amongst themselves, or they were browsing merchandise along the way. Horses trotted down the cobblestone path, with carriages following close behind them and sometimes they were a wagon full of crops or any other food to sell to the villagers. A silver fountain stood in the center of the intersecting paths, clean water flowing down as they sprouted from the top.
"John" The name was repeated three more times and I started getting annoyed. Can't they see that this John person doesn't want to talk to them? I felt a hard jab in my rib and I yelped, holding the probably bruised side with my hand as I glared at the abuser
"Trish is talking to you 'John' " Dez emphasized my name and I barely stopped myself from slapping my forehead at my stupidity
"Sorry, I tend to travel through my imagination and forget my surroundings" I said almost forgetting that I talked in some sort of old English language*, lord now I really wish I could hit William right now
William is one of the butlers of the castle that was actually my friend. He pretty much raised me, seeing that my dad and my stepmom's duty to the kingdom was more important than me. William was the youngest of all the people that worked in the kingdom, at the age of 35. You would think that he was pretty old, but he starting raising me when I was 2 and he was 20. He has short dark brown hair, brown eyes that seem to turn black when he was angry which was rarely ever unless it had to do with my dad and his wife, and a mustache completed with a beard. I always loved playing with his beard as a kid and he was always annoyed and tried to stop me, but soon gave up when he saw that I just ignored him every time. Throughout my years of growing up, I picked up a lot of his habits including talking in old English, because he loved William Shakespeare as a kid and always talked in gibberish to me. I tried talking it to him the first time, but I made it easier to understand then him. He told me that I didn't need to talk like that, but me being me, I ignored him.
"John!" I saw fingers snapping in from of my face and I came back to reality. How long was I gone for? I saw Trish glaring at me and brought her hand up
"Alright, Alright! I'm sorry, I won't do that again" I said quickly holding my hands up in surrender, god I feel like a coward
"Good" She said bringing her hand down before turning around and walking ahead to catch up with Ally
"How in the world did you befriend her?" I asked Dez still staring at the small Latina
"I didn't, we constantly fight" He said shrugging
"I'm surprised you know the word constantly" Trish said not turning around to face us
"William taught me" Dez said and I slapped my hand over his mouth
I sent him a glare, but quickly removed my hand before Ally and Trish turned to us. Ally looked curious while Trish looked the same but her eyes were narrowed.
"Who's William?" Ally asked looking between the two of us
"My 'ol grandfather" I rubbed my neck nervously "Always causing trouble, yet was the best mate any lad could ask for"
"Oh where is he now?" Trish asked
"Somewhere beyond the horizon, sailing the depths of the blue, searching for adventure" I immediately said, knowing that they wouldn't know that I was talking about myself
"Oh this is where I live, and Trish lives just two houses down" Ally said
I realized that were weren't in the village anymore, but somewhere further into nature. It was quiet, peaceful, calming, instead of it being loud and busy like back at town square. Ally's house was made of what looks like some strong wood, with a sturdy looking roof made of some material I couldn't place my finger on, her whole house was surrounded by flowers, bushes, and some small trees with all sorts of fruits growing on it.
"Can this place get any more beautiful?" I thought as all four of us made our way towards her door
She gently knocked on the door and it opened revealing a man who I was guessing was her father.
"Ally, your back, come in" We walked through the door and into a decent comfortable looking living room
There was a little girl sitting on the couch, a sketchpad on her lap and her left hand holding the pencil as she drew. She looked about 4, had shoulder length brown hair and from this angle, I could see her eyes were dark brown. She was a mini Ally. She looked at us and quickly hid the sketchbook behind her and her gaze fell to the floor.
"She likes to keep to herself and doesn't talk to anyone. Not even us" Ally whispered sadly, only loud enough for me to hear and I nodded slightly
We all sat down on the other side of Ally's sister and talked amongst ourselves. I kept glancing at her out of the corner of my eye, but her gaze remained on the floor with her hands folded on her lap. I got up and walked over to her, ignoring my friend's protest and stood in front of her.
She slowly looked up at me, fear in her eyes and I gave her a calming look with a small smile on my face, making sure I'm not scaring her.
"I'm John Kendall" I told her softly, squatting down and holding my hand out
She looked at my hand and back towards my eyes, her fear still present in hers but decreased slightly.
"It's okay, Mi ne dolorigos vin*" I whispered to her
She looked at me curiously and I just smiled at her. She hesitantly unlocked her hands and placed her small hand in mine and I shook it.
"What's your name?" She remained silent "How about I guess?" She just looked down and shrugged "Hm…there are millions of girl names, how am I ever to figure this out "I sighed dramatically and she looked up at me" Oh please, please fair lady, give me a hint" I pleaded helplessly as I folded my hands together in a pleading motion
I heard a small giggle and I smiled "Is it Mary?" She shook her head "April?" She shook it again "Jessica?" Another shake and I sighed "How will I figure this out?" I looked at her eyes, and amongst the dark I saw a slight twinkle and I smiled as I said "Hope, that's your name isn't it?"
She looked at me shocked and I shrugged not knowing why I chose that name. She sent me a small smile and I returned it.
"It was nice meeting you Hope" I nodded at her and returned back to my friends who were looking at me surprised "What?"
"Did she talk to you?" Dez asked and I shook my head
"Nah, completely silent, but I got that little girl, Hope to smile" I said
"How did you know her name?"
"I guessed" I told them and we suddenly heard some sort of horn blaring outside
"Town square speech is taking place" Ally's dad said
I was confused as everyone stood up and headed towards the door. Ally looked back at me
"Every time that horn blares, everyone must go to the village to hear a speech from the king" I nodded and we both followed the others and made our way to the village
As we made our way through the crowd, I saw a man standing on the stage that looked somewhat familiar. Where have I seen him before? Wait, brown hair, green eyes, but an older version…no, it can't be
"My people, I have been informed that my son has returned from his travel overseas" The crowd got wild and I heard Ally squeal in joy, why in the world- "My son, please step up to the stage" A teen that looks so much like his father stepped up and faced the crowd
"I am pleased that I have finally come back to my home, my family, and my girlfriend Ally Dawson" No no no no
She ran up to the stage and hugged him, my ex-best friend, my enemy, the guy who became friends with me and gained my trust, but betrayed me when he killed her, left her on the ground on the beach, left my mom to die
Dallas
*1) Sorry if this isn't old english, i wasnt sure
*2) Mi ne dolorigos vin (I won't hurt you)
I am so so so so so so sorry that i spent this long to update! It was my first story, and it was stupid of me to put this story up without having any idea what the plot should be for the next chapter, and with school, it made it that much harder. Is it weird I already have a sequel for this story and it's longer then this? I feel so ashamed, and i apologize to my followers and whoever read this back in June or July.
I hope you review
