Author Note

So it's been a while with this story hasn't it… I'm sorry for the delay with it, life has been particularly tough at the moment with illness and then children and then Christmas and birthdays and god knows what else. I literally feel as though the past five/six months have been non-stop. I just haven't had the time to write anything even though I've wanted to.

However I do find myself with a free weekend for the first time in months so I plan to make the most of it and try and update at least some of my stories starting with the ones which I've neglected the longest such as this one. If you are reading another one of my stories than you might actually be in luck and it might be updated this weekend.

Just for the record Dean is 20 in this story and Sam is 16 so both of them are at school… well Sam is at high school and Dean is at university… I assume that they are still called University in America? If not than please forgive the mistake all my knowledge is UK based as I'm Welsh.

Anyway enough chatting from me, please enjoy the chapter.

Chapter One

You have got to be kidding me

Dean Winchester had seriously had it.

On a scale of one to ten, one being shitty and ten being awesome, he was currently stuck firmly on minus twenty. Everything which could have gone wrong for him that day had gone wrong. If he was a suspicious man then he would have believed that this Thursday had it personally out for him. He had overslept, waking feeling exhausted instead of rested, he had been forced to skip breakfast, left his wallet at home, couldn't find the keys to his car meaning he had to catch the bus to his University which was an experience he had no intention of ever repeating again and then on top of all that one of his Professor had sprung a surprise test on them which Dean was ninety percent positive he had failed..

He could have coped with his shit day if he could have gone straight home and relaxed. Maybe caught up with some studying after cooking or simple collapsed onto the worn out, comfortable sofa in the living room with a movie on in the background, but that simple desire hadn't been achieved so instead Dean's day had gone from bad to worse and it was all because of his idiot brother Sam.

Sam who had been determined that Dean got some form of a social life which didn't include his brother. He had insisted that Dean went on a date, badgering Dean until he had finally given in and agreed to say yes to the next person who asked him out if Sam agreed to leave him the hell alone over it. A condition which Sam had agreed to with a massive smile on his face as he confidently predicted that Dean would thank him in the end for his brotherly help.

Of course it had been sods law that a guy in his Chemistry lecture had asked him out the very next day. Dean had begun turning him down when he had stopped and instead agreed with a sigh, Sam had a way of finding out about this sort of thing and if he found out that Dean went back on his word the day after giving it then Dean would never hear the end of it.

It was also just his luck that the date had been arranged for that night.

The date had started off fine. His date Darren was good looking with dark hair and grey eyes and a killer smile. In fact he was normally the type of guy that Dean liked when he went that route but for some reason he wasn't doing it for Dean even though Dean was clearly doing it for Darren if his touches and constant looks were anything to go by.

Really Dean should have seen the situation he found himself in, coming from a mile away, all the signals had been pointing to it but he had been tired and barely thinking straight when Darren pulled the car over and turned to him, a smile on his face as he asked Dean to blow him before they went anywhere else.

"I'm sorry am I hearing you right?" Dean asked, staring at Darren as though he had grown a second head. "You've actually just stopped the car and asked, no sorry demanded, that I give you a blow job because why? Because you bought me a burger at a diner?"

He raised an eyebrow, keeping Darren's gaze steadily, a flash of satisfaction zinging through him when Darren's pale skin flushed, his eyes skittering away from Dean's as he suddenly looked awkward his fingers tapping against the steering wheel in an erratic beat.

"It's only polite" Darren said after a pause, his response causing a bark of laughter to escape from Dean as he shook his head in disbelief, torn between the desire to carry on laughing at the suddenly absurd situation or to punch Darren directly in his face.

"It's only polite" Dean repeated. "You have got to be kidding me" he stated firmly jabbing his finger in Darren's direction. "What's polite Darren is to take me home now before I knock you the hell out. What's polite is to wait until something like that is offered. I mean damn, if you expect a blow job after a shitty burger than what the hell do you expect after a meal at a good quality restaurant? The full works in the back seat?"

Darren shrugged.

"I don't see what the problem is" Darren stated "If you don't want to then get out."

Dean blinked, his mouth falling open before he closed it.

"So let me get this straight, you are going to chuck me out of your car in the-"his eyes glanced out of the window. "Shit part of town because I won't give you a blow job but if I give you a blow job you'll take me home?" he queried. Darren considered his point before he nodded.

"That about sums it up"

Dean nodded, his hand curling into a fist as he considered punching Darren directly in the face, breaking his straight nose and sending the dickhead directly to A&E but he managed to control the urge. If Darren pressed charges than Dean was screwed, worst Dean would have to pack up, take Sam and leave the town before any of the people hunting them caught wind of the incident. Dean didn't want to do that to his brother, not when Sam was finally fitting in and happy. He forced his fist to loosen.

"Fine" he said, "I'd say thanks for the evening but considering how shit it's been and the fact that you're throwing me out of your car than it would be a lie." He pushed open the door and climbed out into the frigid air, slamming the car door shut behind him

"You are aware of what part of town you're actually in Dean?" Darren called through the window. "They'd eat someone like you up for breakfast" Dean rolled his eyes, looking at Darren through the open window.

"I'll take my chances with them" he remarked.

"Last chance Dean, get in the car and do what I ask, I'm doing you a favour, I mean you know what the other people in our class call you? The Ice King is the most pleasant of them. I'm the only one willing to give you a chance, I'm just asking for a little something in return for it." Dean snorted.

"When you put it like that how could I possibly refuse" he replied, leaning down so he could see Darren's face. "I'm thinking that this might make a good segment on my radio show don't you think? I can see the title now. Dickheads who take their dates to shitty diners and expects them to give out. It's no wonder you're single if this is your first date routine. A little naming and shaming might do you some good, hell you might even thank me some day for it."

"You wouldn't dare" Darren snapped back making Dean raise his eyebrow at him.

"I wouldn't dare" he repeated, a smile coming to his face which Dean knew wouldn't look pleasant. "If you think that then you really don't know me at all. What do they always say, it's the quiet ones you have to look out for."

Darren stared at him for a moment, an unpleasant look coming to his face.

"Good luck getting home without being attacked Dean, someone who looks like you doesn't stand a chance in this part of town. I'll keep an eye on the news for your face" he snapped, revving the engine and shooting away so fast that he left a tire tread on the ground.

Dean swore, kicking a can as he reached up and ran a hand over his face, cursing his brother and the world in general for leaving him in his current predicament.

"This is what happens when you listen to annoying, know it all brothers Dean" he said to himself, wrapping his coat around him as his breath misted the air in front of his face. "You end up stranded from where you live in the bad part of town with no fucking car. Last freaking time I agree to let the other person drive."

Dean breathed out nosily, twisting on the spot taking in the boarded up buildings, there wasn't another soul as far as he could tell but that didn't necessarily mean that there wasn't someone in the alleyways watching him.

"Next time this happens I' so going to beat the shit out of the person and take their car leaving them stranded" Dean muttered out loud, his voice the only thing breaking the oppressive silent. Shivering, he shoved his hands into the pockets of his thin jacket and began heading down the street, his eyes moving side to side searching for any kind of danger as he searched for a pay phone since he had managed to leave his mobile at home.

His eyes landed on an old battered phone box on the other side of the road, he glanced both ways jogging across the street and stopping by it, praying in his head that it was working. The phone was still attached to the box which was a god send, he lifted it up, pressing it against his ear and listened, his eyes closing at the familiar sound of a dialling tone. He pulled out a few coins from his jean pocket and slotted them into the machine, typing in the number for the local cab station and ignoring the fact that his fingers were shaking from the cold.

"Hi you've reached Essien's car service how can I help?" a polite female voice answered after two rings.

"Hey I need a cab. I'm at Florence Crescent and I need to get to Donovan Avenue" there was a moment's silence before the woman spoke again.

"The soonest we can get someone to you is in an hour, do you want to book the cab?" she asked. Dean blinked, there was no way he could stay there for an hour unless he wanted to freeze to death.

"No, no it's alright I'll figure something else out. Thanks" Dean said, placing the phone back in its cradle and staring at it. He bit down on his lower lip, running a hand through his hair as he tried to figure out his options.

There was no way he could wait where he was for the cab, the weather had turned icy the week before and Dean was already beginning to lose feeling in his fingers, if he stayed then he would probably become ill and he couldn't afford that with his exams creeping up on him. He could walk home but it would probably take him well over an hour so that was going to be his last resort.

He turned suddenly and kicked the side of the phone booth violently, watching as cracks appeared in the glass, leaving it looking like a cob web. He should have stayed in the car and forced Ash to drive him home, it wasn't as though Dean didn't know how to handle himself and Ash was just some loser kid a few years older than himself who thought himself something good. He wasn't a monster. Dean was intimately familiar with monsters. Monsters had been dogging his steps for as long as he could remember. Monsters had killed his parents, had killed his Aunts and Uncles and anyone else who tried to help him and Sam out.

Monster would never give up until they had both Winchester brothers in their possession though Dean had no idea what exactly they wanted them for, he just knew that he didn't want to find out or to give them the opportunity to get them.

God knew why he had agreed to stay here in this town. He had thought that perhaps they would be safe there but now he wondered whether they would be. Could they ever truly be safe? Was Dean putting them in danger by giving in to Sam's pleading and allowing them to remain where they were.

Dean sighed, focusing his attention back on the phone.

There was only one option available to him, he couldn't wait where he was, he couldn't walk home without the risk of being attacked which meant there was only one person he could turn to. Licking his lips Dean shook his head as he reached out and picked up the phone again already picturing the lecture he was going to receive in his mind, than again what was one more lecture to him?

"Come on Dean" he muttered to himself "You can do this, you've faced down monsters, and you can face down this."

He swallowed, placing the money into the slot and dialling the number he didn't want to dial as he cursed Darren in his mind.

Could this day actually get any worse for him?
