Chapter 2: Senior Year Blues

Kagome and Sango were walking to school together; it was their first day as seniors. Kagome was wearing a pair of black Roc a Wear jeans with a red T-shirt that said: "I'm not a team player" written in black (I love shirts like that lol). She wore red and black Jordan's and her hair was, as always, in that same ponytail. Sango was wearing a white halter top with black Capri's and black and white Adidas sneakers. They were now 16 and their 17th birthdays weren't far away. They were talking about how much they missed each other during the summer. Sango went on vacation with her family to Hong Kong, and was telling Kagome all about it. Kagome stood home all summer, arguing with her mom (like always), and taking care of Souta. Sango felt bad for her, and wished that she could've just taken Kagome with her.

"So, excited about senior year?" asked Sango with a mix of anxiousness and nervousness.

"Huh? Oh yeah!" Kagome said as she snapped out of her usual daydreaming look.

She was once again thinking about arguing with her mom, and started thinking back to her past once again. Her old wounds were still fresh, never once closing. She felt miserable, but hid it from Sango because she didn't want her to worry. She thought about how her mother blamed her for everything, and constantly hit her for no reason. Kagome didn't fight back because that's her mom, but boy was she pushing it. Her eyes soon had hints of green in them, thinking angrily about her mom. She had inherited her eyes from her mom, and wished she didn't because it gave away whenever she felt emotional. Sango noticed the shade of green overtaking the brown in Kagome's eyes, and was worried.

"You okay Kags?" she asked with concern.

Soon the green faded back to a light brown as Kagome realized Sango was there with her. She quickly put on a fake smile and said, "Yeah I'm fine."

"Kagome, don't lie to me. I know you were thinking about something," said Sango.

Kagome's fake smile soon faded, and a look of hurt took over her face. "I was just thinking about my summer is all," she said with sadness in her voice. Sango began to feel worse than she did before. She knew Kagome was constantly abused physically, emotionally and mentally by her mom.

"Try not to worry about it Kags," she said with comfort in her voice. "I'm here for you whenever you need me. Always remember that okay?"

Kagome looked at her and smiled softly. "Okay," she said with happiness as she gave Sango a hug.

They finally made it to InuTaisho high, and made their way to the auditorium. Every year, the principal, Mr. Totosai, would give them a brief speech and welcome them back to school. They sat near the back as they usually did, that way they can hurry and exit out of the auditorium. As soon as Mr. Totosai began, Sango's and Kagome's heads began to nod and they soon fell asleep. It was the sound of footsteps that woke them, as they saw their fellow students leaving. They got up and left too, and made their way to the library to get their schedules. They were standing in line, talking about how much they hoped to be in the same classes. Their dream came true in the previous years, and hoped luck would shine on them again. They were finally at the librarian's desk getting their schedules and they left after they received them. They were in the hallway comparing schedules and sighed. They only had 3 of their 8 classes together.

"Well, we should at least be thankful that we got some classes together," said Kagome. Sango nodded in agreement.

"Hello ladies," a familiar voice called. They knew immediately who it was.

They turned to see Miroku walking toward them. He had short hair that he tied into a ponytail, plum colored eyes and a lean athletic figure. He was wearing a purple polo shirt and black jeans with black Reebok sneakers.

"It's nice to see you two again… especially you Sango," said Miroku with a lecherous grin.

Miroku has always had a crush on Sango, since freshman year to be exact. Sango just looked at him and sighed. "Nice to see you too Miroku," she said dully.

"That's no way to treat your boyfriend," said Miroku as he put his arm around her shoulders. She pushed him away from her, looking annoyed.

"You're not my boyfriend!" exclaimed Sango with a little fury in her voice.

Miroku just looked at her and laughed to himself. "You're even cuter when you're mad," he said, amused. Sango blushed a little, but it didn't last long as she felt his hand touch her butt…again.

Sango balled up her fist, and angrily punched him in the face. He stumbled back a little, rubbing his cheek while he smiled. Sango looked confused.

"One day, you'll be mine," he said with a determined voice as he slowly walked away.

"Ugh!! He gets me so damn mad!" exclaimed Sango. Kagome looked at her and laughed.

"What's so funny?" she asked, still somewhat angry.

"You know you like him," said Kagome. "It's written all over your face." Sango blushed dark red and turned away from Kagome.

"So you do like him," said Kagome with a tone of satisfaction. "Why don't you go out with him?"

Sango blushed even darker (if that was possible), and chuckled nervously. "W-well, he's such a perv!!" yelled Sango. "But then again, he's sweet, charming and really cute-"

"Then that's enough reason to go on a date with him," said Kagome cutting her off. "You should ask him during lunch."

"I-I don't think that's a good idea," said Sango nervously.

"Why not?" asked Kagome with a confused look.

"Because, I don't want him to know of my feelings just yet," said Sango. "I wanna wait til the time is right."

"Okay," said Kagome with an understanding tone. Then they both walked down the hall to their first class: History.

They walked in and sat in two desks in the middle of the classroom. They put their books down and began talking again about the usual girl stuff. Then they heard a voice behind them say, "Are you following me Sango?" Sango froze; she and Kagome both knew who it was: Miroku, who still had that perverted grin on his face.

"I'm so lucky to be in one of your classes Sango. That way, I can be blessed by your presence," said Miroku.

Sango turned dark red, she was so nervous to turn around. So, Kagome spoke for her. "Uh, she doesn't want to talk to you right now Miroku. She's still sorta pissed about what happened earlier."

"It's okay. I know she won't be angry for long," said Miroku with a grin. "I'll talk to you two later," he said as he took a seat on the other side of the class.

Sango was still blushing brightly. Kagome just laughed; she found it to be very amusing. Sango gave her the death glare, but Kagome just brushed it off and kept chuckling.

Just then, their History teacher, Mr. Myouga, walked in. The class was still chattering a bit, so he cleared his throat to get their attention. Everyone stopped talking and looked at their teacher.

"Good morning class!" he said with enthusiasm.

"Good morning," the class replied back.

"I'm Mr. Myouga, your History teacher. Welcome! Oh yes, we have a new student here who transferred from Kyoto. Mr. Takahashi, would you mind introducing yourself to the class?"

Everyone turned their attention to look for the new student. Sango and Kagome didn't really pay any attention, they were chatting amongst themselves.

"Thank you for introducing yourself Mr. Takahashi," said Mr. Myouga with glee. Sango and Kagome didn't hear the new student talking while he was introducing himself.

Mr. Myouga began calling out the attendance, but stopped at Kagome's name. She wasn't paying attention to what was going on around her, she was deep in thought.

"Ms. Higurashi?" he said questioningly. "Ms. Higurashi??" Sango nudged Kagome and she quickly snapped out of her daze.

"Here," she said with enthusiasm.

From there, he finished with the attendance and began his lesson. Kagome took notes, but her mind began to wander. She was always thinking about her past, and how insecure she felt. She let her thoughts drift away from class and was now in another daze. The bell rang at the end of class, which quickly brought Kagome back to reality. She quickly packed her things and left. She and Sango walked down the hall and to their lockers, which coincidentally, were next to each other. Sango was talking to Kagome, but Kagome's mind left her again.

"Kagome? Hello?? Kags!!" said Sango. Kagome snapped out of it and apologized to her best friend for daydreaming once again.

They grabbed their Literature books and headed to their next class together. When they got there, they noticed that Miroku was in their class as well, and Sango tried to hide behind Kagome. She soon noticed that Miroku wasn't paying her any mind. She sighed with relief, and they made their way to a pair of desks next to each other. Kagome looked at Miroku and saw that he was talking to one of the boys in the class. As she tried to take a look at the boy, she saw silver hair…She then thought about her old friend Inuyasha, and the fact that he had silver hair too…she then noticed a triangular shape at the top of his head, and quickly recognized it as an ear. 'Inuyasha had ears like that too…' thought Kagome. But she quickly shrugged off her thoughts as their Literature teacher, Ms. Kagura, walked in.

She introduced herself to the class, and called out the attendance. Kagome, once again, fell into a trance, forgetting the world around her after her name was called. Looking at the person Miroku was talking to made her think back to when she was younger and how she used to hang out with Inuyasha. She laughed to herself as she thought about all of the pranks they pulled together and against each other. Oh, how she used to have fun back then. Whenever they were together, she would have a blast, even though she ended up with scrapes and bruises along the way. She was oblivious to the fact that she was being watched by the person who caught her interest.

"Can that really be…Kagome?" thought Inuyasha to himself.

There he was, in the same class as Kagome, and he couldn't believe his eyes. His beautiful amber orbs stared at the girl who was daydreaming, full of happiness on the inside because it really was his old friend. He sat there, remembering the day he moved away to Kyoto.

It was back when he was 10 years old. He had asked Kagome to meet him at the park because he said he had to tell her something important.

"I'm sorry Kagome, but I have to go away," said Inuyasha, with a sad look in his amber eyes.

"Why?! Why do you have to go away and leave me here?!" asked a sad and furious Kagome as her eyes began to show hints of green.

"My parents want to move…"

"No! You can't go and leave me here!!" she said with more fury.

"I-I'm sorry Kagome, I have to go…"

"Fine!! I hope you have a nice life!!" yelled Kagome with tears in her eyes.

She stormed off and left Inuyasha there. He felt so bad for having to leave his best friend. He slowly walked home, ears drooped and his eyes filled with sorrow.

The bell rang and quickly had Inuyasha, as well as Kagome, getting their head out of the clouds. Kagome packed her things and left. Inuyasha still sat at his seat, still amazed to see her after so long.

"You okay Inuyasha?" asked Miroku. He saw the expression on Inuyasha's face as he saw Kagome walk away. "Do you know Kagome?"

"So that is Kagome," said Inuyasha, more to himself than aloud.

"How do you know Kagome?" asked Miroku with a look of confusion.

"Well… we were kinda like best friends when we were younger," said Inuyasha, thinking back to how they used to hang out all the time. "But, I had to move away, and I haven't seen her since… at least not until today. She looks so much different than she did 8 years ago."

"Well, why don't you say something to her?" asked Miroku.

"I don't think she'd recognize me," said Inuyasha as he sighed. "Besides, she probably doesn't wanna talk to me anyway."

"Well, you won't know until you try," said Miroku. "You should talk to her."

Inuyasha sighed again. 'He's right' Inuyasha thought to himself. 'I should talk to her.' He got up and left from class, and Miroku followed behind him.

Well, that's chapter 2… I know, long ain't it? But I don't wanna leave people confused, so I try my best to be clear with what I'm writing. I know it probably isn't good, but I just wanted to give y'all an idea of Inuyasha and Kagome's friendship in the past. Anywho, please read and review. Don't be too negative please. Keep in mind it's my first fan fic I've ever written and it's still early in the story. Hmm… will Inuyasha talk to Kagome? You'll find out in chapter 3… it'll be up in a day or two… quick right? Anywho, keep the love coming my way!! It makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside lol…
