A/N: Just a very short epilogue to wrap things up.
Epilogue
I was sitting in the diner for my last breakfast in Joilet about a week later. I was all ready to leave, had been since I watched that black car and those two brothers drive away. I drizzled the maple syrup over my pancakes and munched on a strip of bacon.
I glanced up out of habit when the bell chimed over the door, indicating it had been opened. It took a minute for the image to connect but when it did I looked up again and took in the sight of those two brothers. With the memories in my head I had to remember Sam it was somewhat difficult to actually recognize him.
I watched them walk up to the counter and talk to Jane. Dean glanced at Sam who said something and Dean said something to Jane. She nodded and walked away, assumingly to fill their order. Dean put his back to the counter and gazed around, talking to Sam. I gave a little smile when Dean's eyes settled on me. I watched Dean return it before turning to Sam who also looked over at me. I was surprised when they started heading towards me.
"Jasmine," Dean said, smiling.
"Hey," I said. "I didn't know you were still in town."
"Someone's been lazing around," he said, nudging Sam who huffed a laugh.
"How are you doing, Sam?" I asked. I had to know now that I had the chance.
"Better," Sam said and I couldn't even begin to describe how wonderful it was to hear his voice not impacted by pain, fear, sadness, and drugs. "I want to thank you. I don't remember too much but I do remember some. I remember you being there after the shock therapy. Thank you for trying to help, trying to find Dean."
I looked between them and found my eyes drawn to a flash of gold sitting on Dean's chest. It was the amulet Sam had held onto for three days.
"There wasn't much I could do but I had to do something. I just knew there had to be someone out there missing you," I said. "I'm glad you're okay."
Sam smiled almost shyly, shoving Dean's shoulder when Dean nudged him in the ribs again.
"Dean and Sam!" Jane called.
"I'll get it," Sam said and walked over to the counter to get their food.
"I want to thank you too," Dean said once we were alone. "You helped save my brother and in my books, that's the best thing anyone can do."
"I don't know what kinds of things you two have been through. However, even if more 'blame each other for causing the end of the world issues' come up, get over it. I do not want to randomly come across one of you one day in the future to find out you two no longer speak because you were too stubborn to get over yourselves. I don't want to see such a relationship be destroyed," I said.
Dean glanced over his shoulder at his little brother who was still chatting with Jane. Well, she was chatting, he was blushing, a fact that made Dean grin.
"I think we'll be okay," Dean said. "No matter what I will never let him go. He's my baby brother, the kid I raised. Nothing will ever change how much I love this kid. He'll have to suffer being stuck with me."
"I've managed so far," Sam said, having finally slipped away from Jane. "Ready to go?"
"Yeah, let's go," Dean said. I was shocked and felt myself blush when Dean leaned down and kissed my cheek. "Thank you for giving me my brother. Have a good life."
I smiled. "I'll do my best if you two do."
"We'll do our best," Sam said. "Come on, Dean. Goodbye, Jasmine. Thank you again."
I watched them walk through the diner to the door. I watched as they talked, as Dean laughed, as Sam shook his head, as Dean shoved Sam's shoulder and then pulled him out of the way of a couple coming through the door. I could see their car from my window. I watched them sit inside and laughed when I saw Dean throw a fry at Sam's head. I smiled softly when the car pulled away and as I turned back to my last breakfast in Joilet, I couldn't help think about the two brothers who had changed my view on life and love, as cheesy as that sounded.
I also couldn't help but think how I would never look at a 1967 Impala the same again.
