"Get up Rose!"

"Huh whaa"

"For goodness sake Rose get up we have to leave in half an hour" Roses eyes flicked open, her sisters were standing over her, glaring like a pair of angry banshees.

"You need to hurry up we are leaving soon" crooned Clarissa "and look at your hair it's a mess!" cackled Elizabeth

"Shut up you old hags, not all of us are as shallow as you" snapped Rose; she was defiantly not a morning person

"Come off it Rose you know we were only joking, honestly I don't know how we are related" laughed Clarissa "anyway we are leaving in a bit so don't take long" she finished as they walked out the door. Rose rolled out of bed and looking in the mirror, her sisters were right her hair was a mess but after Rose had dragged a brush through it she look much more presentable. Grabbing the clothes nearest to her Rose pulled on a pair of faded blue jeans and a purple stripped top. She didn't care much for her appearance and didn't take much time over it but at least she looked better than she did 5 minutes ago.

"Finally" announced Jeremy, Rose's younger brother, as she walked into the kitchen grabbing a slice of toast and wolfing it down. "Can we go now, can we?" asked Jeremy as he bounced up and down in his seat, he was only 18 months younger than Rose but you wouldn't know it, he acted about 3 most of the time.

"Yes, we can go now" said Roses father "come on everyone gather round". The seven of them crowded around an old tin mug, but there was more to it than met the eye. It was a portkey, an everyday object enchanted to take a group of people to a specific location. As soon as the last person touched the mug Rose felt the familiar tugging sensation and in a matter of seconds she landed on the cold hard cobble of Diagon Ally. "I will never get the hang of this" Rose muttered to herself as she stood up brushing dust from her clothes, still it was better than flu powder.

It was Roses mum who took charge "OK, Elizabeth, Clarissa and Peter go with your father to Flourish and Blotts to get your books and pick up Roses while you are there too then head and get anything else still on the list. Jeremy and Rose you come with me and we will go to Madam Malkin's then Olivanders." Splitting up from the rest of her family Rose followed her mother into Madam Malkin's.

It was half an hour before they were done but when they finally walked out everyone else was still in Flourish and Blotts. "OK you go to Olivanders Rose and Jeremy and I will go and get a cauldron and anything else the others haven't got yet" Rose nodded and headed for the wand shop a few doors down.

The bell rang as Rose pushed open the heavy wooden door of Olivanders wand shop, as she walked in the smell of wood and dust filled her head making Rose feel a little dizzy. As she looked up at self upon self of boxes an old but gentle voice from the depth of the shop making her jump "Miss Blakewood, I though you would be along soon. Try this" said Mr Olivander as he appeared from behind a self stacked high with boxes. Rose took the wand he held out to her "Yew, 12 inches, unicorn hair, slightly swishy" She waved the wand gently, red sparks few rather violently from the end of the wand. "No, no I don't think so" Rose carefully put the wand back in the box. "let me see...ah ha. Holly, 13 inches dragon heartstring, firm" after a light swish from Rose the desk in front of her expedited a brief period of being alight before the flames were quelled. "You're a tough one, different from the rest of your family" (how he could tell this without Rose saying a word she didn't know!) "How about this" Mr Olivander held out a wand, it was jet black in colour and its handle was ornately carved "Ebony, 13 and ¾ inches, phoenix tail feather, unbending" he said the final word with a hint of warning in his voice which startled Rose a little, never the less she took the wand in her hand and felt an instant connection. The little room filled with a glowing light which faded slowly "yes, that's the one" said Mr Olivander smiling.

"Let's see, let's see!" demanded Clarissa the moment Rose stepped out of the shop

"OK, OK give me a sec" said Rose as she pulled out her new wand. "Ebony, 13 and ¾ inches, phoenix feather, unbending" said Rose proudly showing her sister her wand to her surprise a strange look came over her face. Clarissa called their father over.

"Dad look at Rose's wand" her father looked down at the wand in his daughters hands and sighed a little.

"You were always different Rose" he said sounding almost exasperated. Rose had a feeling this would be their reaction. All of her siblings had light coloured wand with either a unicorn or dragon core, like her parents. "You're more like your Grandmother than you will ever know" her farther said in a low tone, "her wand was ebony and phoenix feather" at this thought a smile broke over his face "and I am grateful for that, she was a wonderful woman I only wish you and her had gotten to know each other." With this he pulled his young daughter into his arms, embracing her for a second before stepping back and looking into her dark eyes "I know she will be proud of you, whatever you go on to do, even when you were a tiny baby she said you would be different. I think she was right"

The speech seemed very odd to Rose, she knew her farther missed his mother everyday and he would very rarely speak about her. It made her feel proud that she was like her Grandmother, when he did speak about his mother it was always with a great deal of respect he always said she was a great witch, Rose wanted to live up to her father's words and she would do anything to make sure she did.
