2. Last Name
Her last name is Escovedo. She repeats it over and over, letting the soft, slippery syllables roll off her tongue. She doesn't like his last name, or him, for that matter. He smells strange, like chemicals and sick, and his small grey eyes watch her with skin-crawling intensity.
The fact that he paid handsomely to legally adopt her is beside the point. So what if a piece of paper indicates she's now a Hendrick? They both know the truth. He's about as much a father to her as a fox is to a den of chickens.
He'll devour her whole.

Note: I know Azmaria wasn't the focus of Chrono Crusade, but it did bother me that we know so little about her prior to Ricardo Hendrick (sic?) adopting her. I'd imagine that, at very least, she had a Portuguese surname.
