Chapter 2
Blake woke up in a strange room an unfamiliar sound waking him. He groaned inwardly when he remembered what had happened the night before when he'd come home. His mother had almost fainted and definitely went as pail as a ghost when Darwin had brought him home last night. She was already worried when Blake hadn't returned from buying groceries, and seeing him being half-carried, half-dragged into their little apartment apparently confirmed her suspicion that Blake had been up to something dangerous that he shouldn't have been doing. Although she was right Blake didn't want to give her the satisfaction of knowing it and so he tried (but failed) to convince her that on the way back from the grocery store he had slipped on a pebble and fallen over. Of course that didn't explain why he didn't have his groceries with him, or why a large bear-like man who she was positive, had never met her or Blake before was carrying him. After rudely kicking him out she rushed over to Blake and looked him over several times.
After seeing that Blake's knees were bleeding badly from where he had dived at the robber (why hadn't he noticed before?) and that he was shaking and exhausted, she swiftly called an ambulance whom she seemed to have on speed-dial. She had obviously thought that Blake needed stitches, and as usual she had been right. When they got to the Accident and Emergency centre, where yet again the walls had a strange polyester smell to them, even stronger than the last time he'd been there. He'd been hurried to and fro between doctor's nurses and receptionists all doing their best to do there jobs but none were really comforting. When his stitches had finally been given he was hurried to a back corner of the hospital a privacy partition was put around him and he could finally go to bed.
With the memory washing over him he groaned again. Why was his mother so embarrassing? She could've fixed his knee at home that's what most parents did; he'd seen it on TV. It was so frustrating how his mother kept babying him.
Now that he thought about it, wasn't that her voice coming through the partition? He started to listen and was surprised when he heard his grandfathers' voice mixing in with the high pitch of his mother. "What should we do?" he heard his mother say, "There is nothing we can do" his grandfather replied in his deep, husky voice. Blake will have to compete whether he likes it or not I've already submitted his name and everything". His grand father said slowly and clearly. "What about that egg he saved?" his mother persisted "That was his egg and even though he doesn't know it he just put himself in for a wild ride" he sighed. Blake blinked and shook his head. What was his grandfather doing down here? His mother and Grandfather were still talking in hushed whispers, so he cleared his throat. As if almost sensing his worry Blake's mother ripped open the curtain and started smothering him in hugs and kisses. "Get off mum" he muttered
