So Lonely
(Based off the The Police song)
Chloe and Adrien broke up. It happened yesterday, 12:33. Adrien could tell you the exact time because it was the last time he thought anyone loved him. They had gone out to lunch at a quaint cafe near their old high school, and happened to literally run into their old classmate, Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Chloe had rudely shoved her out of the way before calling her some extremely rude words.
Adrien had seen the tears welling up in Marinette's bluebell eyes and snapped. He called Chloe out for all the rude things she'd said and all the times she'd been a jerk to everyone she met. In the heat of the moment he told Chloe they couldn't date if she was really such a cruel person. He remembered exactly how Chloe replied.
"Oh, really? Well I can't keep dating you if you're really such a stupid person. When I ask for an all-new, all-Gucci outfit for my birthday, I mean it! I don't mean get me a romantic card, flowers, or take me out to this stupid cafe! It's no wonder no one has ever loved you!"
Adrien had acted like he didn't care, that the words didn't cut as deep as they did. But it was true. His father certainly didn't love him. His mother died giving birth to him, so she didn't. Who else would? He'd sadly replied to Chloe he had plans and needed to go somewhere, then walked out. He'd stayed inside since, bawling his eyes out. He was just so lonely.
Marinette thought there were people who loved her more than anything, people who couldn't live without her. But then the people who couldn't live without her didn't live at all. Yesterday, Sabine and Tom Dupain-Cheng died from a rare form of cancer. She'd been having lunch at a cafe near her old school when she heard the news. Blindly, she'd ran out, tears in her eyes, bumping into someone on the way out. That person happened to be Chloe. Marinette barely heard what Chloe said to her before running away.
Since then, she'd sat in her old room above the bakery, crying until there were no tears left. She'd briefly emerged for the funeral and pretended she was okay. Now she just sat around and nursed her broken heart. She was just so lonely.
For a while, no one disturbed Adrien while he was in his funk. He'd just lain around, doing nothing, feeling nothing. He constantly thought of his favorite quote: "Life's a game made for everyone, and love is the prize". If he had no love, he was failing pretty miserably at life. But eventually, his friend Nino convinced him to clean himself up and come to his birthday party.
Marinette's friends knew why she was so down. There was no surprise or mystery. But they had no idea how to help her. She'd lost both of her parents in one day. Marinette lay around, doing nothing, feeling nothing. Alya finally forced her to get out of the house and dress up-Marinette was now invited to Alya's boyfriend's birthday party.
Neither Marinette nor Adrien believed in soulmates-until they met each other at Nino's party. After more than a few drinks they found themselves talking, talking, and spilling their hearts out. They became two parts of one whole in just a few minutes. Marinette and Adrien became therapists for one another. They knew the right thing to say to each other. They worked through their grief and troubles with love. Soon they were dating. Then they were engaged, and soon married.
They took over Tom and Sabine's bakery and renamed it. Soon, "So Lonely Sweets" was the most popular bakery in Paris.
