"Clary just listen to me! Please Clary just wait!" Jace yelled desperately behind her, following her out of their apartment building. His arms frantically reaching out trying to get a hold of her to stop her from fleeing. She quickly shook him off and kept her face forward not letting herself look back at him not even once.
Her hard exterior cracked for a second when she heard Jace's desperate cries, giving away at the immense pain she was feeling.
She blinked her eyes rapidly not allowing herself to shed any tears. She'd run out of their apartment, not grabbing a coat or a scarf and now she was freezing New York's weather showing her no mercy, not even today.
Everyone had told her this would happen. That he'd never change his ways, not even for her. She kind of always knew deep inside her he wouldn't change but she still hoped. She always had hope.
She'd held onto that little hope until it was all she had.
And now she had nothing.
Jace was one step behind her sobbing, trying to plead with her. But she was done.
"Clary it's not what it looks like! Please baby just turn around and look at me. Please," He pleaded. His words seemed to infuriate her, all of her sadness dimming down leaving her with pure with hot rage. How dare he say it wasn't what it looked like? She wasn't blind. She knew what was happening when she walked in on them.
She whirled around to face him almost bumping into his broad chest, she pushed him back. It was almost as if she physically craved his touch, his caress. She couldn't resist him no matter how angry she was with him. She needed to keep him a distance away from her, because she knew, and so did he, that she might just end up forgiving him.
"What? Do you think I'm stupid Jace? Don't tell me I misunderstood everything and you and Aline weren't fucking on our bed Jace. You were just messing around wrestling naked right?" With every word her anger faded and the pain seemed to creep into her voice, "You and that bitch were in our bed Jace. Our bed." Saying those words aloud almost reduced her to tears. Almost. "I knew something was going on between you and Aline."
"Everyone told me you'd never change," She felt drained every ounce of happiness, life seemed to be sucked out of her. "That you wouldn't change, not even for me," she said quietly.
"Clary I promise you it isn-" she cut him off mid-sentence.
"Jace. Stop. It is what it is."
Her cold, indifferent tone seemed to enrage him, a fire burning behind those beautiful golden eyes, "It is what it is?" He shouted. "What the fuck is wrong with you Clary? Is that really how much I meant to you? One fucking misunderstanding and your done with me like I meant nothing? Like we meant nothing?"
His tone was furious but Clary knew him well enough to know that it was all an act to cover his desperation, his pain, she knew even now that he loved her and that he'd do anything to keep her by his side.
He grabbed her desperately he knew if he just kissed her she'd change her mind. She'd listen to him and come back home. They'd move on like nothing ever happened and she'd forgive him for all of his mistakes. She'd love him, and he'd love her.
He felt that spark he always felt when his lips brushed hers. He felt her resist for just a second before she melted into him. His warmth spreading all through her body, warming her insides. Her small lips molding around his. Both there bodies moving together, their hearts always being erratically in sync. She let out a small gasp, a sound that Jace loved to entice in her. His arms wrapping around her securely her arms reaching around his neck pressing her body closer to his.
And just as abruptly as the kiss started, it ended.
Jace felt like he'd been hit by a ton of bricks, ripped out of a beautiful dream.
Jace immediately reached out to her, trying to fit her into his warm embrace once again.
"Stop, Jace. Please." Clary whispered her eyes shining with unshed tears.
Jace tugged at his wild hair shutting his eyes, "God dammit Clary. By the angel just fucking listen to me! Your just so stubborn for once in your life just listen to me!" Jace yelled making heads from across the street turn in their direction.
"I am not going to cause a scene in the middle of the sidewalk Jace. Just please, I'm begging you leave me alone. Just let me walk away and try to move on." Clary said quietly.
"You'll always be mine, Clarissa."
At that she stayed silent. She knew he was right, she was ruined for any other man that would ever want her. There would never be anyone for her but Jace.
"And I," he whispered. "Will always be yours."
She shut her eyes not daring to say anything, letting her tears slide freely down her face.
"Goodbye Jace." She said finally.
He stayed quiet looking down at her, his eyes unreadable. His breathing uneven. They stood there watching each other for another heartbeat before Clary walked away.
She was already a few steps away, when she heard his low voice.
"I'm sorry," she heard him whisper quietly.
"I know," she replied silently. Walking away from the love of her life, leaving her heart behind and a broken man in her wake.
