It had been over 3 months since our departure from the solar system. Even though the Great Fox was in warp speed. The distance between our two galaxies was over 5 light years away. I had grown used to the speed of the warp ever since I had joined the Cornerian army. As the commander of the tactical division, it was my job to scout new locations and to jot down new maps that were not on radar. This increased the sensory range of the Cornerians radar systems, they were able to see an attack before the attacker could make their move. That was the future I lived in. However, I didn't know if this new life will lead me down that same path. I sat comfortably within the recreation room, a can of soda native to the Cornerians in my hand. I didn't like this drink at first. But I soon grew to like it over time. The door opened and Fox came in with files under his arm. He sat on the couch next to me and placed the files on the small table before us. Scanning the contents of the files. These were cryptic messages that had been sent to the front lines. The next page showed the server's activity, who was active within it and who was connected to it. Looking over the page I noticed that not much had changed concerning their dealings with data. For the most part, whoever made this documentation wasn't very enthusiastic about his job. The armies were all connected into one server. But there cipher language key was used for every unit. It was no wonder Andross cracked their ciphers. This gave Andross ample data to compute a solution. I explained to Fox my thesis and discussed the weaknesses of their network systems. He quickly got on the same page as we continued discussing improvements to the network systems and cipher keys that could be used.
"And effective cipher is one that is constantly changing. Keeping the code the same will allow the enemy to acquire data which is something we want to avoid." I said.
"I see where you're coming from with this. But even if we are to randomly generation our cipher keys, I doubt that would be enough to stop Andross from gaining intel on us." Fox said.
"That is because we are never truly random. Here, type a set of random numbers into this program." I said.
Fox nodded entering in the number {2,5,6,4,5,1,3,2,8,2,5,6,1,2}. The computer responded showing the most used numbers as well as repetitive combinations.
"2 is your most used number in this random set of numbers. And look here: a duplicate combination of 2,5,6. If a computer were to look for such repetitive combinations, and to focus on your most used numbers. It could very well crack your cipher no matter how many times you change it." I explained.
This was like the good times. Back in my future. Fox and I would have these discussions on a regular basis. He quickly came to trust me and I him. Seeing us sit down like this made me chuckle slights at the nostalgia. Fox caught this and looked at me quizzically.
"Sorry, I remembered the talks we used to have in my future." I said.
"I've been meaning to ask you." Fox said.
His cheeks became flushed as he fiddled with his thumbs, "is Krystal and I….. You know."
A smile appeared on my face. This was adorable, it was as if Fox was a young high schooler. Madly in love with his first crush. No harm in teasing him a bit.
"Oh! What's this? Wondering if Krystal has the hots for you?" I said.
"What! No!" Fox said, "I'm just curious is all."
An obvious uh-huh escaped my lips as he looked my way with annoyance. But it was quickly replaced by a smirk of his own.
"Well what about you and Fay? Heard you're already doing it." Fox said.
I blushed bright red. The hell! He's bring out the big guns this early.
"Well, we haven't really done it yet. But, we have…. Taken the next step I guess." I said.
We looked at each other before bursting into laughter, what a silly conversation this turned out to be. But that's what made me feel at home, to laugh and smile with friends.
The door again opened as Krystal walked in.
"Fox, we have to discuss what we've been holding off for a while now." She said.
An engagement maybe?
"I heard that!" Krystal said.
I coughed looking away as Krystal turned towards me.
"Ok, I'll be right there." Fox said, "Luke, we'll talk about this later."
"Sure! Have fun with your BFF." I said.
"What does that mean?" Fox said.
Big Fat Friend.
Krystal immediately faced me with a scowl. She was incredibly furious. But I could only grin at her agitation. It was fun teasing the both of them. Fox looked at Krystal with confusion, "what does it mean?"
"Fox… Don't go there." Krystal said.
Fox shivered, her tone was not only angry, it was out right feral, "let's go, we have things to discuss." She grabbed his hand pulling him forcefully.
"What's going on!? What did I do!?" Fox said.
His pleas were soon muted as the door closed. Maybe I went too far? I felt a little bad putting Fox into this situation.
The time was now 15:30 as I entered my room, sitting on my bed was Fay as she had her hands folded. She looked at me with disapproval. And I knew what this was about.
"That wasn't very nice what you did." Fay said, "you should know that Krystal is very sensitive of her appearance. You are from the future are you not?"
"It was a little teasing, nothing that could blow out of proportion." I said.
"Still…"
I gave in, seeing her ears fall flat really bugged me. And I didn't want to be the cause of that. I placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Oh alright. I'll apologize tomorrow." I said.
Her ears perked up as she smiled tenderly at me. I loved seeing her ears pointing to the sky. It showed her mental fortitude. Her emotions as if she was happy, content. I reached out stroking her left ear which she slight moaned from the touch. Even though she knew my weak spots. I also knew hers as I brought my fingers stroking behind her ear. She whimpered slightly.
"No fair." She said.
I chuckled, seeing her vulnerable side was a real treat for me to behold. But she didn't allow it to last for much long as she pounced on top of me, she breathed heavily and her cheeks were bright red. Was she in heat!? This isn't good.
"Fay, wait a minute. We..mmmphf." I couldn't finish as my lips were snatched from me. It was true that we were in a relationship in my future. But right now. She hardly knew me. I was holding back as much as I could while she was around me. But that self-restraint was losing the battle as I couldn't keep up the resistance. God I wanted her. So so so so so much. I gave in to the kiss as we laid there. For what seemed like hours. However, she soon came back to her senses as she broke the kiss. We both gasped for air as she quickly got off me.
"I'm so sorry. I don't know what came over me." she said.
Her ears fell flat again. But I patted her head and raised her chin.
"We can call it even. Since I hugged you without warning back on Earth." I said.
She smiled slightly at my proposal and sat next to me laying her head onto my shoulder.
