As Rayne walked into the Common Room she saw everyone staring and ignored it. She knew her hair was a mess and she had to fix it. After all, dinner was in 20 minutes. She grabbed her comb and tried to fix it but to no avail. She looked and saw she had no Sleak-Eazy Hair solution left and groaned. That was on her shopping list. That was if the orphanage let her off the leash for a couple of hours. She knew that she was returning there and it sucked. She had to live in the attic of a Muggle orphanage. It was tiny but it certainly did the trick.

When she walked down to dinner she heard giggles and rolled her eyes. She knew that meant that her attempts at flattening out her hair hadn't worked. She walked down in her outfit to the Great Hall with everyone else and sat in the corner. She liked the lone table since it left her to be with her thoughts. She usually visited Remus after dinner for tea. So she wasn't overly worried but at the moment she was nervous. When he had intercepted her on the way back to the Common Room his voice was different. It was flat.

*Flashback to an hour prior*

As Rayne walked up to her Common Room she saw Remus waiting for her. "Good evening Professor Lupin," she greeted and she had a smile. Remus smiled but it faded quickly. He noticed that other than Sirius, he only smiled around him.

"You're coming up for tea after dinner right?" She nodded and looked confused as to why he asked. "I just wanted to confirm. There's something I need to talk to you about. It'll be rather short. I have tests to grade," he informed.

"I understand Professor," she answered before continuing her walk to the Common Room. She always knew that Remus sometimes cut the visits short. She never complained. At least Professor Lupin let her see him and got her to be a part of his life. But she again never said anything in an attempt to keep things normal.

*End Flashback*

As Rayne finished she washed her face and then walked over to where she knew Remus was and he looked even less cheery than what he did in the halls. "Something wrong Professor Lupin?" He motioned for her to follow and as he found an empty classroom he lead her inside.

"Rayne I think that it would be best if we stopped having tea after dinner. It's not normal what you do. You help me wherever necessary and avoid all the Ravenclaw kids. It's not healthy. I'm not doing this because I want to hurt you, but I think it best you stay away for a while. Unless you have my class or a class related question I don't want you to come near me," he informed. Rayne felt the blow directly in the chest and wanted to scream at him but composed herself regardless. It was beneath her to shout at a professor.

"I understand Professor Lupin," she responded as she knew she was dismissed by the nod he gave her. As she walked up to the Common Room she felt a cloud over her head and glanced up to see it wasn't just her figurative one. There was a real one. "Where are you Peeves? This isn't funny." As Peeves emerged she pointed to the cloud and rolled her eyes. Peeves loved teasing her about the fact that she always seemed to be quiet and solemn. She found it was best that way. Especially when she burned all her bridges with the kids early. She had been reading and basically said on the train that only her books mattered.

When she got back to the dorm she was in, she waved a towel over her head and finally, the cloud disappeared. She laid on her bed and looked at the ceiling. "It's only November. I have a few more months to get through this."

"Rayne?" There was a knock on the door and she identified it as Professor Flitwick. "I'm coming in," he warned. As she sat up on her bed she waited to see what her Head of House needed. "I presume Professor Lupin spoke with you this evening." She nodded and pushed the conversation out of her head. "You know his intentions aren't to harm right?" She nodded and he looked in her eyes. "Yet you don't believe it. You believe that he's shoving you away cause he truly wants you bothered."

"Doesn't matter. He made a fair point and I understand what he's asking of me. It's not that big a deal Professor Flitwick. I'll be fine. I mean I'll have a friend soon enough," she answered and that made Filius a little concerned but also a little relieved. Rayne wasn't as bold or quick to answer as she normally was. But she at least was going to look for a friend her age.

"Good. Know that you do have the Professors on your side. As much as we don't seem it," he answered as he left the room. As Rayne grabbed her clothes she changed rather quickly and went to bed. She wasn't in the mood to deal with anyone else. She needed some sleep.
