For the Music
The Queen would always sing them the same song to sleep; she'll tell them stories of a girl she used to know…the princess of two worlds who sang to make the pain go away.
"But…how could her singing cure it all?" Melitta would ask. The Queen would smile and say,
"It cured me."
But when her brothers and sisters had asked, the Queen had just laughed and laughed.
"It's a secret," she'll tell them and send them to sleep.
Melitta wondered how that girl's song had managed to cure her mother and asked to learn as well.
The Queen would always shake her head and tell her maybe another day…but the strangers were breaking into their home and hurting the people that the Queen protected...a stave couldn't heal them all…
…Kin and Helios and Anzo and Mizuki also wanted to learn. They had been younger then, but now they just stopped asking. They knew the Queen would always say no.
Melitta was just too stubborn for her own good and she always asked,
"Will you teach me the song one of this days, mother?"
The Queen would smile and say,
"…one day…but not today."
Eventually, as the years went on, Melitta just stopped asking. And the Queen was glad, even as she sang and let the tears fall.
