OMG I have no idea what happened to this chapter! I am so sorry I honestly am confused and mortified I posted that... APOLOGIES! Anyways on with the story :)
Sirius Black hated Leah Parker. After all, she was nothing special. Sure, she had stunningly tanned skin, beautiful black wavy hair, gorgeous curves and extremely kissable lips… But her nose was funny. And her eyes were a dull, muddy green, definitely not to be confused with a bright emerald. She wasn't that interesting, either. She only lived in 3 different coastal towns all around the world, including Florida and Puerto de Rico.
Her friend is so much prettier, and she's interesting. Charlotte Rose is funny, sweet, petite and most of all, she was blonde. Sure, she wasn't as smart as Leah, or as funny, or as nice, or as good a kisser…
"Siri! Were you even listening?" And she had this annoying nickname for him. Plus she talks too much.
"Leah, tell him to listen to me!" Leah? He turned around and looked at her, focusing once more. She sighed.
"Black, listen to Charlotte." She said exasperatingly. She was very good at pretending that their little session yesterday never happened. Mind you, so was he. Sirius sighed.
James chuckled to himself. Sirius really needed to think twice before asking someone to Hogsmeade, especially before asking Rose, of all people, Leah's annoying, petite, blonde best friend.`
"Yeah, I'm listening." Sirius shifted his gaze from Leah to Charlotte again, preparing himself for round two.
"Anyway, so, I heard that, apparently, George Michael from Hufflepuff was caught in the broom cupboard with Hillary Derry from Ravenclaw! I mean, how unlikely is that? And-"Charlotte was back to her usual breakfast gossip, spare the little eyelash battering, giggling and winking. Leah glanced down at her watch fretfully, and her eyes widened at the sight that meant she was almost guaranteed a detention.
"Charlotte! We are going to be late!" She cried and jumped up, cramming the rest of her toast in her mouth as she did.
"Oh, okay! Bye, Siri!" She flashed a flirty grin and flounced off to Leah's side.
Despite Leah's cool exterior, inside, she was in emotional turmoil. Stupid Black. Stupid Sirius Black. He was such a dickhead. Leah mentally slapped herself. She didn't care, remember? It meant nothing. It would probably be a good idea to get involved with someone else, Leah mused, It would probably take her mind off him. She instantly hated herself for thinking that. That wouldn't be fair to the other person! She couldn't break someone's heart just to get another off hers.
"Leee-aaahh! Were you even listening to me?" Charlotte looked at her, suddenly whiny.
"Ah, yeah. You were saying…" She trailed off, hoping Charlotte would get the point and keep on talking.
Unfortunately, she didn't.
"Leah. What's wrong?" She looked genuinely concerned, but all of a sudden that made Leah angry.
"You only just noticed?" She said bitterly. It came out sharper than she had planned, but whatever. Like she said before, Leah didn't care.
Charlotte flinched, noticing her tone. That didn't make her back down though.
"Why are you always so goddamned blind all the time, Charlotte? You never notice when I'm sad. You're like a bloody worm!" Leah was yelling and right up in her face.
"What? But-" She spluttered, looking frightened.
"A worm that can't see for the life of them! God, no wonder you're so stupid." She looked into Leah's eyes with utter fear and hurt and betrayal. Her eyes flickered downward, and then back upwards again. Leah looked down as well and was surprised but not as horrified as she probably should have been to see she was holding my wand to her chest. This just spurred her on, and she pressed harder.
"I-I'm sorry!" Charlotte cried, tears welling up in her eyes, "I didn't mean to!"
Leah then realises the enormity of what she was doing. She was threatening an innocent with magic. She was threatening her best friend. She recalled all of the times Charlotte and her had practised transfiguration in the dorm, laughing when they turned things into weird hybrid animals, Leah helping Charlotte with work, rewriting her essays, lending her quills, going to honeydukes, feeding her idiot brother acid pops… And suddenly Leah's anger disappeared, gone with the wind, and instead she felt an incredible sadness, like she had disappointed someone. Someone who meant a lot to her. Charlotte noticed her change of heart and took the chance to break away.
"You're mad!" She cried, backing away, tears running down her face. "You-you're insane!" She tripped over herself trying to run away backwards. Charlotte was afraid of her.
She then stumbled into a run, and Leah could hear her sobs echo down the hallway. The thought of going after her and the words I'm sorry died on her lips. Some of her original anger hadn't completely faded. Charlotte was a bit of an idiot, even though she wasn't as bad as I had made her out to be.
So she turned around and didn't look back.
What Leah understood the paper before her to say;
If I have seven apples and you have five rulers, how many pancakes will fit on the roof? Purple, because aliens don't wear hats.
What it actually says;
If gillyweed counteracts moonshine, what properties must another counteractive ingredient have in order to take its place? It must have at least an aquarium ability, because of what?
Leah groaned and banged her head on the table in frustration. She hated freaking potions, she didn't understand any of it. Who would want an essay on counteractive ingredients anyway? Unfortunately for Leah, Charlotte would know all about these 'counteractive ingredients' because she was Slughorn's special girl. She is the only reason Leah passes potions every year.
Unbeknownst to Leah, Sirius sauntered up to her side from the common room couch, sat beside her and began to read over her shoulder. He didn't get very far though, Leah moved her head up just in time to clip him on the chin.
"Ow!" She said, rubbing the top of her head profusely and swearing colourfully, "What the hell was that for?"
"Well, you see, gillywater has Aquarium abilities, not Firium abilities, so it has nothing at all to do with the moisture level of the ingredient, or what moisture is added." He said with a smirk. How the hell did he know that? It wasn't like he did any work, home or class variety. All he did was smirk, comment rudely and copy other people's hard work.
What she had been thinking must have shown on her face because Sirius' smirk grew wider and he cocked an eyebrow, indicating he was about to say something he found highly amusing.
"Snivellus over there is doing the same paper." He said, leaning back on his chair. If there was one thing you could say about Sirius Black it would be that he was laidback. No, scratch that. He was an arrogant asshole who never did a thing for anyone else's sake and was too caught up in himself and his supposed greatness to-oops.
"See something you like?" He gloated, and Leah realised that she had let her glare slip and she was staring. Suddenly her glare was back full force.
"On this planet? No way." She snarled, snatching her homework up and grabbing her bag from its resting place on the ground, subconsciously checking that her mother's book was secured safely inside. That book meant the world to her, if she lost it her world would fall. It's kind of sad, the things you get attached too. To be fair, it was the only thing of her mother's she had left, and she hated her father. She felt kind of bad for hating him seeing as she couldn't remember why it got that way between them but a voice nagged at her at the back of her mind saying; he caused it, the fire was all his fault, and without him, your mother would still be alive.
She was glad she had the book though, she always felt better when she held it, wrote in it, even when she had it within a rulers length from her she felt safe, whole again.
It's strange how these things work.
Sirius' smug look never faded, although it took on a bemused quality after her obviously unexpected come back. Leah was getting good at those. To tell the truth, she kind of liked the way they could verbally spar for hours on end.
"I was always told I had a kind of otherworldly beauty." Leah rolled her eyes. If only he wasn't so bloody cocky all the time. A non-arrogant Black? She could get used to that.
If only it would ever happen.
"I don't think any planet in this universe would bear to take such an ugly beast." It wasn't my best comeback I'll grant you that, But I think my facial expression finished it off nicely. The cocky bastard smirked and put a hand to his heart, feigning a pout.
"You wound me so."
"Toughen up princess, the rest of the world doesn't give."
"Sure, and the pope is catholic." To this she burst out laughing, bending over and slapping the table. Next time he should probably learn his phrases before opening his mouth, otherwise? He'll end up looking like an idiot, again. When Leah looked up at him, wiping under her eyes for any stray mascara, he just looked confused. Kind of like a stray puppy, who lost his owner in the car park. In the middle of the day with no cars around.
"What's so funny?" His total obliviousness to his mistake somehow made the whole situation even funnier, and she couldn't help but give a chuckle at his cluelessness.
"The pope is Catholic." I managed, before giving in to my laughter again. His face was priceless.
"Remus!" He growled, his face morphing from puzzlement to embarrassment to anger and back again, "That bloody Lupin…" This was more to himself than to Leah, but that was fine with her. As long as he could leave her alone to do her work in peace, she would be okay.
Luckily for her, Sirius did get up and leave, meaning she could get back to her very much attention seeking Potions essay.
With a great, heaving sigh she began to scratch out the part Black corrected her about and added some extra information that she had just found from her textbook.
With a start Leah woke from her pleasant dream about quidditch to a depressing reality of falling asleep on her homework. She checked the time on her watch and began to pack up her things, for it was about one in the morning. She was still sleepy and so engrossed in packing up she completely missed the person standing in front of her until she heard them cough. She paused and looked up at the intruder.
"What do you want, James?" I asked tiredly. Ex-boyfriends can be such assholes.
He leaned in, "You know exactly what I want" He grinned at me, showing all his teeth. I shuddered.
"To piss off? Great! That's exactly what I was thinking!" She faked a bright tone, shoved the rest of her stuff in her bag and shouldered it.
"Actually, that wasn't exactly what I had in mind." He said, stepping in Leah's way again. He was serious this time, and she could tell. It was in his posture and the tone of his voice. With a pang she remembered exactly why and how she came to know him so well. That was another era, a past life, nothing to be brought up now. Unfortunately he just didn't get it. He leaned forward and tried to kiss her, but she twisted away.
"Jamie?" She asked, with mock playfulness. He obviously thought she was just teasing, and his features relaxed. "Yeah?" He drawled.
"Are you having flashbacks to last year's grand final?" Leah asked in her sweetest little girl voice. His eyes darkened in lust, no doubt remembering them being extremely heated in the morning. She could remember everything that happened before and after that in finite detail, including the gentle slope of his nose and erotic curve of his lips as he bent down to-She shook her head. They broke up after that, and everything that happened before that is ancient history.
"No." He said with a smirk, opening his mouth again to complete his thought but Leah didn't let him, cutting him off before he could start. She gave a confused cock of her head and continued, "Then why are you so desperate to score?"
His face was priceless.
She grinned and bounced past him onto the staircase and up to the girls' dorms. She was fully aware that he became a player after she left him to make her jealous, but nothing on this planet could ever bring her back to him now, not after that. She clenched her fists and tried to calm her breathing. Even now, after all this time, she was still mad when it came to him.
a/n. Idk where this chapter was going but this is how it turned out and NO! I DID NOT DIE, DROP OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH OR DROWN IN MY OWN SORROWS! I actually just had a social life for a bit, and tried my hardest to get off of this addicting drug called FANFICTION. I also had no inspiration WHAT SO EVER to write. BUT NOW I know exactly where this story is going and what I intend to do with it so YAY I am back. It's okay if you hate me, I won't blame you. You have a right.
I would hate me too.
