THE FIRST CHAPTER OF THE NEW STORY IS NOW UP.
I'm really sorry, in fact I feel ashamed about what I'm about to do. I HATE breaking a promise and that is what I'm about to do, writing these words is actually very hard.
As of this moment I am discontinuing this fan fic The Legend of Zelda: The Nightmare's End.
There will be a Semi-reboot to this story, some ideas will be kept but a majority will be discarded.
I do this with a heavy heart and guilty conscience. I will however explain why, and give information on why I am doing this.
Though it was always in the back of my mind as my original intent for the story I never really sat down and realized the full ramifications of one of the integral elements of my story.
For the few of you who have actually read it you may have guessed from Neri's words and reaction to Link's reincarnation that his feelings for Link go far beyond that of friendship or mere responsibility.
Yes this story would have had BL in it, one sided mainly on Neri's part, in other words he loves Link and hates the goddesses for using him in the manner that they do. As for Neri himself some of my few readers may have guessed it but he in fact a very jaded and cynical 2800 year old Pipit, who fell in Love with the Link of Skyward Sword.
This was inspired by a Link x Pipit story I read a while back, the story had a nice happy ending but I was wondering what would happen if that was not so? (As a note that means that the Link of SS in my story reciprocated Pipit's feelings and they were in fact a couple)
In the story Pipit was a rather smart individual and that carried over to mine.
Pipit would have realized the significance of Demise's curse and what it would mean for the man he loved and Zelda the girl they both held as their friend.
Thus Pipit resolved to cast a wish on the Triforce himself and use that wish to destroy the sacred relic (I surmised that since the Triforce was at the heart of all of these interlocking destinies that getting rid of it would free all involved and Pipit would have come to this same conclusion)
But by this point the Goddesses had had just about enough of Pipit's meddling in things. They intended Link to fall in love with Zelda (Hylia) and produce a family that could guard the Triforce and bring light to the land. Pipit now stood in the way of that twice.
So Naryu seeing the opportunity just as Pipit was about to lay his hand on the Triforce, poured her power into him, making him her sage and vicar. In the process she transformed him into an immortal, semi-divine being, incapable of using the Triforce (Thus saving it from destruction) and incapable of being with Link a mortal. She then whisked him away to the sacred realm.
With Pipit suddenly gone, Link searched high and low for him but never found him. Thinking that Pipit had abandoned him, the distraught and heartbroken hero ran into the arms of the only one who could comfort him, just as the goddesses planed. Filling the hole in his heart with his best friend he learned to love Zelda and in time married her. He and Zelda went on to be the progenitors of the Hyrulian royal family, as the Goddesses originally intended.
All the why the newly christened Neri, watched from his prison in the heavens, broken hearted and seething with rage.
2600 years then pass and …
At first I thought about bringing a male Sheik in as a new lover and having Neri both at first rival with and then later entrust his will to him. I dismissed that idea and decided that this Link would be straight and fall for Zelda.
I also intended Neri be very antagonistic to the princess throughout the story – even though she wasn't directly responsible for anything she did sort of steal his love.
This middle was never fleshed and the end was basically this:
As Link begins to lose to the Dark Lord Neri having finally had enough with his relative inaction (he would have been mostly and advisor character, casting a spell here or there) uses his powers to change himself back to his original appearance, donning a yellow tunic and sword, his eyes lightening and hair turning back to dark brown etc., revealing him as Pipit to the readers.
He then would help in the final battle
After destroying Ganon once again with Neri (Pipit)'s help Link and Zelda celebrate next to the unified Triforce. The Goddesses then descend and chastise Pipit for his interference once again. Pipit then purposely angers Naryu, tricking her into removing her blessings, he then casts a wish destroying the Triforce and in the process banishing the meddling Goddesses from Hyrule forever, ending the cycle of reincarnation. Then without Naryu to support him, he soon dies with a smile. And they all Lived Happily Ever After….
Yada Yada Yada.
Unfortunately, I just couldn't pull this off. Honestly I'm a chicken, I'm too afraid to write a story like this with the male-male relationships, because I really don't want to get blasted with hate. I'm no bigot and though I am straight myself I find nothing wrong with gay/lesbian individuals ( Love is love as far as I'm concerned, though I do skip the more "interesting" bits of yaoi and yuri stories)
But I'm no fool I understand that a good amount of people do not share my view and would in fact demonize me for it. Furthermore I live in the south, an area not known for its tolerance to any kind of different, let alone sexual orientation.
I'm a newbie author and well at this point I just can't afford to turn off readers.
Also a key part of my story has been basically blown out of the water, the story centers around the Triforce and its ultimate destruction by Pipit. Unfortunately with the release of a Link between Worlds, we all now know what happens when you destroy a Triforce. The world that it supports crumbles and dies. So the main premise of the story is now something that cannot be done.
Thus the discontinuation.
I do have some good news. I have decided to salvage some ideas, mainly the more modern setting, the streamed lined timeline and the method of Gannon's resurrection and use it as part of a "Reboot/Revamp" (It really doesn't have enough in common with this to really be called a reboot).
So stay tuned for the eventual first chapter of LoZ: A Link to the Future – The Deluge War
As a final note, I may when I have more time and a more resilient fan base return to this story and complete it. I give no guarantees with this on and if I do it will be some time (years) from now.
I also swear that I will never again break that promise I gave when I first Joined . From now on every story I start to write will be completed.
With sincerest regrets and begging forgiveness,
